A cordless snow shovel advertised to throw snow up to 20 feet can speed up clearing short paths and driveways, but that maximum is not a guarantee for every snowfall. In Tom’s Guide, editor-in-chief Mike Prospero reported that the Wild Badger cordless model handled a few inches of snow and about 6 inches of powder, then struggled with icy, compacted snow. His account is useful as one person’s experience—not a controlled test or a promise of performance on a construction site.
What does “throws 20 feet” mean?
For the Wild Badger cordless snow shovel discussed by Prospero, 20 feet is the product’s stated maximum throw distance. It does not establish that the machine will send snow that far in every condition. Snow texture, depth, and the way the machine is used can affect the result; the article reports that it threw snow across a street in Prospero’s trial, but that is a single observation, not a repeatable distance test. Tom’s Guide’s account, updated January 26, 2026, also warns that forward-thrown snow can reach passing cars.

How did the Wild Badger perform in the reported trial?
A few inches of mixed snow
Prospero used the shovel on a driveway about 30 feet by 8 feet and a sidewalk. He reported clearing the driveway in about 15 minutes during a snowfall of roughly 2 to 3 inches, including fairly wet snow near the curb. A thin sheen remained, though he considered the surface clear enough to drive on. That result suggests a possible fit for quick clearing of modest accumulation, not a guarantee of a bare or uniformly cleared surface.

Powder versus compacted snow
During Winter Storm Fern, Prospero said the shovel handled about 6 inches of light, powdery snow, with faster battery drain. The next morning, it had trouble with another 2 to 3 inches of icier, compacted snow, so he switched to a conventional shovel. His experience does not establish dependable performance in deep, icy, or compacted snow.

Battery and handle observations
The article describes the battery as 40Ah and says it was advertised for about 40 minutes. In Prospero’s use, after about 20 minutes the charge indicator had dropped from four bars to two. This is one reported trial, not a controlled runtime measurement. He found the handle comfortable at his height of six feet; the same account notes that some online reviewers considered it short for taller users.
What are the Wild Badger’s stated specifications?
Tom’s Guide identifies the product as the Wild Badger Cordless Snow Shovel but does not give an exact model number. The figures below are how the article describes the product, not independent measurements:

What matters besides throw distance?
Throw distance is only one part of choosing a snow shovel. Check whether the machine matches the area and snow you actually need to clear, and whether its direction of discharge is safe for the site. The Wild Badger in Prospero’s account throws forward and has no directional fins to steer snow to the side. That can make placement important near roads, vehicles, entrances, and neighboring work areas.

For a small, defined area—such as a short access path or sidewalk cleared after a light snowfall—a powered shovel may reduce the effort of moving snow by hand. The Wild Badger account does not demonstrate performance on large commercial areas, sustained heavy snowfall, or icy, compacted accumulations. For a construction site, plan around the actual route, snow conditions, safe discharge direction, and equipment appropriate to the area; do not treat a consumer shovel’s maximum throw or theoretical intake depth as a jobsite capacity rating.
