How much does a concrete driveway cost in 2026? Published estimates vary: Angi reports an average project cost of $6,400 and a range of $8–$20 per square foot, while Concrete Network estimates $5–$8 per square foot for plain gray concrete and $8–$21 for decorative driveways. Treat these as broad guides, not a guaranteed price; your measured area, location, site conditions, and project scope determine the local quote.
For a useful comparison, ask contractors to price the same measured area and clearly list removal, preparation, thickness, reinforcement, finish, drainage, access, permits, and cleanup. A square-foot estimate alone does not establish what work is included.
Published Concrete Driveway Cost Estimates
These estimates come from different publishers and are not directly interchangeable. Angi gives a broad overall range, while Concrete Network separates plain gray and decorative finishes.
| Source and year | Published estimate | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Angi, 2026 | $6,400 average project cost; $8–$20 per square foot | Broad estimates; project size and location affect the result. |
| Concrete Network, 2026 | $5–$8 per square foot for plain gray; $8–$21 for decorative | Keep the finish distinction attached to the figures. |
| Western Concrete, 2026 | $10–$20 per square foot installed | Regional contractor estimate for Southern California, not a national benchmark. |
Angi also reports a broad project-cost range of $1,600 to $32,000. Concrete Network reports national project totals of $3,200 to $13,000. These different ranges reflect varying project sizes and estimate methods; do not average them into a single promised price.

Estimate Your Driveway Area
Area is a key input in per-square-foot estimates. Measure the driveway’s length and width, then multiply to estimate the area. For an irregular shape, divide it into simpler sections and add their areas. This is a planning estimate, not a contractor quote or an assessment of the ground beneath the driveway.
A measuring wheel can help record approximate dimensions. It cannot determine subsurface conditions, required thickness, or the full project scope.
What Changes the Price?
Size and layout
A larger area generally means more material, while curves and complex forms can add work. Ask bidders to use the same measured area and explain how they handle unusual shapes.

Thickness and intended loads
Concrete Network says a driveway should be at least four inches thick and may need more to support heavy vehicles or above-average traffic. That is general guidance, not a design specification for every property. Ask a qualified local contractor to assess the driveway’s intended loads, site conditions, and applicable requirements.

Finish
Concrete Network’s estimates distinguish plain gray concrete from more expensive decorative work. Western Concrete says broom finish is generally less costly than decorative borders or specialty finishes. Ask what finish is included and whether the quote covers any decorative details.
Existing surface and disposal
Replacing an existing driveway may require tear-out and disposal. Concrete Network estimates about $1 per square foot for tear-out and removal, with disposal potentially extra. Other demolition estimates vary with slab thickness, reinforcement, and assumptions. Ask bidders to state exactly what removal and disposal include rather than treating one estimate as universal.

- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Drying within 1 hour at 75°F (24°C), this waterproofer covers up to 200 sq.ft./gallon, depending on surface porosity. Apply 2 flood coats with a handheld pump sprayer. Clean-up is also easy; simply wash with water and soap once done.
- EFFECTIVE FORMULATION: Made in the USA, our water-based silane/siloxane concrete sealer offers up to 5 years of protection. Free from strong odors and VOCs, the water repellent is safe for people, pets, and plants.
Ground, drainage, and access
Slope, grading, base preparation, restricted access, pumping, or hand transport can change the work required. These factors are especially site-specific; have the contractor inspect the property and identify any additional work in writing.
Location and permits
Prices vary by market. For example, Western Concrete’s $10–$20-per-square-foot estimate applies to Southern California, not the whole country. If work touches a driveway apron or public right-of-way, check with the relevant local agency about permits and requirements.
How to Compare Contractor Estimates
Request written estimates based on the same measured area and scope. Compare inclusions and specifications, not just the headline total.

- CLEAR PROTECTION FOR CONCRETE: This clear penetrating concrete sealer provides invisible, non-glossy protection for driveways, sidewalks, and patios without changing color or appearance.
- WATER REPELLENT TECHNOLOGY: Advanced silane siloxane concrete sealer bonds with surfaces to repel water, causing moisture to bead and roll off while allowing concrete to breathe naturally.
- DURABLE OUTDOOR DEFENSE: Protect your driveway from pitting, cracking, ice melt salts, chloride ions, freeze-thaw cycles, and efflorescence stains with this long-lasting concrete sealant.
- EASY APPLICATION AND COVERAGE: Clean concrete thoroughly before use. Apply with a low-pressure garden sprayer for even coverage. One gallon covers 90-150 sq. ft. for reliable outdoor sealing.
- BREATHABLE PENETRATING FORMULA: This siloxane concrete sealer penetrates deep into pores, blocking water infiltration without forming a surface film, keeping your driveway protected and breathable.
- Record the approximate driveway dimensions and share them with each bidder.
- Ask whether demolition, hauling, and disposal are included, and what assumptions apply.
- Ask for the planned excavation, grading, and base-preparation scope.
- Have the quote state slab thickness, concrete specification, and reinforcement, if included.
- Confirm the finish, joints, and any drainage work.
- Ask whether access equipment, pumping, permits, inspections, and cleanup are included.
- Have a qualified local contractor explain any project-specific requirements before comparing totals.
A public procurement example illustrates why specifications matter: the City of Commerce, Georgia’s 2026 bid sheet lists different prices by thickness, strength, and reinforcement. Those are listed prices for a specific municipal procurement, not a national homeowner benchmark or proof that every scope item is included.
Concrete Compared with Asphalt
Concrete Network estimates initial costs of $5–$8 per square foot for plain gray concrete and $3–$6 for asphalt. These are broad guide estimates, not a prediction for your property. When comparing materials, consider initial installed cost, finish, expected maintenance, and suitability for the site rather than treating a general estimate as a lifetime-cost guarantee.
