Launched September 23, 2026, the pass offers a monthly gift-card drawing and milestone rewards, and is available through September 30, 2027. Experience Columbus announced the program as a way to encourage people to explore local businesses during the work.
How the Downtown Discovery Pass works
The pass is free. The Columbus Dispatch reported that it is sent by text and email, rather than requiring a dedicated app, and that check-ins use a phoneโs GPS or location services. Signup and technical details may change, so check the official pass page for current instructions.
Check-ins and rewards
Checking in at participating businesses builds progress toward rewards. Experience Columbus says users with at least one check-in during a month qualify for that monthโs random drawing for a $50 gift card to a participating Gay Street business. The announced milestone rewards are:
- Eight check-ins: a $25 gift card and an exclusive 11-by-17-inch art print featuring a downtown watercolor by local artist Fiona Miller.
- Twelve check-ins: an exclusive tote bag featuring the illustration.
Rewards are redeemed at the Columbus Welcome Center, 625 N. High St., according to the launch announcement.

Which businesses are participating?
The program covers 20 businesses grouped by organizers into dining; bars, wine and cocktails; galleries and art; retail and shopping; entertainment and experiences; and wellness and beauty. Examples listed in the announcement include Aracri Pizzeria, Barroluco Argentine Comfort Food, Chouette, Hankโs Low Country Seafood, The Ringside Cafe, Three Bites Bakery, Accent Wine, Chaos Contemporary Craft, Hammond Harkins Galleries, The Peanut Shoppe, Magic Escape Room, and Le Masseur & Co.
Participation can change. Consult the official participating-business list before planning a route or relying on a particular venue for a check-in.

Experience Columbus describes the Capital Line as a two-mile pedestrian and bicycle pathway connecting downtown neighborhoods, attractions and green spaces. The organization says businesses remain open and accessible during construction, with blocks reopening as work is completed; the Gay Street phase is scheduled to finish by the end of 2027. These are project-organizer statements, and the schedule or access conditions may change. Check current Capital Line project notices and venue information before setting out.
Downtown Columbus, Inc. President Amy Taylor said, โSmall, local businesses are at the heart of Downtown, and supporting them is especially important as we move through the construction phase of the Capital Line.โ The pass is intended to direct attention to those businesses; the available sources do not establish that it has increased foot traffic or sales.
