Drivers around Joplin should plan for a full Route 43 closure in Seneca on October 12–14, weekday daytime work on Zora Street, and lane impacts on Route 66 and Schifferdecker Avenue. MoDOT’s October 6 update also postpones the planned St. Louis Avenue closure to October 21. Schedules can change; check the MoDOT Traveler Information Map before setting out.

Route 43 in Seneca: full closure October 12–14
Missouri Route 43, also called Cherokee Avenue, is scheduled to close at the railroad crossing between Oneida Street and Newton County Route K (Frisco Street) from October 12 through October 14, around the clock. Local destinations on either side are to remain accessible, but drivers cannot travel through the crossing. The notice says no signed detour is planned, so choose a route around the closure before approaching the crossing. Newstalk KZRG’s October 5 report.
Zora Street: weekday daytime work
Spire is relocating and upgrading gas lines on Zora Street between Range Line Road and Duquesne Road. The weekday daytime closure was scheduled to begin October 5 and was expected to last about four weeks. Through traffic will not be able to pass through the work zone, although local traffic is to be accommodated. Route 66 and Seventh Street: multiple work areas
Construction affects several locations along Seventh Street (Route 66). Florida Avenue remains closed on both sides of Seventh Street, and pavement replacement is underway between McConnell and Ozark avenues. Nighttime sanitary sewer work was planned at Kentucky Avenue, with intermittent daytime traffic shifts between Pennsylvania and Kentucky avenues. At least one lane in each direction on Seventh Street is expected to remain open, and business access is to be maintained during operating hours. Conditions may vary by work area and time of day. MoDOT’s live work-zone listing reports Route 66 construction in Jasper County through December 1, 2027. That listing is distinct from the project-wide contract completion date: MoDOT’s October 6 project notice gives December 1, 2028, and lists a construction cost of $61.6 million for the Route 66 Traffic & Safety Improvements project. St. Louis Avenue: closure postponed to October 21
Use MoDOT’s October 6 schedule: the closure north of Route 66 was postponed from the previously announced October 7 start to Wednesday, October 21, for up to three weeks, pending completion of signal work at Florida Avenue. Business access north of Route 66 is to be maintained during business hours. No signed detour is planned; signs and message boards will provide alerts. On Jasper County Route P (Schifferdecker Avenue), lane closures and traffic shifts are scheduled between Perkins Street and Route 66 from October 5 through October 30 for sidewalk and access upgrades. Flaggers may direct traffic, and MoDOT recommends using alternate routes; no signed detour is planned. Where driveway concrete is replaced in halves, temporary gravel driveways are to be provided. Check conditions before you leave
Use the MoDOT Traveler Information Map for current closures and traffic impacts. A dated project notice describes a planned schedule, not guaranteed live conditions; weather, work progress and scheduling conflicts can change the timing. Allow for alternate routing where through traffic is blocked, and follow posted signs and flagger directions.
