Hue SpatialAware maps where lights sit in a room and adapts selected scenes to that layout, while Hue Secure products gain broader Apple Home support. The key requirement for SpatialAware is the Hue Bridge Pro—not a new set of lamps or a subscription.
CES 2026’s Philips Hue announcements were less about new bulbs than about making existing Hue hardware smarter. The headline feature, Hue SpatialAware, uses a room scan to understand where lights are positioned and then distributes colors across selected scenes according to that layout. It is not generative AI, does not require new lamps, and is available only through the Hue Bridge Pro.

Signify also announced expanded Apple Home support for Hue Secure products, including cameras, a video doorbell, and contact sensors. Philips Hue’s current U.S. documentation now lists Apple Home compatibility for the Hue Secure wired camera. However, that should not be read as confirmation that every Hue security product supports every Apple Home feature, including HomeKit Secure Video.

Hue SpatialAware: scenes that understand the room
Traditional Hue scenes assign colors across the lights in a room without necessarily accounting for each light’s physical location. SpatialAware adds that missing context. The Hue app uses augmented-reality room scanning to build a spatial model of the room and the lights in it. Hue’s software can then distribute colors in a more directional way.

For example, a sunset scene might place warmer yellow tones on lights at one side of a room and deeper, darker colors on lights at the other side. The intended result is a scene that follows the room’s arrangement instead of treating every light as an interchangeable point.
That distinction matters: SpatialAware does not generate new lighting effects with artificial intelligence. Philips Hue says its design and research teams remaster the scenes, while algorithms adapt those scenes to the positions recorded during the room scan. The feature is therefore best understood as spatial optimization, not an AI scene generator.
What is required to use SpatialAware?
The central requirement is the Hue Bridge Pro. SpatialAware is exclusive to that hub and is not available through the standard Hue Bridge. It also requires the latest relevant Hue app and Bridge Pro software.
If you already own compatible color-capable Hue lights, you generally do not need to replace them. The Bridge Pro and updated software provide the SpatialAware capability. You also do not need a subscription or a separate room-mapping device.
Readers who want this feature can consider a Hue Bridge Pro, but the hub alone does not provide lights or guarantee that every scene will support SpatialAware. Check the current product listing and regional compatibility information before buying.
How the room scan works
- Update the Hue app and Bridge Pro software.
- Open the room’s settings in the Hue app and begin the SpatialAware room scan.
- Use a compatible iPhone, iPad, or other supported phone or tablet camera to identify the lights or, in some cases, the light effect on a wall.
- Complete the alignment process for each light in the room.
- Save the map and apply a SpatialAware-ready scene.
Hue says a room with approximately 10 lights typically takes less than a minute to scan. Devices with LiDAR use a simpler alignment process. Devices without LiDAR need a second viewing angle to help establish each light’s position.
How to get a better spatial map
- Turn on all lights in the room before mapping.
- Make sure the lights are reachable by the Hue system during setup.
- Use color-capable lights where possible.
- Include ceiling or pendant lights and lights mounted at different heights when they are part of the room.
- Rescan the room after adding, removing, or moving a light.
A scan is only as accurate as the arrangement it records. Moving a floor lamp or changing a fixture’s location without updating the map can make the color distribution less representative of the room. If you do not scan a room, Hue continues using the classic, non-spatial distribution.

Which Hue scenes support SpatialAware?
SpatialAware is not a universal effect for every Hue scene. At launch, Philips Hue described approximately half of the remastered Scene Gallery scenes as optimized for the feature, with more expected over time.
The early emphasis was on nature-inspired scenes such as:
- Lake Mist
- Mountain Breeze
- Savanna Sunset
- Lake Placid
The Hue app identifies compatible scenes. Users can select the spatially optimized version, return to the classic version, or continue using original non-spatial scenes. SpatialAware scenes are stored on the Bridge Pro, so they can still be activated through the Hue app, Hue accessories, automations, voice assistants, widgets, and third-party apps.
When did SpatialAware launch?
Signify announced Hue SpatialAware on January 7, 2026, and initially targeted spring 2026 availability. Philips Hue support documentation crawled in August 2026 describes the feature as available after updating the app and Bridge Pro and completing the in-app scan.
The safest interpretation is that SpatialAware has launched, while availability can still depend on the user’s market, app version, Bridge Pro software, and account or device rollout. It should no longer be described simply as a CES concept or unreleased feature.
Apple Home support comes to Hue Secure
The second major CES announcement expanded Apple Home support to Philips Hue’s security range. The announcement covered the Hue Secure camera, Hue Secure video doorbell, and Hue contact sensors.
The reported use cases included:
- Live camera video in picture-in-picture mode on Apple TV.
- Real-time alerts through the Apple Home app.
- More integration between Hue Secure devices and the wider Hue lighting system.
Signify initially placed the Apple Home rollout in the first quarter of 2026. Current U.S. product documentation for the Hue Secure wired camera lists Apple Home among its third-party compatibility options, alongside platforms such as Google Home, Alexa, IFTTT, Matter, Samsung SmartThings, and Sonos.

The wired camera is listed as a 1080p security camera with end-to-end encryption, motion detection, night vision, two-way talk, and a 141.2-degree field of view. Readers shopping specifically for Apple Home security can consider the Hue Secure wired camera, but should verify the exact model, country, supported software, and current retailer listing before purchase.

Is this full HomeKit Secure Video support?
Not necessarily. “HomeKit” is often used informally to describe Apple’s smart-home platform, and the CES coverage supports Apple Home control, alerts, and Apple TV live-video scenarios. It does not establish that every Hue Secure device supports Apple’s full HomeKit Secure Video recording and storage feature set.
Before buying, check the current Philips Hue documentation for the specific camera or sensor and look for explicit confirmation of the Apple Home function you need. Apple Home compatibility, Apple Home notifications, Apple TV live viewing, and HomeKit Secure Video are not interchangeable claims.
How the Hue Secure products fit together
Philips Hue presents Hue Secure as a connected security system rather than a single camera product. The range includes wired and battery cameras, a wired video doorbell, contact sensors, and chimes. These devices can work with Hue lighting—for example, using security events as part of a broader home automation—but their power requirements and capabilities differ.
A Hue Secure video doorbell may suit an entryway where a camera and doorbell are needed together, while the wired camera is more appropriate where continuous wired power is available. Battery cameras offer a different installation trade-off. A Hue Secure contact sensor is aimed at doors, windows, or other openings and can complement rather than replace a camera.
When comparing the products, check live view, night vision, two-way talk, motion alerts, power source, field of view, chime requirements, regional availability, and the exact Apple Home functions supported by that model.

These features make the Hue ecosystem more flexible, but they do not change the main hardware decision from CES: Bridge Pro is the gateway to SpatialAware, while Hue Secure products are the focus of the Apple Home expansion.

Bridge Pro makes sense if:
- You already have several compatible color Hue lights and want scenes to reflect their positions.
- You are interested in SpatialAware or other Bridge Pro capabilities such as MotionAware.
- You are planning a larger Hue installation and need the Bridge Pro’s capacity or multi-Bridge migration features.
You may want to wait or keep your current setup if:
- You mainly use basic white-light scenes.
- Your favorite scenes are not among the SpatialAware-ready selections.
- You do not want to rescan rooms after moving fixtures.
- You expect full HomeKit Secure Video and have not confirmed that support for your chosen Hue Secure model.
Signify launched the Bridge Pro in September 2025. Its software release notes also document support for migrating multiple existing Bridges, subject to the Bridge Pro’s capacity. That may be useful for established Hue installations, but migration compatibility and capacity should be checked against the current release notes before changing a working system.

A practical SpatialAware installation can involve three separate decisions:
- Hub: Buy or upgrade to a Hue Bridge Pro.
- Lights: Keep compatible color-capable Hue lights if you already own them; otherwise choose Philips Hue color smart lights for scenes that can express multiple colors.
- Mobile device: Use a compatible phone or tablet camera for the room scan. LiDAR can simplify alignment, but it is not presented as a requirement.
Do not assume that buying new bulbs alone adds SpatialAware. The Bridge Pro is the required part, and the scene catalog remains limited to approximately half of the remastered scenes as documented at the time of the current support information.
Bottom line
Philips Hue’s most meaningful CES 2026 change is software-enabled spatial lighting: Hue SpatialAware maps a room and adapts selected scenes to the physical arrangement of its lights. It requires a Hue Bridge Pro, updated software, and a short camera-based scan, but not a subscription or a new set of lamps.
The Apple Home announcement is a separate but useful expansion of Hue Secure. Cameras, a video doorbell, and contact sensors are moving further into Apple’s smart-home ecosystem, with live-video and alert use cases highlighted. Current documentation confirms Apple Home compatibility for at least the U.S. Hue Secure wired camera, but buyers should verify model-specific support and should not assume full HomeKit Secure Video compatibility.
