Yes—but normally you attach the soundbar to the TV wall-mount hardware, not directly to the television. A compatible soundbar bracket can often mount behind or below the TV and move with it without requiring new wall holes. The alternative is a separate wall bracket, or a manufacturer-specific bracket supplied for a particular TV-and-soundbar combination.
Never drill into the TV, hang a soundbar from its bezel, or assume that every “universal” bracket fits every TV mount. The TV, wall mount, bracket, soundbar, cables, and accessories must be compatible and remain within the relevant load ratings.

The three ways to mount a soundbar
1. Attach it to the existing TV wall mount
A TV-mount soundbar bracket uses the existing mount’s interface hardware or vertical mounting rails. The soundbar usually sits below the screen and moves with a tilting or full-motion TV mount.

For example, SANUS says its SA405 attaches to many TV wall mounts and does not require additional wall drilling. “Many” or “most” does not mean every mount, however; the exact mount design and manual control.

2. Mount the soundbar separately to the wall
A dedicated wall bracket gives the soundbar its own anchors and load path. This is usually the better choice when the TV mount is incompatible, the soundbar is heavy or deep, the TV is flush to the wall, or the soundbar must remain stationary while the TV swivels.
Use suitable studs or wall anchors rated for the bracket and wall construction. Do not choose drywall anchors solely because they are convenient. Sonos likewise advises following the product-specific mounting guide and avoiding hidden wiring, heat, steam, and dripping water when wall-mounting its products; see its wall-mounting guidance.
3. Use a manufacturer-specific bracket
Some soundbars include wall hardware, while certain TV-and-soundbar systems have dedicated mounting solutions. These may be preferable when the soundbar has unusual mounting points, sensors, controls, or upward- or side-firing speakers. Use the manual for the exact model rather than assuming that a bracket designed for one product in a brand’s range fits another.

Can your existing TV mount support a soundbar bracket?
Check these points before buying hardware:
- Combined weight: Add the TV, soundbar, bracket, power supply, and other accessories. The TV wall mount must support the total, not just the television. SANUS explicitly requires the combined assembly to remain within its stated limit.
- Bracket interface: Confirm that the existing mount has accessible rails, holes, or slots for the soundbar bracket. VESA describes the TV’s rear hole pattern; it does not guarantee that an accessory fits the wall-mount interface.
- Integrated spacers and slot size: Some brackets are incompatible with mounts that have built-in spacers or oversized mounting slots. For example, the SANUS MFSBM1 manual specifies restrictions including integrated spacers and holes or slots larger than 11 mm (0.43 in).
- Screws and spacers: Match the TV manufacturer’s screw size and use the supplied washers and spacers where required. Screws must engage securely without being so long that they can contact internal components.
- Movement and clearance: Measure the soundbar’s height and depth. Check clearance from the wall, furniture, mantel, and floor throughout the TV’s complete tilt, swivel, and extension range.
- Acoustic clearance: Do not obstruct front, side, or upward-firing drivers. Dolby Atmos performance depends on the soundbar’s specified orientation and unobstructed sound path.
- Cable movement: Leave slack for a full-motion mount and prevent HDMI, optical, and power cables from being pinched or pulled.
- Sensors: Ensure the soundbar does not block the TV’s infrared receiver, camera, microphone, status light, or lower display area. Sonos documents product-specific IR-sensor locations in its sensor guidance.
How to attach a soundbar to a mounted TV
- Identify the hardware. Find the model number of the TV wall mount and download its manual. Also obtain the soundbar and bracket instructions.
- Record the measurements. Note the TV’s VESA pattern and screw size, the soundbar’s complete weight, and the bar’s width, height, depth, and mounting points.
- Confirm the load rating. Verify that both the TV mount and soundbar bracket can support the complete installed assembly. Product limits are model-specific: one SANUS A405 listing gives a 15-pound soundbar rating, while the older WSSBM1 manual lists 7 pounds for that particular product. Do not generalize either figure to all SANUS brackets.
- Choose the mounting method. Use a TV-mount-attached bracket when compatibility and clearance are confirmed. Choose a wall bracket for heavy, deep, flush-mount, or otherwise incompatible installations.
- Dry-fit the position. Place the soundbar below the screen and check the screen, wall, furniture, sensor, and speaker clearances. Slowly test the TV’s full range of movement before final tightening.
- Install approved hardware only. Follow the bracket instructions for replacing or sharing TV-mount screws. Use the specified spacers for a recessed or curved TV back. Do not improvise with random washers or excessively long screws.
- Attach and level the soundbar. Make sure the bar is fully supported and cannot slide forward. A soundbar that sags is not safe to leave in service.
- Route the cables. Secure cables with enough slack for movement and keep them away from hinges and pinch points.
- Test everything. Check power, audio, volume control, remote operation, audio delay, and the TV’s complete movement range.
Physical mounting and audio connection are separate
A securely mounted soundbar can still produce no sound if the audio connection or TV settings are wrong. HDMI ARC or eARC is generally the preferred connection when supported. Optical audio can be a fallback, but features vary by product and TV.
For example, Sonos Arc’s normal setup uses the TV’s HDMI ARC or eARC connection, and lossless Dolby TrueHD Atmos requires eARC according to Sonos’s Arc setup instructions and Atmos guidance. Sonos Beam can also use optical with the appropriate adapter, but Sonos notes that HDMI-CEC-based TV control and voice-control functions are unavailable through optical; see the Beam setup guide.
Check the TV model, soundbar model, ARC versus eARC support, source device, supported codecs, and TV audio-output settings. Do not assume that one soundbar’s connection features apply to another.

When a separate wall mount is the better option
- The existing TV mount has no compatible accessory interface.
- The soundbar is heavy, deep, or far forward of the TV.
- The TV is installed with a very slim or flush wall mount.
- You want the soundbar fixed while the TV swivels.
- The manufacturer requires a dedicated bracket.
- Adding the soundbar would put the TV mount near or over its load limit.
The trade-off is that a separate wall mount requires new holes and careful anchoring. It may also leave the TV and soundbar moving independently, so measure their alignment and cable paths before drilling.
Situations requiring extra care
Full-motion mounts
Attaching the soundbar to the TV can keep both aligned, but the assembly becomes heavier and more front-loaded when extended. Check for wall or furniture collisions, cable snags, and sagging. Move the completed assembly slowly through its range before securing cable management.
Tilting mounts
The added bar can change the assembly’s balance or interfere with the tilt mechanism. Confirm that the TV locks at the intended angle and that the soundbar remains level without touching the wall or furniture.

Ultra-slim TVs and flush mounts
A TV-mount bracket can add enough depth to defeat a flush installation or prevent the TV from seating correctly. Do not force a bracket into insufficient space. A low-profile manufacturer-specific or separate wall solution may be safer.
Upward-firing Dolby Atmos bars
Do not place an upward-firing soundbar inside a tight shelf or beneath an obstruction. Follow the soundbar’s clearance and orientation instructions; mounting hardware alone does not guarantee the intended sound performance.
Above-TV mounting
Above-TV placement is not universally supported. Controls, displays, sensors, and speaker orientation may assume below-TV placement. Confirm that the exact soundbar permits the position and follow its sensor and orientation guidance.

Fireplaces
Do not treat the space above a fireplace as ordinary wall space. Heat, mantel clearance, wiring, and local installation requirements must be assessed using both the TV and soundbar manufacturers’ guidance.
Wireless subwoofers
Normally, only the main soundbar is mounted. Keep the wireless subwoofer on a stable floor or cabinet unless its manufacturer specifically supplies hardware for wall or TV-mount attachment.

- Do not drill into the television’s rear casing, screen, or bezel.
- Do not hang the soundbar from the TV bezel or adhesive strips.
- Do not share TV-mount screws without confirming the bracket’s instructions.
- Do not use screws that are too long or have inadequate thread engagement.
- Do not ignore integrated spacers, oversized slots, or a mount near its capacity.
- Do not mount over a fireplace without checking heat and clearance requirements.
- Do not assume a bracket’s advertised weight limit applies to a different model.
