They were specialized machines that vacuum floors, detect spills, clean pools, cross thresholds and—sometimes—attempt stairs. Household robots with arms made striking demonstrations, but most remain prototypes, development projects or early products rather than dependable domestic appliances.
CES 2026 took place in Las Vegas from January 6–9, 2026. Its robotics story was less about one breakthrough machine than about robots moving from single-purpose appliances toward broader physical AI. The important question is not whether a robot looks futuristic, but whether it can complete useful work repeatedly, safely and without human rescue.

What counts as a futuristic robot?
“Robot” covered several very different categories at CES:
Recommended Free Tools
- Autonomous household robots: vacuums, mops, pool cleaners, window cleaners and lawn machines.
- Manipulation robots: machines with arms and hands that can pick up, fold, load, cook or transfer objects.
- Humanoid or humanoid-adjacent robots: bipedal machines and wheeled robots with human-like torsos, arms and hands.
- Commercial and industrial robots: machines designed for factories, warehouses, hotels, restaurants, retail and inspection.
- Concepts and prototypes: impressive demonstrations without confirmed retail availability.
A robotic pet, animated display or dancing machine may be entertaining, but it should not be treated as equivalent to a robot that autonomously performs useful work.

The robots that could change everyday cleaning
Samsung Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra: smarter perception, not a butler
Status: announced product; current U.S. availability and price should be checked before purchase.
Samsung’s Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra represents the most immediately understandable kind of progress: a conventional robot vacuum with better perception. Samsung says it can recognize people, cats, dogs, cables, rugs and liquids, then let owners configure whether the robot should clean or avoid a detected spill.
The robot uses a Qualcomm Dragonwing processor and Samsung’s Easy Pass Wheel technology, which the company says can cross thresholds up to 2.4 inches. That figure is a stated maximum, not a guarantee for every threshold, material or approach angle.

Samsung also described camera-based monitoring that can notify owners about pets and possible activity while they are away. Its active stereo 3D sensor is claimed to recognize liquids including coffee, juice and transparent liquids such as water.
What it actually improves: fewer rescues caused by cables, rugs, pet accidents, thresholds and spills.
What it does not do: it does not climb a full staircase, pick up objects or perform general household chores. Object recognition is not perfect, and liquid detection introduces questions around pet waste, cleaning chemicals, electrical hazards and hygiene.
Camera-equipped robots also require a privacy review. Buyers should check whether processing is local or cloud-based, whether cameras can be disabled, how long maps and images are retained and who can access the account.
Samsung’s announcement and its CES first-look details describe the claimed capabilities.

Roborock’s Saros Rover attracted attention because it was designed to climb stairs—the most obvious physical limitation of ordinary robot vacuums. A robot that could move between floors would remove one of the biggest reasons owners still need to carry a machine manually.
But “climbs stairs” is only the beginning of the question. A useful product would need to cope with different riser heights, narrow treads, carpet, wood, tile, wet surfaces, open sides, landings, people and furniture. It would need to descend safely, reverse after a failed climb and avoid falling during a power or sensor problem.
It also matters whether Saros Rover cleans stair treads or merely transports itself between floors, whether it carries water, whether it can mop afterward and whether it works on open-riser, spiral or unusually deep stairs. The CES demonstration did not establish that it could clean every staircase in an ordinary home.
Ecovacs: from robot vacuum to home-maintenance ecosystem
Status: product launches and showcases; availability varies by model and market.
Ecovacs showed the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone and T90, alongside robotic lawn, window-cleaning and pool-cleaning products. Reported features included the OSMO Roller 3.0 system and a roller approximately 26 centimetres long.
The larger story is more important than any one roller: robot cleaning is expanding beyond indoor floors. A pool cleaner, lawn robot or window robot solves a different maintenance problem and can be simpler and more reliable than a general-purpose machine with arms.
Ecovacs later announced the Ultramarine P1 robotic pool cleaner as available through its CES exhibitor announcements. That should be treated separately from products merely displayed at CES. Buyers should confirm the exact model, country, support terms, replacement parts and current price before ordering.
Vacuum Wars’ CES coverage describes the broader lineup, while the CES exhibitor release archive contains later availability announcements.
MOVA Pilot70, Zeus 60 and Mobius 60
Status: experimental concepts or prototypes.
MOVA attacked the multi-floor problem in several ways:

- Pilot70: a flying module intended to move a robot vacuum between floors.
- Zeus 60: a stair-climbing module.
- Mobius 60: a vacuum-and-mop concept using three interchangeable mop pads for different floor surfaces.
Pilot70 is visually futuristic but technically difficult. Indoor flight raises questions about battery life, noise, propeller safety, dust scattering, landing accuracy and operation around children and pets. It would also need to carry useful cleaning hardware, not merely fly empty between floors. Owning multiple specialized robots may ultimately be safer and cheaper than maintaining an indoor flying vacuum.

LG CLOiD: CES’s clearest home-butler demonstration
Status: development and demonstration; no confirmed retail price or general-availability date was established.
LG presented CLOiD as an AI-powered home robot connected to the company’s ThinQ smart-home ecosystem. In demonstrations described by LG, it retrieved milk from a refrigerator, put a croissant in an oven, started laundry cycles and folded and stacked clothes after drying.
CLOiD uses a wheeled base, two articulated arms with seven degrees of freedom each and hands with five independently actuated fingers. LG says its cameras, sensors, display, speaker and voice interface work with a vision-language model and a vision-language-action system to interpret instructions and translate them into physical actions.
That combination is meaningful because household tasks require both understanding and physical control. A voice command such as “prepare breakfast” is not useful unless the robot can identify the correct food, open the right appliance, handle objects safely and recover when something is missing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHowever, LG’s announcement describes a CES demonstration and development direction—not a retail product. The demonstration does not prove that CLOiD can reliably sort a family’s laundry, handle hot food, respond to a child entering its path or complete chores without remote assistance.
LG’s official CLOiD announcement provides the company’s description of the system.

Independent coverage described demonstrations involving laundry and other household manipulation, while also noting that movements were slow and imperfect. That limitation is important. Completing one chore on a prepared stage is evidence of capability, not evidence of reliable unsupervised operation in a changing home.
The product page displayed a nominal price field, but that should not be treated as a confirmed U.S. retail price without a functioning checkout or official availability statement. Buyers should also establish whether the price includes the complete robot, software, support and replacement parts.
SwitchBot’s official product page is the appropriate place to check current status.
Zeroth Robotics M1: an early interactive-AI product signal
Status: company-announced preorder and launch plan; shipping and final terms require confirmation.
Zeroth Robotics announced a U.S. lineup of interactive AI robots for families and businesses. The company said its M1 would be available for preorder in the first quarter of 2026, starting at $2,899, with general availability expected in April 2026.
Those are company-provided launch claims, not proof of current retail availability. Before treating M1 as a purchase recommendation, buyers should confirm that preorders opened, the product shipped, the quoted price applies to the complete configuration and that no subscription, service plan or commercial contract is required.
Even at $2,899, an interactive robot should not automatically be compared with a robot vacuum. The relevant question is how many useful tasks it performs reliably, how much human supervision it needs and what support exists if its hardware fails.
Zeroth’s announcement contains the stated price and schedule.

Why general-purpose household robots are still difficult
A demonstration is not deployment
A CES demonstration may be preprogrammed, remotely assisted, performed in a prepared environment, limited to a small set of objects or repeated until successful. A credible product claim should identify whether the evidence represents:

The difference matters because domestic environments are unpredictable. A robot must recover when a cup is moved, a drawer is partly open, lighting changes, a towel is tangled or a person blocks its route.
Manipulation is harder than navigation
Laundry and kitchen work involve soft, deformable and fragile objects; occlusion; hot surfaces; liquids; doors; drawers; appliance interfaces and objects that look similar but need different handling. Folding one towel is not equivalent to sorting, folding and storing a household’s laundry thousands of times without damage.
Humanoid form is not the same as usefulness
A human-like body can help a robot use tools and furniture designed for people, but it also adds balance, safety, battery and control problems. A specialized machine often has lower costs, fewer failure modes and a clearer return on investment.

At CES, “AI” could mean object classification, semantic mapping, voice recognition, navigation, spill detection, task planning, a large multimodal model or a vision-language-action system. These capabilities are not interchangeable. A robot that recognizes a cable is not necessarily a robot that can generalize to a new household task.
Why commercial robots may arrive first
Factories, warehouses, hotels, restaurants and other workplaces are easier targets for general-purpose robotics than homes. They typically have defined routes, repeatable tasks, predictable objects, controlled access and trained staff nearby.
Commercial buyers can also evaluate payload, reach, shift length, charging, emergency-stop systems, workflow integration and measured productivity. They may lease a machine through Robotics-as-a-Service instead of purchasing it outright.
That makes industrial humanoids such as Boston Dynamics’ Atlas important as benchmarks for dynamic movement, whole-body control and manipulation—but not as household appliances. The ability to lift, walk or manipulate an object in an industrial setting does not establish safe, affordable, unsupervised domestic labor.
What can you realistically buy?
The status of each CES robot matters as much as its feature list:
- Available now: confirm the exact model, country, support and purchase route. Ecovacs’ Ultramarine P1 was later reported as available, but availability should be checked for the reader’s market.
- Announced: Samsung’s Jet Bot Steam Ultra was announced with advanced capabilities, but the reviewed material did not establish a verified U.S. retail price.
- Preorder or launch claim: Zeroth M1 had a company-stated $2,899 starting price and 2026 launch schedule; actual shipping and service terms require confirmation.
- Availability unclear: SwitchBot Onero H1’s official page was indexed as unavailable.
- Prototype or concept: Roborock Saros Rover, MOVA Pilot70 and Zeus 60 should not be treated as ordinary retail products.
- Development demonstration: LG CLOiD had no confirmed consumer price or general-availability date in the reviewed sources.
- Industrial context: Boston Dynamics Atlas is not a consumer home robot.
How to judge these robots before buying
For robot vacuums and cleaning robots

- Threshold capability in your actual home.
- Noise and dock size.
- Brushes, filters, batteries and other consumables.
- App reliability and cloud dependence.
- Privacy controls for cameras and maps.
- Repairability, replacement parts and failure recovery.
For butler robots
- Number of tasks completed reliably, not merely demonstrated once.
- Performance with different objects, lighting and clutter.
- Safe interaction with children, pets, hot surfaces and liquids.
- Recovery when an object is missing or moved.
- Battery endurance and autonomous charging.
- Noise, footprint and safe operating space.
- Need for remote human intervention.
- Camera, map and voice-data handling.
- Purchase price plus subscriptions, service and parts.
The bottom line from CES 2026
CES 2026 showed genuine progress, but it did not deliver a universally capable home servant. The strongest consumer case remains specialized automation: better robot vacuums, improved mopping, pool cleaning, lawn care, window cleaning and—eventually—robots that can manage multiple floors.
LG CLOiD was the clearest home-butler vision. SwitchBot Onero H1 and Zeroth M1 showed that interactive household robots are moving beyond laboratory research, but availability, reliability and support remain decisive uncertainties. Roborock’s Saros Rover and MOVA’s stair concepts targeted a real weakness, yet climbing stairs safely is not the same as cleaning every staircase.
The most important lesson is simple: the futuristic robot most people can realistically use is still a specialized cleaning robot. General-purpose butlers have made visible progress, but they are not yet normal consumer appliances.
