Can the eufyMake E1 Really Print Fake Wood and Paint Textures?

The eufyMake E1 can create wood-like grain and paint-like relief with layered UV-cured ink. Here is what it can do, where it falls short and who should buy it.

Yes—but “fake wood” and “paint texture” mean raised, tactile UV-ink relief, not actual wood or conventional paint. Formerly associated with Anker’s creator ecosystem, the machine is now marketed as the eufyMake E1. It prints and UV-cures ink in layers to create wood-grain effects, brushstroke-like surfaces, embossed lettering and other decorative finishes.

That makes it potentially useful for signs, plaques, panels and short-run decorative work. It does not manufacture wood, replace a structural coating or operate like a conventional filament or resin 3D printer.

What the eufyMake E1 actually does

The E1 is a compact, direct-to-object UV inkjet printer. It places colored, white and gloss ink onto a substrate, then hardens the ink with ultraviolet light during printing.

The physical relief comes from stacking controlled ink layers. In a typical texture workflow:

  1. The artwork supplies color information.
  2. A texture or height map tells the software where relief should rise.
  3. The printhead lays down successive ink layers.
  4. UV light cures those layers into a raised surface.

This is closer to decorating an existing object than making a freestanding 3D part. The result can look and feel three-dimensional, but the ink remains attached to the underlying wood, metal, acrylic, ceramic, canvas, leather or other supported material.

How it creates a wood-like finish

There are two separate effects: visual grain and tactile grain.

Visual grain comes from printing directional lines and wood-like colors such as brown, tan, gray or painted tones. Tactile grain comes from raising selected lines above the surface. A suitable height map can therefore make a flat acrylic, metal or ceramic blank resemble a grained panel when viewed and touched.

Printing directly onto real wood creates a hybrid result. The printed design sits on top of the timber, while the wood’s own color and grain may remain visible. Independent testing found that relatively neutral wood with unobtrusive grain can work well, especially when a white base layer is omitted or reduced. Strong grain can also interfere with fine details and change the apparent color of the design.

A white underlayer improves opacity and color brightness on dark or transparent materials, but it can hide some of the substrate’s natural character. For a wood effect, the best setting depends on whether the goal is to preserve the real grain or cover it with a fully printed design.

How it mimics paint and brushstrokes

The E1 can print irregular raised areas that suggest oil-paint impasto, brush marks, canvas texture, decorative lettering or a glossy varnished region. A raised image on canvas can give wall art more apparent depth than an ordinary flat print.

However, the material is cured printer ink—not oil or acrylic paint. It does not have the same softness, translucency, flexibility, cracking behavior, aging characteristics or edge profile as a hand-painted coating. “Paint-like printed relief” is more accurate than “real paint texture.”

What the manufacturer claims

  • Texture height: up to 5 mm.
  • Print area: approximately 330 × 420 mm.
  • Resolution: up to 1,440 DPI.
  • Materials: eufyMake advertises compatibility with more than 300 materials, including wood, metal, acrylic, ceramic, stone, glass, canvas, leather, fabric and film.

The 5 mm figure is a maximum capability, not a setting every design should use. Deep relief consumes more ink, takes longer and can make small lettering or fine patterns less clean. A lower height is often more practical for cards, plaques, detailed graphics and frequently handled objects.

The advertised material count should also be treated as a range of supported categories, not a guarantee that every untreated household surface will print equally well.

What independent testing reveals

Independent coverage supports the basic claim that the E1 can produce a tactile 3D effect. Reviews have reported raised treatments on canvas and useful results on selected wood blanks. The underlying surface remains important: rough wood, canvas weave and textured ceramics can add character, but they can also soften fine details.

Testing also highlights practical constraints. Fabric and tote bags are harder than promotional images suggest because the material must be held flat and rigid, accurately aligned and kept within the printer’s clearance. One independent test reported an object-height limit of about 60 mm, or 2.36 inches. Handles, rims, deep recesses and irregular sidewalls can prevent reliable printing.

The software is relatively approachable, but preparing the artwork, setting the relief and positioning the object still require judgment. The printer cannot compensate for a poor height map, an unstable blank or an unsuitable surface.

Important limits for construction and sign work

It does not create structural wood

A printed grain pattern cannot provide the strength, fiber structure, moisture behavior or repairability of real timber. It is a decorative finish on an existing substrate.

Adhesion depends on the surface

Raw, painted, sealed, glossy, powdery and solvent-sensitive surfaces do not behave the same way. Existing paint must be fully cured and sufficiently stable. Smooth metal, acrylic, glass and some plastics may need careful cleaning or an adhesion promoter. eufyMake sells separate acrylic and metal preparation products, which underlines the importance of surface preparation.

Do not assume the E1 will adhere permanently to every painted wall panel, coated object or household finish. Test the exact substrate and handling conditions before committing a customer’s material.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Durability is application-specific

A decorative indoor plaque and an exterior sign face very different wear. Scratching, delamination, sunlight, moisture, abrasion, repeated washing and temperature changes can all affect the result. A sample that looks permanent on a display piece is not proof of outdoor, industrial, food-contact or washable-fabric performance.

Curved and flexible objects need support

The basic flatbed workflow is best suited to flat or carefully fixtured objects. Optional accessories support some cylindrical workflows, but tapered surfaces, handles and deep curves can create alignment and ink-coverage problems. Flexible fabric is a particularly demanding application.

Practical uses

  • Raised lettering and decorative graphics on wood plaques.
  • Short-run signs and interior display panels.
  • Canvas wall art with brushstroke-like relief.
  • Personalized ceramic magnets, coasters and tiles.
  • Acrylic or metal decorative panels.
  • Leather and leather-like small goods.
  • Customized gifts and other short-run merchandise.

For construction-related work, the strongest fit is small-format decorative finishing rather than large panels, structural components or production-scale architectural coatings.

Size, maintenance and ownership considerations

The official US specifications list a print area of about 330 × 420 mm, printer dimensions of 590 × 250 × 407 mm and a weight of approximately 20 kg. That makes the machine compact for a UV printer, but it still needs a stable work surface, clearance and accurate fixturing.

The E1 uses CMYK, white and gloss inks, with flexible white ink available for some fabric applications. It also requires cleaning supplies. The official ink and cleaning kit includes 600 ml of CMYK+white+gloss ink and a 380 ml cleaning cartridge. The company’s ink information lists a 12-month cartridge shelf life and an 18-month shelf life for cleaning cartridges, subject to its stated conditions.

US prices shown by the manufacturer during August 2026 were approximately $2,199 for the printer without ink, $2,499 for a basic bundle and $3,299 for a deluxe bundle. A 100 ml cartridge was listed at $29.99 after a July 2026 price reduction, while the ink-and-cleaning kit was listed at $209.99. Prices, stock and bundles vary by country, tax and promotion.

Those figures exclude the value of test blanks, preparation materials, maintenance and failed prints. Proprietary consumables and printhead care should be part of the ownership calculation, particularly for a small business.

When the E1 makes sense

The E1 is a good fit when you need full-color, direct-to-object printing with a tactile finish and your work is mostly small, rigid and short-run. It may suit artists, sign shops, makers and sellers producing customized plaques, panels, gifts or wall art.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a weaker fit when you need large-format production, inexpensive mass output, floppy garments, thick irregular objects, proven exterior durability or an open consumables ecosystem. It is also the wrong tool if your goal is to create freestanding objects like a normal 3D printer.

Alternatives to consider

  • Laser engraving: better for cutting and engraving wood, acrylic, leather and some coated metals, but it does not provide full-color raised ink.
  • Sublimation: often more economical for compatible polyester textiles and coated hard goods, but it produces a transferred image rather than tactile relief.
  • DTF or UV-DTF: useful for transferring graphics to some irregular surfaces, using film and lamination rather than direct printed relief.
  • Conventional painting: better for actual paint thickness, flexible coatings, restoration, large surfaces and applications requiring a known coating system.
  • Resin or filament 3D printing: better for making freestanding three-dimensional objects.
  • Commercial flatbed UV printing: more appropriate for established, higher-volume print operations, although typically larger and more expensive.

Verdict

The claim is broadly true when stated precisely: the eufyMake E1 can simulate wood grain, brushstrokes and embossed finishes by building raised layers of UV-cured ink. It can print onto real wood, but it does not create wood; it can imitate paint texture, but it does not apply conventional paint.

Its distinctive value is compact, full-color, direct-to-object relief printing. Buyers should judge it by the exact substrate, object size, required durability, consumable costs and production volume—not by the maximum 5 mm figure or the “300-plus materials” headline alone.
