There isn’t one best Whirlpool top-loading washer for every home: the right pick depends on whether you need a compact machine, a larger drum, a removable agitator, or smart conveniences. Whirlpool’s published specifications offer a useful shortlist, but they do not establish which model cleans best, lasts longest, or offers the best value in independent testing.
Whirlpool top-load washer picks by need
The capacities and feature descriptions below come from Whirlpool’s comparison chart and model pages. Check the exact model suffix and current product listing before buying; specifications and availability can differ between versions.

Agitator, impeller, or removable agitator?
Conventional agitator
Whirlpool describes an agitator as a center post that moves clothing during the wash. The WTW4855HW is one listed example of a top-loader with this design. This describes the wash mechanism, not proof that it cleans better or is gentler than another configuration.

Impeller
An impeller is a low-profile wash plate at the bottom of the basket. Whirlpool says it moves clothes against one another; its compact WTW2000HW is listed with impeller action. Do not infer specific differences in stain removal, fabric wear, water use, or cycle time from the mechanism alone.
Removable agitator
On select Whirlpool models, the center post can be removed to expose the wash plate. Whirlpool presents this as a choice: keep the post for agitator-style washing, or remove it to open up more usable basket space for bulky items. How to choose the right model for your home
Start with capacity and available space
Match the listed capacity to the size and frequency of your loads, then compare the washer’s dimensions with the installation space. The cited comparison chart establishes capacity ranges, but a capacity figure alone does not tell you whether the cabinet will fit through a doorway or into a particular laundry area; use the exact model’s product specifications for dimensions.
Decide whether you will use the extra features
A removable agitator may be useful if you want to switch between the center-post configuration and more open basket space. For smart functions, Load & Go, a pretreat station, a built-in faucet, or Deep Water Wash, verify that the exact model includes the feature and that it addresses a need you have. Features listed for one model should not be assumed to carry over to another.
