For a home office, the Bostitch MPS1-BLK is the clearest all-around choice on documented features: it can be screwed to a wall or attached to a tabletop, has eight pencil-size settings, and includes a removable shavings tray and replaceable cutter. If you want a temporary suction mount for desk use as well as the option of permanent screw installation, consider the Bostitch MPS2-BLK instead. These are specification-based recommendations, not results from comparative performance testing.

Choose the MPS2-BLK for temporary desk mounting
The MPS2-BLK offers a different mounting arrangement: Bostitch describes its vacuum base as a temporary tabletop mount and screws as the permanent wall-mount option. That makes it the more directly documented choice if you may want to move between a desk and a fixed wall installation. Its removable oversized translucent bin and steel cutter are also specified by the manufacturer; the page does not state a number of pencil-size settings or physical dimensions.
Consider the X-ACTO KS only after checking stock
X-ACTO’s product page describes the KS 1031LMR as mountable on a wall, desk, or table with included screws. It lists dual hardened helical cutters and adjustment for eight pencil sizes. However, the official page showed “Out of Stock” at the time this article was prepared, so verify availability before treating it as a purchasable alternative. X-ACTO also maintains a manual sharpeners category page.

Mounting and upkeep details to check
