For a portable room air purifier, choose a unit with particle CADR suited to the room first; treat ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI, often called UV-C) as a possible supplemental feature, not a replacement for filtration. The available 2024 product example is a GermGuardian True HEPA purifier with UV light, but current model details and availability are not established, so it cannot be presented as a verified current best buy.
What ultraviolet light does—and does not do
UVGI is intended to inactivate airborne microorganisms as air passes through a device or treatment zone. CDC/NIOSH describes germicidal UV as a supplemental treatment, and performance depends on the system’s design and application. A UV lamp’s presence alone does not establish whole-room disinfection or a specific level of virus removal. CDC/NIOSH guidance on germicidal UV.
UV does not capture airborne particles. For particle removal, look for an appropriate filter and a clean air delivery rate (CADR) that fits the room. UV should not be treated as a substitute for those basics.
How to size a purifier to a room
The EPA’s approximate minimum CADR chart assumes an 8-foot ceiling. Its figures are sizing estimates for particle removal, not guarantees of a health outcome; higher ceilings may require a higher CADR.

- 4-in-1 Air Purifier for Home: The POMORON's new generation ionizer air purifier makes a great combination of important functions including Air Ionizer, True H13 Filter, UV Light and Essential Oil Diffuser. We try our best to provide the best air quality to improve your life.
- Air Ionizer & UV Light: It generates negative ion into the air which can attach to floating allergens like pollen, dust, dander and weight them down. It’s also been proven to effectively reduce odors in rooms. Built-in UV light further purify air that has already passed through the filter.
- True H13 Filter: The MJ002H air purifier is initially equipped with a 3-layer H13 filter. It can effectively filter 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns, such as Pollen, Dust, Allergies, Pet Dander and Smoke. Activated carbon effectively absorbs smoke, VOCs and smell from the air.
- 8/12/24 Hrs Timer & 4 Fan Speeds: The air purifier has different settings including 25dB ultra-quiet sleep mode, 8/12/24 hours timer setting, 4 level fan speeds, etc. These considerate settings can take good care of your needs.
- Official POMORON Filters: 1 H13 filter is included in the package. Search for MJ002H-RF to get more POMORON's MJ002H replacement filters. Off-brand filters are not guaranteed to offer the same performance or quality.
| Room area | Approximate minimum CADR |
|---|---|
| 100 sq. ft. | 65 cfm |
| 200 sq. ft. | 130 cfm |
| 300 sq. ft. | 195 cfm |
| 400 sq. ft. | 260 cfm |
| 500 sq. ft. | 325 cfm |
| 600 sq. ft. | 390 cfm |
These approximate minimums come from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s home air-cleaner guide. Match the rated CADR to the room where the unit will actually run, and account for ceiling height rather than relying on a broad coverage claim without checking its assumptions.
What to check before choosing a UV-feature model
- Particle filtration and CADR: Confirm the filter type and rated CADR, then compare the CADR with the room’s area and ceiling height.
- UV implementation: Treat it as an additional treatment feature. Do not infer universal pathogen removal or room disinfection from the existence of a lamp.
- Ozone emissions: EPA warns that some UV devices with inadequately coated lamps may have ozone-emission potential. Avoid air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone, and look for credible emissions evidence or applicable certification. EPA’s ozone-generator guidance addresses ozone generators specifically; its warning that no federal agency has approved those devices for occupied spaces should not be misapplied to all UV purifiers.
- Odors and gases: Particle filters do not necessarily remove gases. EPA identifies carbon or another absorbent medium as the relevant filter feature for gases and volatile organic compounds (VOCs); it says research has not shown UV effective for gas removal in portable residential cleaners.
- Practical upkeep: Check noise at the fan setting you expect to use, and confirm replacement-filter availability and cost for the exact model. These are model-specific details and should be verified against current product information.
EPA also states that it does not certify or recommend particular air-filter or portable-cleaner brands or models. A UV feature is therefore not an EPA endorsement or proof of performance.

The 2024 UV purifier example—and its limits
Popular Science’s 2024 review, “The best air purifiers for 2024, tested and reviewed,” named a GermGuardian True HEPA Filter Air Purifier its “Best with UV light” and gave it a recommended room size of 153 square feet. That is a dated editorial example, not evidence of current stock, a verified model number or current specifications. The review result also does not establish that UV performance was separately validated.
Before treating this or another product as a current recommendation, verify its exact manufacturer listing, CADR and room-size rating, compatible replacement filters, and ozone-emission evidence. The named review is available at Popular Science’s 2024 air purifier review.
