The best smart oven depends on what you want it to change. For most countertop buyers, the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is the strongest all-rounder. Choose the Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro for guided recipes and automation, the Anova Precision Oven 2.0 for steam and precision cooking, Tovala for scan-to-cook convenience, or Samsung’s Bespoke AI wall oven when you are replacing a built-in appliance.
“Smart oven” is not one precise category. It can mean a connected toaster oven, a guided-cooking appliance, a combi-steam oven, a meal-service appliance, or a full-size wall oven linked to a smart-home platform. Those products should not be judged by the same standard.

What makes an oven “smart”?
A digital display and a timer do not automatically make an oven smart. The useful dividing line is whether technology reduces decisions or improves consistency.
- Connected ovens add Wi-Fi, alerts, remote monitoring or smart-home integration.
- Guided-cooking ovens provide recipes that select temperature, time and cooking mode.
- Automated ovens can move through multiple stages, such as preheating, roasting and browning.
- Combi-steam ovens combine convection heat with controlled humidity.
- Camera-equipped ovens may identify food or recommend a programme, but recognition is not a guarantee of doneness.
- Meal-service ovens connect cooking presets with barcode scanning and delivered meals.
- Smart wall ovens bring connectivity and automation to a full-size built-in appliance.
Wi-Fi alone does not improve heating performance. The practical gains are workflow, notifications, recipe guidance, probe-based cooking and repeatability.
1. Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro: best overall
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is the sensible choice for most people who want a capable countertop oven without making an app the centre of their kitchen. It has 13 cooking functions, including bake, roast, broil, air fry, proof and dehydrate, plus six quartz heating elements managed through Breville’s Element IQ system.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIts physical controls are a major advantage. You can select a mode, temperature and time quickly without opening an app or navigating a touchscreen. Breville also offers Breville+ guidance and registration-based connected features, but the oven remains useful as a conventional appliance.
Choose it if: you want one countertop appliance for toast, roasting, baking, reheating and air frying, with optional recipe guidance.
Think twice if: you need controlled steam, a compact counter footprint or the lowest possible price. Breville’s claim that super convection can reduce cooking time by up to 30% is a manufacturer claim, not a universal independent result.

- The Breville Smart Convection Oven Pro with Element iQ System is a high performance countertop oven; Home cooks can reduce cooking time by up to 30% using convection setting; Choose from 10 cooking functions as interior oven light guides you to precision
- ELEMENT iQ SYSTEM: Using 5 independent quartz elements, smart algorithms steer countertop oven's power where and when it's needed to create a tailored cooking environment for precise results; Fast 1800 Watt preheat gets meals on the kitchen table faster
- CONVECTION POWERED: The Smart Oven Pro's convection setting reduces cooking time by up to 30%; An inbuilt fan circulates the hot air within the oven which speeds the cooking process by stripping away the cold air that surrounds your food
- 10 COOKING FUNCTIONS: Versatile countertop oven with 10 cooking functions to bring a new range of options to your kitchen; Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat, Warm and Slow Cook; Like having a toaster oven, pizza oven and more in one
- SMART OVEN WITH SLOW COOK FUNCTION: Take your time to tenderize and develop complex flavors using the slow cook function, designed for long cook times at low temperatures; Slow Cook for up to 10 hours before the setting automatically turns to keep warm
2. Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro: best for guided cooking
The Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro uses broadly similar countertop-oven fundamentals but adds a more ambitious software layer. It has 13 physical cooking functions and three app-exclusive modes, including guided recipes, Autopilot and Breville+ content.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

The oven is large enough for nine slices of toast and, according to the listed specification, a 14-pound turkey, although usable capacity depends on the pan, rack position and recipe.
The premium is mainly for the guided experience rather than a completely different basic oven. Tom’s Guide reported strong cooking performance but noted that accessories were not dishwasher-safe. Its testing also found that at least one app-guided preheat workflow still required a physical start-button press. That distinction matters: app monitoring is not the same as unrestricted remote starting.
Choose it if: you want recipes to guide settings and timing, and you will regularly use Autopilot or app-exclusive modes.
Buy the cheaper Breville instead if: you mainly toast, reheat and air fry manually.

4. Tovala Smart Oven: best for scan-to-cook convenience
Tovala is built around convenience rather than open-ended culinary control. Its scan-to-cook system can identify supported foods and apply a preset, while the wider ecosystem connects the oven to Tovala Meals.
Tovala’s support documentation lists the Smart Oven at a $299 MSRP and the Smart Oven Pro at $349. Its meal service is a separate ongoing cost: meals start at $8.99 per serving, with standard single-serving meals generally listed at $13.99. The cited minimum plan is four meals per week, generally $55.96 plus tax, with $10.99 shipping.

5. Samsung Bespoke AI Single Wall Oven: best built-in smart oven
The Samsung Bespoke AI Single Wall Oven belongs in a different category. It is a 5.1-cubic-foot built-in appliance designed for a kitchen installation, not a countertop replacement.
The cited NV51CG700SMTAA model includes SmartThings connectivity, a seven-inch AI Home display, AI Pro Cooking, a built-in camera, steam cooking, air fry and a smart divider. Samsung’s U.S. page showed a $2,899 price signal and promotional savings when checked in August 2026, but delivery and pickup were unavailable on that page; availability is ZIP-code dependent.
Installation, electrical requirements, cabinet dimensions, ventilation and professional fitting matter as much as the app. If you are already replacing a wall oven, connected features may be worthwhile. If you rent or simply need a second oven, it is the wrong comparison.

|---|---|---|
| Convection bake | Useful for everyday roasting and baking | Actual cavity size and rack positions |
| Air fry | Provides high-airflow crisping | Basket geometry, fan performance and load size |
| Steam | Helps with bread, vegetables and moist reheating | Water capacity, cleaning and condensation |
| Temperature probe | Stops cooking by internal temperature rather than a timer | Probe placement and supported programmes |

| Food recognition | Can suggest a starting programme | Accuracy with unusual foods and portions |
| Proof and dehydrate | Expands bread, fruit and jerky uses | Low-temperature stability and usable space |
A long mode list is less meaningful than accurate temperature control, a useful probe, effective steam or controls you can operate without frustration.

Can a countertop smart oven replace a full-size oven?
Often, but not universally. A large countertop model can handle toast, vegetables, pizza, reheating, small roasts, baking and air frying. It may replace a toaster, air fryer or dehydrator for some households.
It usually will not replace a full-size oven for multiple casseroles, large sheet pans, very large roasts or holiday-scale cooking. Interior dimensions matter more than the product label. Measure whether your 9-by-13-inch pan, preferred pizza size or two-rack setup actually fits.
The Joule’s listed turkey capacity and the Anova’s approximately 12-by-15-inch pan support are manufacturer or reviewer specifications, not guarantees that every recipe will fit. Also measure the exterior width, depth, door swing, handle projection, overhead clearance and required ventilation space.
Is air frying in a smart oven as good as a dedicated air fryer?
It depends on the load. A countertop oven gives you more surface area and more cooking modes, while a dedicated basket air fryer may circulate air more aggressively around a smaller quantity of food. Overloading any basket or tray reduces airflow and can create uneven crisping.
Tom’s Guide found the Joule effective with frozen fries but less consistent when homemade fries crowded the basket. A smart oven’s air-fry label is therefore meaningful, but it does not guarantee the same results as a dedicated fryer.
Apps, accounts and subscriptions
| Product | App or account role | Ongoing-cost concern |
|---|---|---|
| Breville Joule | Guided recipes, Autopilot, app modes and monitoring | Check which content is permanently included and which is promotional |
| Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro | Optional Breville+ guidance and registration | The oven remains usable without making the app central |
| Anova Precision Oven 2.0 | Guided cooking, recipe conversion, Smart Detect and remote control | Anova lists several of these as premium features |
| Tovala | Presets, scanning and meal ecosystem | The meal proposition introduces recurring food and delivery costs |
| Samsung wall oven | SmartThings connectivity and connected controls | Requires compatible network and account setup |
Before buying, distinguish monitoring, notifications, setting changes, preheating and starting a cook cycle. Safety controls may require local confirmation. Never treat an app as permission to leave cooking food unattended.
Installation, cleaning and ownership checklist
- Measure the complete countertop footprint, including the open door and handle.
- Confirm ventilation clearance and use a heat-safe, stable surface.
- Check the interior dimensions rather than relying on claimed serving capacity.
- Find out whether racks, trays and baskets are dishwasher-safe.
- For steam models, understand tank cleaning, condensation and descaling.
- Ask whether a camera or sensor can be cleaned easily after greasy cooking.
- Price replacement probes, racks, trays and baskets.
- Confirm whether the oven works manually during Wi-Fi or app outages.
- Check supported iOS and Android versions, Wi-Fi bands and smart-home platforms.
- For wall ovens, verify cabinet cutout, electrical requirements, delivery and installation.
How to choose
- Need steam, bread control or sous vide? Choose the Anova Precision Oven 2.0.
- Want the easiest capable countertop appliance? Choose the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro.
- Want guided recipes and automation? Choose the Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro.
- Want scanning and delivered meals? Choose Tovala, after calculating the recurring meal cost.
- Replacing a built-in oven? Consider the Samsung Bespoke AI model or a conventional wall oven if connectivity is not important.
- Mainly want inexpensive air frying? A simpler dedicated air fryer may offer better value than any smart oven.
Final verdict
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is the best general recommendation because it combines useful capacity, versatile cooking, physical controls and optional smart guidance without requiring the software to justify the entire purchase.
The Joule is better for cooks who genuinely want guided recipes and automated stages. Anova is the specialist choice when steam, humidity and precision techniques matter. Tovala is a convenience service built around an oven. Samsung’s Bespoke AI is appropriate when a kitchen project already calls for a full-size built-in wall oven.
The most important question is not how much AI an oven has. It is whether the technology solves your actual cooking problem without adding more counter clutter, cleaning, subscriptions or installation complexity than it saves.
