Sharp’s countertop lineup spans compact turntable models, flatbed microwaves, combination-cooking units, and larger-capacity ovens. The right choice depends first on whether the microwave fits your counter and cookware, then on the capacity, wattage, and features you want. Sharp’s published specifications distinguish these models, but they do not establish which heats most evenly or lasts longest.
How to choose a Sharp countertop microwave
- Measure the available space. Check the microwave’s external dimensions against your counter, including room for any clearance required by its manual. Compare the actual cavity dimensions with the dishes you plan to use; capacity alone does not show whether a particular dish will fit.
- Choose a capacity. Sharp lists models from compact sizes to 2.2 cu. ft. Larger capacity may suit larger dishes, but consider the unit’s outside dimensions as well as its interior.
- Compare wattage. Wattage is a useful specification when narrowing options, but it is not an independent measure of cooking quality. The available Sharp sources do not provide head-to-head heating tests.
- Pick a cooking layout and features. Decide whether you prefer a rotating Carousel turntable, a flatbed interior, inverter technology, or additional cooking modes such as air-fry and convection.
- Confirm the exact model and accessories. Similar model numbers can have different features or installation compatibility. Verify the model number on the product page and check accessory compatibility before buying.

| Model | Capacity and output | Documented features | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMC0962HS | 0.9 cu. ft.; 900 W | 10.6-inch Carousel turntable, presets, and auto defrost | Shoppers seeking a compact turntable model. Sharp product page |
| SMC1174KS | 1.1 cu. ft.; 1100 W | Flatbed layout and inverter technology | Those who prefer a flatbed rather than a turntable. Sharp lists the model in its countertop microwave catalog; its support site lists the operational manual. |
| SMC0985KS | Capacity and wattage not stated in the cited announcement | Microwave, air-fry, and convection cooking | Shoppers interested in combining several cooking modes in one countertop appliance. Sharp announced this model as a 3-in-1 microwave; the announcement does not establish performance superiority. Sharp announcement |
| SMC2266KS | 2.2 cu. ft.; 1200 W | Inverter technology | Those prioritizing larger listed capacity. Sharp catalog entry |
| SMC2265GS | 2.2 cu. ft.; 1200 W | Optional SKM4279HS 27-inch or SKM430F9HS 30-inch trim kits are listed for this model | Those seeking a built-in-style finish option. Confirm the specific kit and installation requirements; Sharp’s compatibility listing is for the SMC2265GS, not other models. Sharp product page |
Which model suits your kitchen?
For a compact counter setup: SMC0962HS
The SMC0962HS pairs a 0.9 cu. ft. capacity with 900 W output and a 10.6-inch turntable. Its presets and auto-defrost controls add convenience without the extra cooking modes documented for the SMC0985KS.
For a flatbed interior: SMC1174KS
Sharp lists the 1.1 cu. ft., 1100 W SMC1174KS as a flatbed model with inverter technology. Check its manual and dimensions before choosing it, especially if your cookware is wide or unusually shaped.
For air-fry and convection options: SMC0985KS
Sharp’s announcement describes the SMC0985KS as a countertop 3-in-1 appliance combining microwave, air-fry, and convection cooking. Those modes may appeal if you want multiple cooking functions in one appliance; the announcement alone does not show how its results compare with a dedicated air fryer, convection oven, or another microwave.

Capacity, wattage, dimensions, and cooking layout are useful filters, not a substitute for comparative testing. Sharp’s catalog and product materials document model specifications and features, but the cited sources do not establish which model cooks more evenly, performs best for a given food, or has the longest service life. Treat feature descriptions as manufacturer-listed capabilities rather than independent performance findings.
