For most reachable exterior windows, the best starting point is an outdoor window cleaning kit that combines a scrubber, squeegee, and telescoping pole. The scrubber loosens dust and grime; the squeegee removes excess water. Together, they cover the basic cleaning workflow more effectively than a handheld spray bottle alone.
There is no independently tested single “best” product in the evidence reviewed. Your best choice depends on window height, reach, tool weight, cleaning-head design, and whether you want manual cleaning or powered water collection.

Best overall category: an outdoor window squeegee and scrubber kit
For a typical house or apartment with exterior glass that can be reached from a stable position on the ground, choose a window squeegee and scrubber kit. Unger’s Outdoor Window Squeegee and Scrubber Kit, model 975620, combines a squeegee, scrubber, and telescopic pole. Its manufacturer describes the sleeve as machine washable and intended for removing dust and dirt from outside windows.

- Two 32 fl oz bottles of Windex Concentrated Outdoor Glass Cleaner are perfect for cleaning windows, patio furniture, brick and other outdoor surfaces
- The specially-designed spray bottle conveniently attaches directly to your garden hose to clean outdoor windows, glass patio furniture, lamps and doors
- This multisurface cleaner works without wiping; just spray, rinse, and let dry to clean stubborn dirt and grime outside your home
- Phosphorus and ammonia free outdoor cleaner formula will not harm plants, siding, grills, plastics or synthetic decks
- Concentrated cleaner removes dirt, grime, smudges and smears, leaving behind only our famous streak-free shine
This format is practical because each part has a distinct job:
- Scrubber: wets and loosens dust, grime, and residue.
- Squeegee: clears dirty water from the glass.
- Telescoping pole: extends your reach without requiring you to hold the tool directly by hand.
Look for a washable microfiber sleeve, a replaceable or cleanable rubber blade, a head that remains controlled at an angle, and a pole that accepts replacement attachments. This is a category recommendation based on how the tools match the task, not a claim of independently verified superiority.

Best larger kit: Unger Total Pro Window Washing Kit
The Unger Total Pro Kit, model 988900, includes a 14-inch scrubber, a 12-inch squeegee, and a six-foot Connect & Clean pole. The manufacturer says the microfiber sleeve removes dirt and grime, while the squeegee removes excess water. The tools can be used with the pole or handheld.

- Water based, non-toxic, biodegradable, non-flammable and xylene-free
- Safe for use at home and work
- From the most trusted name in serious, non-solvent cleaning Krud Kutter
- Super concentrated, ready to use formula
Choose this kit if you are cleaning several windows and want separate washing and drying tools. The larger scrubber can cover more glass per pass, while the separate squeegee lets you switch tools rather than working with a permanently combined head.
Do not treat manufacturer wording such as “streak-free” as the result of an independent comparison. Streaking also depends on loose dirt, cleaner concentration, sun and wind, blade condition, and technique.
Best powered alternative: Kärcher WV 6 Plus
The Kärcher WV 6 Plus is a window vacuum cleaner, not a conventional long-pole outdoor window kit. Kärcher lists a spray bottle with microfiber cloth attachment and a powered device for collecting water from the glass. Its published specifications include a 100-minute battery runtime, approximately 300 square metres per charge, a 150-millilitre dirty-water container, a 280-millimetre working width, and 53 decibels of noise.

- NO NEED TO REMOVE SCREENS TO CLEAN: Avoid the hassle of needing to remove window screens for cleaning! Attach to your garden hose and spray & rinse screens directly to remove dirt, grime, webs, and build-up
- STREAK-FREE, SPOTLESS RESULTS: Our unique formula starts working in seconds and leaves a long-lasting streak-free shine that allows for spotless drying. Our Outdoor Window & Screen Cleaner can be used on additional surfaces including glass patio tables and fiberglass
- REACHES 24+ FEET: Use ladders less with our hose end sprayer! Depending on the structure of your home, you may not need to climb a ladder to clean your windows & screens – creating a safer, and much more convenient outdoor cleaning experience. Total reach of spray is dependent on individual’s hose type and water pressure
- PLANT AND LAWN SAFE: When used as directed, 30 SECONDS Outdoor Window & Screen Cleaner is safe to use around landscaping, plants, and your lawn. The formula naturally breaks down once rinsed into the soil
- DIRECTIONS: Connect to hose, turn on water, rinse first, switch to "Clean," wait one minute, then rinse completely. For Heavy Buildup, reapply, sponge, and rinse surrounding areas well.
This is worth considering for accessible windows when you prefer powered water collection. It should not automatically be selected for upper-storey exterior glass: the cited product information does not establish that the WV 6 Plus is a telescoping, high-access outdoor-window system.
Best combined brush-and-squeegee alternative: Leifheit telescoping cleaner
Leifheit’s Window Cleaner with Bristles and Telescopic Steel Handle uses bristles to sweep coarse dust and dirt when dry, then a rubber lip for wet squeegee cleaning. The handle extends from 110 to 190 centimetres, and the listed total product length is 120 to 200 centimetres.
This design suits people who want one head that can perform an initial dry sweep and a wet cleaning pass. Compare its actual reach with the height and angle of your windows before buying. A nominal handle length is not the same as the safe working distance you can achieve while standing securely.

How to clean outside windows without streaks
- Remove loose dirt first. Brush away or rinse off loose dust and grit before pressing a wet sleeve against the glass. This reduces the chance of dragging abrasive particles across the surface.
- Scrub the glass. Use the damp microfiber sleeve or brush to loosen grime. Work in manageable sections rather than allowing the surface to dry before water removal.
- Remove excess water with the squeegee. Use controlled passes and keep the rubber blade clean. Wipe or rinse the blade when dirt collects on it.
- Inspect the edges and frame. Remaining water around seals, corners, or trim can run back onto the glass. Use a clean microfiber cloth for final edge work where necessary.
- Maintain the equipment. Wash the sleeve according to its care instructions, rinse away grit, and replace a worn or nicked rubber blade. Dirty or damaged components can contribute to streaks.
For best visibility while working, avoid cleaning when direct sun is rapidly drying the solution. That is practical technique guidance, not a guarantee that any particular kit will produce identical results on every window.
Choosing a telescoping window cleaner
A window cleaner with a long pole is useful only when the pole gives you controlled contact with the glass. Choose based on the following factors:
- Actual height: Measure the windows you need to reach, including the working angle. Do not rely only on the advertised maximum length.
- Stiffness and control: A longer pole can flex and become harder to guide, especially with a wet head.
- Tool weight: A water-filled scrubber or heavy attachment increases fatigue.
- Attachment compatibility: Check whether the pole accepts the scrubber, squeegee, replacement head, or water-flow accessory you plan to use.
- Water-flow capability: Some systems deliver soap and water through the pole. Unger’s high-access range includes telescopic poles from three to 20 feet and a HydroPower water-flow pole for windows and other outdoor cleaning tasks.
- Stance and surroundings: Keep both feet on a stable surface. Avoid stretching, leaning, overhead hazards, and contact with electrical lines.
Use the shortest pole that reaches the glass with controlled pressure and a stable stance. If a window cannot be reached safely from the ground, use a qualified professional rather than stretching, leaning, or improvising with ladders or attachments.

Manual kit or powered window vacuum?
Choose a manual outdoor kit when you need reach. The cited manual systems combine poles with scrubbers and squeegees, making them the more direct fit for exterior glass that is above arm height.
Choose a powered window vacuum when the glass is accessible and your priority is collecting dirty water with less manual wiping. A powered vacuum is a different category from a telescoping window cleaner; do not assume its battery runtime or working width solves a high-access problem.

Cleaner chemistry matters when runoff may reach soil, drains, landscaping, or surface water. The EPA Safer Choice directory includes window and glass cleaners. EPA also has additional criteria for products certified for outdoor use and likely to be released directly into the environment. Those criteria address environmental concerns including aquatic toxicity, persistence, and bioaccumulation.
Check the exact product listing and label rather than relying on “green,” “natural,” or “eco-friendly” wording. Follow the label’s dilution, use, storage, and disposal directions.
For source reduction, EPA provides this household glass-cleaner example: Mix one tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice in one quart of water.
This is an EPA example, not evidence that the mixture will outperform a commercial cleaner on every exterior window. Never mix cleaning chemicals unless the product instructions specifically permit it.
Quick Recap
What to buy for common situations
- Most ground-reachable exterior windows: Start with a scrubber-and-squeegee kit on a telescoping pole.
- Several windows or larger panes: Consider a kit with separate scrubber and squeegee heads, such as the Unger Total Pro configuration.
- Accessible glass and powered operation: Consider the Kärcher WV 6 Plus, while treating it as a water-collection tool rather than a long-reach system.
- Dry dust removal before wet cleaning: Consider a brush-and-squeegee design such as the Leifheit cleaner.
- Very high, awkward, or unsafe windows: Arrange professional cleaning instead of choosing a longer pole solely by its maximum advertised reach.
Buying checklist
- Does the package include both a scrubber and a squeegee?
- Can the sleeve and rubber blade be cleaned or replaced?
- Will the pole reach the glass without excessive flex or leaning?
- Are the attachments compatible with the pole?
- Would water flow through the pole genuinely help your cleaning setup?
- Is the cleaner listed in the EPA Safer Choice directory if environmental criteria matter to you?
- Have you verified current price, availability, reviews, seller, and return terms?
