The clearest published appliance discount was Best Buy’s offer of up to 35% off select major appliances. Lowe’s had an active Labor Day appliance category, while Home Depot’s strongest verified offers were brand bundles rather than a broad Labor Day markdown. Prices, inventory, delivery dates, and terms can change by ZIP code and checkout date.
The practical answer: buy now if you need a specific appliance soon and can verify the complete installed total. Waiting for Labor Day is reasonable only when the current offer is vague, the model is widely available, and you can accept the risk that the price or delivery window changes.

The retailer pages below were reviewed August 16–18, 2026. “Live” means the promotion or sale category was visible at that time—not that every product in the category was discounted.

That means the retailer-level claims above are useful starting points, but they are not enough to name a genuinely cheapest refrigerator, dishwasher, range, or washer.

Best retailer by shopping situation
Best Buy: strongest visible headline discount
Best Buy had the most specific published Labor Day language: up to 35% off select major appliances. Its listed starting prices—$1,299.99 for French-door refrigerators, $529.99 for ranges, and $299.99 for dishwashers—can help establish a search baseline.
Do not assume those prices apply to the size, finish, capacity, or features you need. Open the exact listing, record the model number, and add delivery, installation, connection kits, and haul-away before comparing it with another retailer. Best Buy’s page also advertises up to a $250 e-gift card with select LG major appliances. A gift card is not the same as an instant price reduction, particularly if you would not otherwise shop at Best Buy.
Best Buy’s price-match guarantee has limitations, and marketplace products may be excluded. Confirm whether the appliance is sold directly by Best Buy and whether the competing offer meets the current price-match rules.

Lowe’s: broad local selection, less transparent discounting
Lowe’s had a live Labor Day appliance category covering major refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and ranges. The category included products from brands such as GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Bosch, and LG.
The important limitation is that the page did not establish one nationwide Labor Day percentage. Lowe’s pricing and availability can vary by ZIP code or local store, and its weekly-ad terms warn that prices, promotions, styles, and availability may differ. Set your delivery ZIP code before treating a listing as available, then verify the final cart total.
Lowe’s can be a strong choice when a local store has the exact model in stock and can deliver it sooner or at a lower installed cost. It is less useful to compare only the headline price without checking regional fees and delivery dates.

Home Depot: better for qualifying packages than one-appliance shoppers
Home Depot’s Labor Day landing page was not reliable evidence of an active 2026 Labor Day promotion; it displayed “Check back next year for Labor Day savings” when reviewed. Use the separate appliance-sales page instead.
The most substantial verified Home Depot offer was up to $3,000 off when buying two or more select LG Signature appliances, with an advertised end date of December 30, 2026. A separate Samsung promotion required eight or more select Samsung appliances and was scheduled to end August 26, 2026.
These offers can matter for a complete kitchen or large remodel, but a bundle is not automatically a bargain. Calculate the package total against the cost of buying only the models you actually want. Check exclusions, eligible model numbers, delivery, installation, haul-away, and whether the savings appear immediately or require another step.

Manufacturer-direct stores: useful for rebates, not automatically cheapest
Whirlpool and Maytag’s dedicated Labor Day promotions had already ended on August 12. Their direct sites may still show regular promotions or manufacturer rebates, but an expired holiday page should not be used as evidence of a live deal.
Manufacturer-direct shopping can provide clear warranty and rebate information. A retailer may nevertheless offer a lower delivered price, cheaper installation, local inventory, or better haul-away terms. Compare the same model number and the complete checkout total.
How to compare the real price
The relevant figure is the installed total, not the largest percentage in a banner:
- Appliance price after instant discounts
- Sales tax
- Delivery charge
- Installation labor
- Required water lines, electrical cords, gas connections, vent kits, or adapters
- Electrical, plumbing, gas-line, permit, or cabinet work
- Old-appliance haul-away
- Protection plans or extended warranties
- Membership fees
- Financing cost, if the offer is not genuinely interest-free for the full repayment period
- Manufacturer rebate timing and paperwork
A refrigerator priced $100 lower can become the worse deal if its delivery or installation costs $150 more. A $250 gift card also should not be counted as cash savings unless you value and will use it.

Category-specific checks before ordering
Refrigerators
- Measure height, width, depth, door swing, and required clearances. Advertised depth may exclude handles.
- Confirm the unit can pass through doors, hallways, elevators, and stairwells.
- Check water-line and ice-maker requirements.
- Compare usable storage, not only cubic-foot capacity.
- Treat smart controls and specialty ice systems as feature and potential service-cost decisions, not automatic upgrades.
Washers and dryers
- Confirm whether the dryer is gas or electric and whether your home has the correct connection.
- Check venting requirements and whether a cord, vent kit, or hoses are included.
- Verify stacking-kit compatibility by exact model number.
- Compare capacity and cycle times rather than judging only the set discount.
Dishwashers
- Measure the opening and confirm standard 24-inch compatibility.
- Ask whether installation includes a supply line, power cord, adapter, or electrical work.
- Compare noise rating, tub material, racks, drying system, and warranty.
- Make sure a low appliance price is not offset by plumbing or electrical prerequisites.
Ranges, wall ovens, and cooktops
- Confirm gas, electric, or induction compatibility.
- Check circuit amperage, plug configuration, cutout dimensions, and ventilation needs.
- Account for local code or permit requirements.
- For induction, confirm that existing cookware will work.
Buy now or wait for Labor Day?
There is no reliable rule that September 7 will produce a lower price. The evidence reviewed was mixed: Best Buy was already advertising a specific Labor Day discount, Lowe’s had a live sale category, Home Depot’s holiday page looked inactive while its bundle promotions continued, and Whirlpool and Maytag’s dedicated holiday offers had ended.
- Buy now if your current appliance has failed, the exact model is substantially discounted, inventory is limited, or a delivery slot is needed for a move or renovation.
- Wait if the current page merely says “sale,” no clear discount or end date is shown, the model is widely stocked, and you can tolerate a price or delivery change.
- Buy when the total is acceptable if a verified deal meets your budget and requirements. The holiday date alone is not a guarantee of the lowest installed cost.
Ten-step deal verification checklist
- Copy the exact model number, including finish and configuration.
- Search that model at Best Buy, Lowe’s, Home Depot, the manufacturer, and a warehouse club if relevant.
- Compare the same model—not a similar-looking substitute.
- Record the current price, any stated former price, discount, rebate, gift card, and expiration date.
- Set your ZIP code and confirm delivery availability.
- Add installation, haul-away, connection kits, and other services to the cart.
- Read the return, cancellation, damage-reporting, and restocking terms.
- Screenshot the promotion and its terms before checkout.
- Check price matching or post-purchase adjustment rules, including marketplace exclusions.
- Confirm the promised delivery date and inspect the appliance and packaging before signing.
Expired or unverified offers to avoid misreading
Do not recycle expired Whirlpool or Maytag Labor Day promotions that ended August 12. Do not describe Home Depot’s “check back next year” Labor Day landing page as an active sale. Do not treat a Lowe’s Labor Day category as proof that every listed product is marked down. Finally, do not use “up to 35% off,” “starting at,” a gift card, or a bundle maximum as though it applied to every appliance.
