The 15 best refrigerator picks for 2026
1. Best counter-depth French-door candidate: Bosch B36CT80SNS
The Bosch 800 Series B36CT80SNS is the strongest candidate here for a counter-depth French-door installation. Independent comparison coverage identifies the Bosch 800 Series as a leading performer in this category, while Bosch lists dual compressors and internal filtered water.
#1 Best Overall
- SPACIOUS STORAGE: With a generous 7.5 cu. ft. capacity, this platinum refrigerator ensures you have ample space for all your essentials, making it easy to keep everything at your fingertips.
- ORGANIZED CONVENIENCE: Equipped with removable glass shelves, a transparent crisper, and a full-width door bin, this small upright fridge offers organized and convenient storage for all your food and beverage items.
- DEDICATED FREEZER: Enjoy the convenience of a separate freezer compartment with ample space for your frozen goods, along with an adjustable thermostat and interior lighting for both compartments.
- SLEEK DESIGN: Featuring a sleek and durable platinum design with chrome trim and handles, this small fridge freezer adds an upscale retro look that will elevate your space.
- FLEXIBLE CONFIGURATION: The adjustable/removable shelves offer flexibility to customize the interior layout according to your needs, accommodating items of various sizes with ease. A reversible door also allows for flexible opening to best suit your space
Bosch lists appliance dimensions of 72 inches high, 35 5/8 inches wide, and 27 13/16 inches deep. Its stated cutout is 72 by 36 by 25 inches. Those figures are useful, but they are not a substitute for measuring your finished opening, flooring, trim, handles, hinge clearance, and delivery route.
Why it stands out: a shallower profile, internal water dispensing, and a premium layout that avoids putting a large dispenser on the door.
Drawbacks: Bosch listed the model at about $3,899 in the observed August 2026 snapshot, and availability varied. Counter-depth also means less front-to-back storage than a comparable standard-depth refrigerator.
Best alternative: Bosch B36CD52SNS if current pricing or availability makes the 800 Series difficult to obtain.
Check Bosch’s current specifications and availability.
2. Best value standard-depth candidate: LG LF25H6330S
The LG LF25H6330S is a practical value candidate for shoppers who want a 25-cubic-foot French-door layout, external ice and water, and a mainstream stainless finish. LG showed an observed August 2026 price signal of $1,899 for PrintProof Stainless Steel and $2,099 for PrintProof Black Stainless Steel.
Those are dated manufacturer-page observations, not guaranteed market prices. Appliance promotions, finishes, retailer stock, delivery charges, and ZIP-code availability can change quickly.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWhy it stands out: familiar family-friendly organization, substantial capacity, and an external dispenser without moving into premium pricing.
Drawbacks: the dispenser uses door space and adds plumbing, controls, and ice-making hardware. Measure carefully because a standard-depth unit may project beyond the surrounding cabinets.
Best alternative: a currently certified top-freezer refrigerator if low purchase price, simplicity, and energy use matter more than French-door convenience.
3. Best large-capacity candidate: LG LRFLC2706S
The LG LRFLC2706S belongs on a large-capacity shortlist for households that shop infrequently, buy in bulk, or regularly store wide platters. Its appeal is capacity and a familiar French-door arrangement rather than a claim that bigger is automatically better.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Before buying, confirm the exact depth, door-open dimensions, annual energy consumption, ENERGY STAR status, and current price. A large refrigerator can consume more energy simply because it has more volume, even when its design is efficient.
Skip it if: your kitchen has a strict counter-depth limit, a narrow delivery route, or a small household that will leave much of the interior unused.
Review LG’s current refrigerator catalog.
4. Best feature-rich French-door candidate: GE GFD28GYNFS
The GE GFD28GYNFS is a relevant option for families seeking a large French-door refrigerator with a feature-heavy layout. It is better suited to a spacious kitchen than to an older, tightly fitted opening.
The trade-off is complexity. Additional ice, water, controls, drawers, and sensors can improve convenience, but they also create more components to evaluate for service access and long-term ownership. Do not treat a feature list as proof of better temperature or crisper performance.
Best for: households that will use the capacity and features regularly.
Skip it if: the refrigerator is for a rental, garage, second kitchen, or owner who wants the simplest possible appliance.
5. Best GE counter-depth candidate: GE GWE22JYMFS
The GE GWE22JYMFS is a useful comparison for shoppers who want a shallower French-door refrigerator from GE. It may suit an open-plan kitchen where reducing visual projection matters more than maximizing front-to-back capacity.
“Counter-depth” is not a standardized measurement. Confirm the full appliance depth, depth with handles, door-open depth, hinge clearance, and required ventilation before ordering. Verify current model-year availability because appliance catalogs and regional stock change.

6. Best large French-door alternative: Samsung RF30BB6200QL
The Samsung RF30BB6200QL is a large-capacity alternative for shoppers interested in Samsung’s layout and feature set. Its inclusion does not establish superior reliability; that question should be answered with model-specific service, owner, and testing evidence.
Check the exact finish and model suffix. Retailers sometimes list visually similar refrigerators with different configurations, dimensions, or warranty terms.
7. Best counter-depth/four-door candidate: Samsung RF24BB6600QL
The Samsung RF24BB6600QL is worth considering when flexible organization and a shallower four-door format are more important than the simplest mechanical design. Separate compartments can make frequently used food easier to sort, but dividers and drawers may reduce practical capacity compared with the headline cubic-foot number.
Check before purchase: current U.S. stock, the full model suffix, door-open measurements, annual kWh, ice-maker location, and nearby authorized service.

8. Best counter-depth four-door candidate: Whirlpool WRQA59CNKZ
RTINGS identifies the Whirlpool WRQA59CNKZ as a counter-depth four-door refrigerator with good freezer capacity and temperature consistency. It is a compelling layout for shoppers who want more compartmental organization without a full-depth cabinet.
The qualification is produce preservation: comparison coverage indicates that it can trail some dual-evaporator competitors in this area. That does not make it a poor refrigerator; it means shoppers who prioritize fresh-produce storage should compare crisper results rather than choosing by door count.
Review RTINGS’ counter-depth comparisons.
9. Best mainstream counter-depth alternative: Whirlpool WRFC2036RB
The Whirlpool WRFC2036RB fits the mainstream counter-depth French-door category and is a sensible model to compare when local delivery, service, or price matters more than premium-brand features.
Its position is intentionally more cautious than a definitive “best” claim. Confirm current independent performance information, the exact dimensions, ENERGY STAR status, warranty, and local repair coverage before purchase.
10. Best side-by-side: KitchenAid KRSC703HPS
KitchenAid’s KRSC703HPS is a strong side-by-side candidate in comparison coverage, including a dual-evaporator design. Side-by-side refrigerators are particularly useful when a kitchen has a narrow walkway or limited door-swing clearance because both doors are relatively narrow.
The compromise is shelf width. Frozen pizzas, wide platters, and bulky containers can be harder to store in the tall, narrow compartments than in a French-door refrigerator.
Choose it if: door clearance and eye-level access to both fresh and frozen food matter most.
Skip it if: you routinely freeze wide packages or need the largest possible fresh-food shelves.
See the side-by-side comparison.
11. Best more-affordable Bosch alternative: Bosch B36CD52SNS
The Bosch B36CD52SNS is a useful alternative for shoppers drawn to Bosch’s fit, finish, and organization but who are comparing beyond the 800 Series. It appeared in 2026 buying-guide data and Bosch’s catalog.
Check availability carefully. A model being listed in a catalog does not guarantee local stock, a short delivery window, or nearby service.
12. Best value-oriented French-door candidate: Maytag MRFF4136RZ
The Maytag MRFF4136RZ is a value-oriented French-door option included in current 2026 buying-guide data. It may appeal to shoppers who want a conventional family refrigerator without moving into premium pricing.
Before calling it a bargain, compare the complete delivered cost: installation, water-line work, haul-away, sales tax, return terms, and any extended service plan. Also verify the current model-specific performance and service evidence rather than relying on brand reputation.
13. Best design-forward premium candidate: Café CGE29DM5TS5
The Café CGE29DM5TS5 is aimed at remodels where coordinated styling is a significant part of the purchase. It belongs in a premium design comparison, not a direct value contest with a basic top-freezer.
Pay for the appearance only if the installation and feature package fit your priorities. A distinctive finish does not improve temperature stability, usable capacity, or repairability by itself.
14. Best style-focused alternative: ZLINE RFM-W-36
The ZLINE RFM-W-36 is another design-led French-door alternative appearing in current buying-guide data. It may suit a kitchen where finish and visual identity carry unusual weight.

For many households, the best refrigerator is not a premium French-door model. ENERGY STAR says top-freezer refrigerators generally use the least energy among the main configurations, and appropriately sized models around 16–20 cubic feet are often among the most efficient choices.
Choose a specific model only after checking the current ENERGY STAR product finder for annual kWh, configuration, size, and certification. A smaller, simpler refrigerator can also be easier to service and less expensive to replace.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which refrigerator configuration is right?
| Configuration | Best for | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| French-door | Families and general-purpose kitchens | Wide fresh-food shelves and eye-level refrigerator storage | More doors and ice components; freezer drawers can become disorganized |
| Counter-depth French-door | Open-plan kitchens and flush cabinetry | Cleaner profile and easier reach into the rear | Less front-to-back storage; counter-depth varies by brand |
| Side-by-side | Narrow walkways | Narrow doors and eye-level freezer access | Vertical compartments and narrow shelves |
| Top-freezer | Value, simplicity, rentals, and efficiency | Often lower-cost and energy-efficient | Fresh food is lower; fewer premium layouts |
| Bottom-freezer | Households using fresh food most often | Refrigerator section stays at eye level | Freezer drawer organization varies |
| Four-door or flex-door | Flexible organization | Multiple temperature zones and compartments | Higher cost and more electronics |
| Built-in | High-end remodels | Integrated appearance and premium fit | Specialized installation, service, and cost |
| Column refrigerator/freezer | Fully custom kitchens | Maximum placement flexibility | Two appliances, custom cabinetry, and a very large budget |
What “counter-depth” really means
Counter-depth is a marketing category, not a universal dimension. A refrigerator may align with the cabinet boxes while its doors and handles project several additional inches into the room.
Measure and compare:
- Cabinet depth excluding doors and handles.
- Total appliance depth including doors and handles.
- Depth with the door open and drawers extended.
- Required rear ventilation clearance.
- Hinge-side and top clearance.
- Whether the unit will block an island or walkway.
- Advertised capacity versus practical usable space.
For example, Bosch lists the B36CT80SNS at 27 13/16 inches deep, but its required cutout is specified separately. That distinction is why a model can appear to fit on paper and still fail at installation.

How to judge refrigerator performance
Do not choose by finish, screen size, or star ratings alone. Compare the exact model on:
- Temperature stability: whether the refrigerator holds the selected temperature over time.
- Temperature uniformity: whether shelves and compartments remain reasonably consistent.
- Freezer performance: temperature control, organization, and usable width.
- Crisper performance: how well drawers manage produce conditions.
- Ice-making: output, storage location, and convenience.
- Noise: especially important in open-plan kitchens.
- Usable layout: shelf height, drawer access, door-bin space, and dividers.
- Energy use: annual kWh and current certification.
- Service: authorized technicians, parts access, and local coverage.
- Warranty: coverage for the exact model and purchase date.
Independent testing, owner surveys, and manufacturer specifications answer different questions. A manufacturer can document dimensions and features; a lab can measure temperature and noise; owners can reveal recurring service frustrations. None should automatically substitute for the others.
ENERGY STAR and refrigerator size
ENERGY STAR-certified refrigerators use efficiency features such as improved insulation, efficient compressors, and temperature and defrost controls. Certification is useful, but it is not a complete buying verdict.
Check the exact model’s annual kWh and multiply the difference by your local electricity rate. Also account for whether you will remove an old garage refrigerator or freezer. A certified refrigerator can still cost more to operate than a smaller certified model because larger units generally use more energy.
ENERGY STAR advises buying an appropriately sized appliance and notes that top-freezer models generally use the least energy. Do not label any model “energy-saving” without checking its current listing and specifications.
Are smart refrigerators worth it?
Connectivity is most useful when it solves a specific problem:
- Temperature alerts can warn you about a failed door seal or power interruption.
- Door-open notifications can help busy households.
- Remote diagnostics may make a service call more efficient.
Inventory cameras, recipe systems, voice assistants, large screens, and artificial-intelligence branding are optional conveniences. They do not automatically make a refrigerator better at preserving food. Consider Wi-Fi dependence, app changes, privacy, replacement cost, and the possibility that a cloud feature may become less useful over time.
If your priority is simplicity, low repair exposure, or no connected appliance in the kitchen, a non-smart model may be the better choice.
Ice and water: the practical trade-offs
- Internal water dispenser: preserves a cleaner exterior and often more door-storage space.
- External dispenser: convenient for frequent use but occupies door space and adds external hardware.
- Freezer ice maker: generally keeps the refrigerator compartment simpler.
- In-door ice maker: convenient, but may reduce storage and increase mechanical complexity.
- Dual ice makers: useful for parties and large families, but add components to maintain.
- Craft-ice systems: a specialty feature, not a reason to overbuy an otherwise poor-fitting refrigerator.
- No dispenser: the simplest option and often the best choice for maximum storage and fewer features.
These are design trade-offs, not guarantees that one configuration will fail or last longer than another.
How much capacity do you need?
Buy for your household’s habits, not the largest number on the showroom label. Consider:
- Household size.
- How often you shop.
- Bulk-store purchases.
- Need for wide platters or sheet pans.
- Frozen-food consumption.
- Whether a garage freezer already handles overflow.
- Whether door bins or interior shelves will carry most of the load.
Ice bins, drawers, dividers, water systems, and thick door mechanisms reduce practical storage. A smaller refrigerator with a usable layout can outperform a larger one in everyday organization.
Measure before you order: printable checklist
- Opening width at the narrowest point.
- Opening height, including hinge clearance and finished flooring.
- Cabinet depth.
- Total refrigerator depth with handles.
- Floor-to-ceiling clearance.
- Door-swing and drawer-extension clearance.
- Hinge-side wall clearance.
- Island and walkway clearance.
- Water-line location and shutoff access.
- Electrical outlet location.
- Delivery path through exterior doors, hallways, elevators, and stairs.
- Whether the retailer will remove the old appliance.
- Whether installation includes leveling and water-line work.
- Whether flooring, trim, or walls need protection.
A refrigerator can fit the opening and still fail delivery because a hallway, stair turn, elevator, or door frame is too narrow. Ask the retailer for written delivery and installation requirements before paying.
Common refrigerator-buying mistakes
- Ignoring the delivery route: measure the path, not just the cabinet opening.
- Trusting the listed depth: check handles, hinges, doors, and required clearance.
- Confusing gross capacity with usable capacity: inspect the interior layout.
- Choosing external ice and water automatically: decide whether convenience is worth lost door storage.
- Buying smart features for novelty: pay for alerts or diagnostics only if you will use them.
- Assuming ENERGY STAR means low operating cost: compare annual kWh and total size.
- Relying on brand reputation: reliability can vary by configuration and model.
- Using an undated sale price: record the finish, full model suffix, retailer, date, and installation costs.
- Skipping service research: a highly rated refrigerator is a poor choice if authorized repair is unavailable nearby.
Final decision guide
- Choose a top-freezer if low price, simplicity, and efficiency matter most.
- Choose a counter-depth French-door refrigerator if appearance and reach matter more than maximum capacity.
- Choose a side-by-side if door clearance is tight and you prefer eye-level freezer access.
- Choose a four-door model if flexible organization is worth additional cost and complexity.
- Choose a standard-depth French-door model if your household needs wide shelves and bulk capacity.
- Choose a built-in or column system only when the cabinetry, installation, service, and budget are planned around it.
Prices, rebates, model numbers, availability, finishes, warranty terms, and ENERGY STAR listings can change. Recheck the manufacturer page, certification database, dimensions, retailer installation terms, and local service coverage immediately before purchase.
