Do not assume every version of a processor includes the same attachments. Match capacity and feed tube to your batches
Choose bowl capacity according to the amount you usually prepare, and consider storage space on your counter or in a cupboard. How to grate cheese and vegetables safely
- Check your model’s instructions. Confirm which disc side to use, how to fit it, and which speed and feed tube apply. The Breville BFP820 US booklet is a 2020 manual; follow the current manual for your exact appliance and region.
- Prepare the food. Cut ingredients to fit the feed tube as directed by the manual. For firm produce, KitchenAid recommends using the food pusher rather than pushing by hand. Never reach into the feed tube while the processor is running.
- Keep cheese cold. KitchenAid recommends very cold firm cheese. For soft cheese such as mozzarella, it advises thoroughly freezing it to firm it up; its guidance says this may take several hours.
- Stop if the motor warms or shuts off. KitchenAid describes grating cheese as a high-energy operation. A thermal safety device may stop the motor until it cools. Follow the appliance manual’s instructions before restarting; do not force the motor to continue.
- Clean and store as directed. Follow the model-specific care instructions for removing, washing and storing the disc and other parts. Avoid assuming that a component is dishwasher-safe unless the manual says so.

What to check before purchasing a replacement disc
Replacement discs can be useful if your processor works well but lacks its grating attachment. Confirm the appliance’s full model identifier and the replacement part number with the manufacturer or an authorized parts source. Similar-looking discs may not fit or lock safely into another model, so do not buy a generic disc based only on its shape.
