It can be useful when recipes call for different slice sizes, but the control works only with a compatible slicing disc; it does not change the thickness produced by other blades or discs.
KitchenAid documents this feature on its 13-cup KFP1318 food processor. Other documented examples include a discontinued Breville model and a commercial Waring processor, whose specifications should not be treated as direct comparisons or current availability guarantees.
What an Adjustable Slicing Disc Does
The adjustment changes the slicing thickness produced by that compatible disc. The mechanism and available settings vary by model. KitchenAid says the external control on the KFP1318 works only with its externally adjustable Exact Slice disc; changing the control while using another disc or blade has no effect.
That makes the feature a way to select cut thickness, not proof that a processor is faster or produces better food. The research reviewed for this guide did not include independent performance testing or measured time savings.
#1 Best Overall
- Built-in bowl scraper saves time. Quickly process ingredients without stopping to use a spatula. Simply move the scraper from side-to-side to scrape the bowl while the food processor is running or the power is off — no need to remove the lid.
- Slice, shred, chop, mix and puree with 2 versatile attachments. The Hamilton Beach food processor gives you 5 processing functions and includes a stainless steel slicing/shredding disc and chopping/pureeing blade so you can tackle every job with ease.
- Powerful 450 watt motor. Make healthy salads, homemade salsa, hearty acai bowls and more. The 450 watt motor easily powers through the toughest ingredients, so you can spend less time processing and more time enjoying.
- Precise control with 2 speeds plus pulse. The low and high speeds plus pulse give you the control you need for a variety of recipes. Use the high speed when you need more power and select the low speed for processing or mixing delicate foods.
- 10 cup bowl capacity. The generous 10 cup bowl fits large volumes of food all at once, and the large feed chute saves you time by reducing the need to pre-cut food before processing or using as a vegetable chopper.

These manufacturer specifications describe different product classes and should not be read as a performance ranking. A setting count or thickness range alone does not establish which machine is best for a particular cook.
How to Compare Models

How to Adjust the KitchenAid KFP1318
KitchenAid’s instructions apply to the KFP1318 model family. Follow the manual for your exact model, and do not assume these steps apply to other processors.
- Use the finger grips to lower the externally adjustable slicing disc onto the drive pin.
- Set the thickness with the control lever.
- Lock the lid before operating the processor.
- If the slice is not the desired thickness, KitchenAid says the lever can be adjusted during operation.

What the Specifications Do—and Don’t—Show
The adjustment ranges and accessory details above come from manufacturer materials, not independent comparative testing. They can help you compare documented features, but they do not establish time saved, slice consistency, durability, or comparative safety. No market statistics or quantified time-saving results were established in the research reviewed for this article.
For example, KitchenAid’s product page describes its KFP1318 as having an externally adjustable Exact Slice disc “from thick to thin.” That is manufacturer product language, not an independent test result.

Does the adjustment control change the thickness for every blade?
No. KitchenAid explicitly says the KFP1318’s external control works only with its externally adjustable slicing disc. Check the documentation for other models.
