If you travel between places with different mains voltages, choose a kettle whose exact voltage rating covers your destination—and check whether it switches automatically or needs a manual selector. A plug adapter only addresses plug shape; it does not make an incompatible kettle voltage-safe. The six manufacturer-listed models below range from 0.4 L to 0.85 L, with different controls, power ratings and travel accessories. Their listings establish specifications, not independently tested performance or a universal best performer.

What to check before choosing a dual-voltage travel kettle

  1. Match the supply voltage. Read the rating for the exact model and confirm it includes the destination’s mains supply. “Dual voltage” can mean two selectable ranges or automatic adjustment across a broader range.
  2. Check how voltage is selected. For a manual selector, set it as the manufacturer directs before plugging in. Never assume a kettle detects voltage automatically.
  3. Check the plug and grounding separately. A plug adapter changes the physical connection, not the voltage. Follow the kettle manual’s requirements for adapters and grounding; confirm the adapter suits both the destination socket and the appliance.
  4. Match capacity and power to your trip. These listings span 0.4–0.85 L and 420 W or more to 1 kW. A smaller kettle may suit solo use and luggage limits; capacity and stated wattage alone do not establish comparative boil time.
  5. Weigh the travel details. Foldability, packed dimensions, weight, included cups, a bag and shutoff protections differ. Availability can also vary by region and date.

How the listed models compare

Specifications below come from the manufacturers’ or seller’s product pages, which are undated listings accessed in 2026. They do not establish independent performance results or universal availability.

Model Voltage and selection Capacity and stated power Travel details
Dretec PO-168 Manual selector: 100–120 V or 220–240 V 0.6 L; 570–820 W at 100–120 V and 680–820 W at 220–240 V Foldable; 585 g; boil shutoff. Dretec says a conversion adapter with ground terminal is required when overseas outlet shapes differ. The white model is marked discontinued.
Russell Hobbs Travel Kettle 23840-70 Universal voltage, 120–240 V 0.85 L; 1 kW Concealed element, removable washable filter, two cups and spoons, dry-boil protection.
Wilfa Kok Travel TK-1000 120/230 V; voltage can be regulated 0.5 L; 1000 W Stainless steel, auto-off, travel bag, two cups and spoons, small container.
Kenwood Discovery JKP250 Dual voltage for 120 V and 240 V countries 0.5 L; wattage not stated on the cited Kenwood Malaysia page Locking hinged lid, water window, two cups and spoons; the regional page describes a compact travel design.
PowerPac PPJ2024 Automatic 100–240 V switching 0.6 L; 480–750 W Foldable, US plug, auto shutoff and boil-dry/overheat protection. The seller says this model is not required to carry Singapore’s Safety Mark; that does not establish its certification status in other markets.
Yazawa TVR71KTWH Manual selection: 100–130 V or 220–240 V 0.4 L maximum; 420 W or more at 100–130 V and 550 W or more at 220–240 V Boil-dry prevention. Yazawa warns not to use the 100–130 V setting on a 220–240 V supply.

Choosing among automatic and selectable models

For automatic voltage adjustment

The PowerPac PPJ2024 listing describes automatic switching across 100–240 V, so it avoids a user-operated voltage selector. Its page lists a US plug, which still needs to be compatible with the destination socket through an appropriate adapter where necessary. The seller’s statement about Singapore’s Safety Mark is specific: it says the model is not required to carry that mark, and does not confirm certification elsewhere.

For a manual selector

Dretec and Yazawa list distinct voltage ranges selected by switch. They require the traveler to confirm the destination supply and set the correct range. Yazawa explicitly warns against using its 100–130 V setting on 220–240 V mains. Dretec’s page also specifies a conversion adapter with ground terminal when the overseas outlet shape differs.

For listed dual-voltage travel designs

Russell Hobbs lists universal 120–240 V operation, while Wilfa lists 120/230 V with regulated voltage. Kenwood describes dual voltage for 120 V and 240 V countries. Check each exact kettle’s markings and instructions for the destination rather than treating all three descriptions as identical switching mechanisms.

Which specifications matter most for your trip?

Capacity and power

The smallest listed capacity is Yazawa’s 0.4 L maximum; Russell Hobbs lists the largest at 0.85 L. The other four models are 0.5 L or 0.6 L. Stated power differs by model and, for Dretec and Yazawa, by voltage range. These figures are manufacturer-listed specifications, not a reliable basis for predicting a specific boil time across different kettles or conditions.

  • 4 Temperature Presets & Real-Time LCD – 122°F for baby formula, 175°F for tea, 195°F for coffee, 212°F for boiling. The portable travel kettle's LCD screen shows the live temperature, and the 4-color LED light strip (blue/purple/yellow/red) tells you the heat level at a glance.
  • Complete Travel Kit – The dual voltage travel kettle includes a detachable power cord, handy cleaning brush, and sleek storage bag. Improved vent holes, a tight-sealing lid, and non-slip base for safe daily use. A thoughtful gift for travelers, students, and busy professionals.

Packability and included items

Dretec and PowerPac explicitly list foldable designs. Dretec publishes a weight of 585 g; the cited listings for other models do not establish comparable weights. Wilfa includes a travel bag, two cups and spoons, and a small container; Russell Hobbs lists two cups and spoons, as do Wilfa and Kenwood. Consider whether accessories are useful enough to justify their luggage space.

Shutoff and boil-dry protections

Features listed include boil shutoff for Dretec, auto-off for Wilfa, dry-boil protection for Russell Hobbs, auto shutoff and boil-dry/overheat protection for PowerPac, and boil-dry prevention for Yazawa. Kenwood’s cited regional page lists a locking hinged lid but does not state a shutoff or boil-dry feature. Feature labels are not a substitute for following the model’s operating instructions.

Voltage and plug safety: a practical check

  • Read the voltage range printed on the kettle and in its manual; do not rely on the product category name alone.
  • If the model has a selector, set it to the correct range before connecting it. Do not plug in a setting that falls outside the destination supply.
  • Confirm whether the destination socket accepts the kettle plug. If not, use only an adapter appropriate to the plug, socket and grounding instructions.
  • Do not expect a travel plug adapter to convert voltage. A voltage converter is a separate device and is not a substitute for using an appliance within its stated rating.
  • For Dretec PO-168, follow Dretec’s instruction that a conversion adapter with ground terminal is required where overseas outlet shapes differ. Confirm grounding compatibility rather than removing or bypassing the ground connection.

Availability and regional qualifications

The Dretec product page marks the white PO-168 discontinued. The other manufacturer or seller pages cited here do not establish that a model is currently stocked everywhere or available in every region. Confirm the exact model number, plug type, voltage instructions and local listing before purchase. Product specifications can vary between regional variants.
