There is no established detergent brand that cleans best in every Miele dishwasher. Choose a domestic-dishwasher detergent in the format that suits your load and dosing preference, and use PowerDisk only if your dishwasher has AutoDos. Miele recommends dispensing detergent, salt and rinse aid separately for optimum results; check your model’s manual and local water-hardness guidance before changing your setup.
Which detergent format should you choose?
Miele’s G7760 operating instructions say powder and liquid gel let you adjust the dose to the load and how dirty the dishes are, while tabs suit most levels of soiling. These are format recommendations, not evidence that one brand outperforms another.

Miele’s UK domestic range lists dishwasher powder, PowerDisk granulate, UltraTabs, salt and rinse aid. Its descriptions establish what it sells and which machines PowerDisk is for, not comparative cleaning results. Do you need separate salt and rinse aid?
Miele recommends using detergent, salt and rinse aid separately for optimum cleaning and drying. An all-in-one tablet does not guarantee that separate additives are unnecessary: combination products vary, and Miele directs users to the package’s water-hardness guidance. The G7760 manual’s recommendation is for that model family, so consult the manual for your own machine.

- Dishwasher salt supports the machine’s water softener. Miele says it is indispensable particularly in hard water at or above 21 °dH; that threshold is Miele Germany’s June 2026 manufacturer guidance, not an independent test result. Miele Germany chemistry explainer.
- Rinse aid helps water drain evenly, supports drying and reduces spots and streaks, according to Miele. Whether you need to add it separately depends on your water, detergent and model settings.
Miele USA lists both a PowerDisk All in 1 Eco set for AutoDos dishwashers and an All in One set containing UltraTabs, salt and rinse aid. Those are US product listings, not evidence of availability in every market. PowerDisk All in 1 Eco and All in One detergent set.
Why detergent ingredients and programs matter
Miele chemist Joerg Kinnius explains that dishwasher detergents use surfactants to lift grease and food residue, enzymes to break down protein and starch, and oxygen bleach to address discolouration such as tea and coffee stains. Miele recommends the ECO program for normally soiled everyday dishes and says quick programs suit lightly soiled items needed promptly. These are the manufacturer’s program guidelines, not independent comparative findings. Follow the guidance and program options in your model’s manual.

A salt or rinse-aid light does not always mean the detergent is unsuitable. Miele UK notes that the salt indicator can remain lit briefly after refilling while the salt dissolves. Miele UK indicator guidance.
If you use combination tabs, Miele support advises selecting the X-in-1 function if your dishwasher offers it. Miele UK also points to a 55-degree or Automatic program; on models without the combination-product function, an indicator may remain lit. Miele USA likewise says a lit indicator can be normal when that function is unavailable and advises keeping enough separate salt and rinse aid for the softener to work. How to make the choice
- Check your dishwasher’s model manual and whether it has AutoDos.
- Choose powder or gel if adjustable dosing matters; consider tabs for pre-portioned convenience.
- For AutoDos, confirm that the specific PowerDisk product is compatible with your machine.
- Use your local water-hardness information and the detergent package to decide whether separate salt and rinse aid are appropriate.
- For repeated spots, poor drying or residue, review rinse-aid and softener settings alongside detergent choice rather than assuming the brand is the cause.
