Conveyor models suit a continuous-feed workflow; a pop-up toaster uses individual slots. The options below are manufacturer-documented examples, not independently tested rankings, and their stated capacities do not share a verified testing method.
How to choose a commercial toaster
Start with the service workflow
A conveyor toaster moves food through the appliance, which may fit a kitchen handling a steady stream of orders. A pop-up model is loaded into individual slots, a different workflow that may suit smaller or more intermittent batches. These are selection considerations, not a guarantee that one type will be faster or better for every operation.
Estimate peak demand, not just average demand
Use the busiest service period to determine the output your team needs, and check what the manufacturer’s capacity figure actually describes. Hatco rates its TQ3-500 at up to 500 slices per hour, while Waring lists up to 450 slices per hour for the CTS1000. Those are manufacturer specifications; the reviewed product pages do not establish a shared test method or comparable operating conditions, so the figures should not be treated as a head-to-head performance test.
Check food dimensions and controls
Measure the thickest bread or bagel the kitchen expects to toast and compare it with the opening or slot dimensions. Consider as well whether operators would benefit from programmable settings, conveyor speed control, standby or power-save modes, and removable crumb collection.

Confirm site fit and product status
Before ordering, verify counter space, electrical service, installation requirements, service access, lead time, and local support with the manufacturer or dealer. Match voltage, amperage, wattage, and plug type to the intended site documentation rather than assuming a standard outlet will work. Check the current specification sheet and availability for the exact model.
