For most US households, the Ninja Foodi DZ550 is the strongest all-round choice because its two independently controlled baskets, 10-quart quoted capacity and integrated temperature probe cover family meals well. Choose the COSORI TurboBlaze for a less expensive single-basket machine, the COSORI Iconic for premium materials and a longer stated warranty, or the Ninja Crispi when portable glass containers matter more than batch size. Prices and regional versions change, so verify the exact model before buying.
Quick recommendations
| Model | Best for | Format and quoted capacity | Key features | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ninja Foodi DZ550 | Overall and family cooking | Dual basket, 10 qt total | Independent zones, synchronized finishing, Smart Cook thermometer, six functions | Wide footprint; each basket is narrower than a single large drawer |
| COSORI TurboBlaze | Value single basket | Single basket, 6 qt | 90–450°F range, ceramic-coated basket and crisper plate, dishwasher-safe parts | No second zone or meat probe |
| COSORI Iconic | Premium construction | Single basket, 6.5 qt | Stainless-steel structure, tempered glass, PFAS-free ceramic cooking surfaces (manufacturer claim), app functions, five-year stated warranty | High price; materials do not guarantee proportionally better browning |
| Ninja Crispi | Portable, glass-based cooking | PowerPod with glass containers; packages include different container sizes | Four cooking functions, cooking and storage in the glass vessels | Small batches; unsuitable for regular family-size production |
| Instant Vortex Plus 6QT | Conventional everyday use | Single basket, 6 qt | Simple controls, dishwasher-safe nonstick parts on the listed version | Less differentiated; features vary by exact version |
These recommendations synthesize current US-oriented testing from RTINGS, plus comparative testing and reviews from Good Housekeeping, Tom’s Guide and The Guardian. UK guides such as BBC Good Food use different model numbers, plugs and prices.
Which air fryer should you buy?
Choose the Ninja Foodi DZ550 for two foods at once
RTINGS names the DZ550 its best air fryer, citing the 10-quart dual-basket layout and performance. Its Smart Cook System and thermometer can guide chicken, steak or pork to a target doneness, while independent temperature and time settings let a protein and side finish together. The official US page lists a $249.99 reference price, a $179.99 sale signal and a one-year limited warranty; treat those figures as volatile.
Its limitation is geometry: two baskets divide the cooking area. A 10-quart total does not mean one uninterrupted 10-quart surface, so a wide roast or a single layer of vegetables may fit better in a 6-quart single basket.

Choose the COSORI TurboBlaze for value
The TurboBlaze is a straightforward 6-quart single-basket option. COSORI lists 1,725 watts, a 90–450°F temperature range, one-minute-to-24-hour timing, and dishwasher-safe ceramic-coated basket and crisper plate. The official page showed a $119.99 list price and a $94.99 promotional signal. Its single open cooking area is often easier to load for fries, wings or vegetables than a divided dual-zone machine.
Choose the COSORI Iconic for materials and warranty
The Iconic combines a stainless-steel structure, tempered glass, five fan speeds and app functions. COSORI states that specified cooking surfaces are PFAS-free ceramic-coated and gives a five-year limited warranty; those are manufacturer claims about identified parts, not proof of superior nutrition or browning. The listed retail price is $249, making the TurboBlaze the more economical choice when finish and warranty length are secondary.
Choose the Ninja Crispi for portability and storage
The Crispi uses a portable PowerPod and glass cooking containers that can move from cooking to serving or storage. Ninja describes the glassware as PFAS-free. Package sizes and prices differ; official results showed roughly $159.99/$179.99 for one configuration and $189.99 for another. It is a poor fit for large batches, two simultaneous dishes or anyone wanting a conventional deep basket.

| Single basket | Dual basket |
|---|---|
| One wider, uninterrupted cooking surface; usually simpler to wash and cheaper. | Two foods can use different temperatures and times, with synchronized finishing. |
| Best when meals are one food or one batch. | Useful for a main and side, but each zone may be narrow. |
| Often easier to fit a large single item. | More counter width, more parts to store and potentially less usable area than the total quart number suggests. |
RTINGS’ capacity guidance emphasizes basket surface area, not just quarts. Crowding either format blocks airflow and produces pale or soft food; two smaller batches can beat one overloaded “large” basket.
How much capacity do you really need?
- One or two people: a compact 3–4-quart class machine can work if you accept smaller batches.
- Three or four people: a 6-quart single basket is a practical starting point, but recipe shape matters.
- Family meals with different foods: a 9–10-quart dual-zone model adds scheduling flexibility, not one giant cooking surface.
Judge capacity by the amount that fits in a single layer. Frozen fries, wings and vegetables crisp more evenly when spread out, even if that means cooking twice.

- AIR CRISP TECHNOLOGY: 400℉ superheated air surrounds food for hot, crispy results with little to no oil.
- 4-IN-1 FUNCTIONALITY: Features 4 customizable cooking functions—Air Fry, Roast, Reheat, and Dehydrate for maximum versatility. A powerful1750-watt air fryer that’s built for everyday use.
- LARGE CAPACITY: The 5-QT nonstick basket and crisper plate fit up to 4 lbs of French fries or 5 lbs of chicken wings.
- GUILT-FREE FRIED FOODS: Up to 75% less fat than traditional air frying methods. Tested against hand-cut, deep-fried French fries.
- FROZEN TO CRISPY: Cook frozen foods in just minutes for an extra-crispy finish.
What performance differences matter?
A useful evaluation should cook actual food rather than count presets. A repeatable set includes frozen fries for browning, fresh wedges for oil distribution and shaking, wings for fat rendering, breaded foods for coating adhesion, vegetables for moisture and char, salmon or chicken breast for drying, pizza and leftovers for reheating, bacon for grease handling, and a simple cake for temperature control. Unless a publication physically ran these tests, treat them as a proposed protocol rather than a reported result.
Published times are starting points. Food temperature, thickness, load, basket design, voltage, preheating and shaking all change the result. “Fast” claims such as COSORI’s stated comparison should be read as manufacturer marketing, not an independent category-wide measurement.
Does an air fryer use way less fat?
Usually it uses much less added cooking oil than deep-frying because hot air replaces a bath of oil. A light spray or brush can improve browning. That does not make every air-fried food low-fat or low-calorie: frozen products may already contain oil, and breading, portion size and the food itself still determine nutrition. The defensible comparison is “often lower in added frying oil,” not a universal percentage or blanket health claim. Manufacturer language on the Instant product page should be interpreted in that narrower sense.

- SEPARATE HEATING ZONES: 2 independent 4-quart zones have their own cooking baskets, cyclonic fans, and rapid heaters.
- EASY CLEANING: Easy-to-clean baskets and dishwasher-safe crisper plates.
Cleaning, materials and ownership
- Confirm which basket and crisper parts are dishwasher-safe; TurboBlaze and DZ550 official pages identify those parts, but repeated dishwasher cycles can shorten coating life.
- Wipe grease from corners and the heating area. Fatty bacon, sausages and chicken skin can smoke when residue accumulates.
- Check replacement basket and plate availability and cost before buying.
- Nonstick, ceramic, stainless steel and glass are different trade-offs. Ceramic can scratch, glass is heavier and breakable, and stainless steel can still surround a coated cooking surface.
- “PFAS-free” and “BPA-free” apply only to the parts and claims specified by the manufacturer.
Counter space, controls and smart features
Measure width, depth and height with the basket fully open. Follow the manual’s vent clearances and do not assume a unit is safe directly beneath cabinets. Check where hot air and steam discharge.
Look for manual temperature adjustment, readable controls, shake reminders and sensible pause behavior when a basket is removed. The TurboBlaze’s stated 90–450°F range covers low-temperature work such as dehydration and high-heat browning. A probe is valuable for thick chicken breasts, steaks and pork, but adds parts and complexity and does nothing for toast, vegetables or reheating.

Uneven or soft food
- Reduce the load and leave space around pieces.
- Shake or turn at the recipe’s halfway point.
- Dry wet surfaces and cut pieces to similar sizes.
- Check that the crisper plate is installed and not blocked.
Smoke
Stop and clean accumulated grease; reduce excess oil and follow the manual. Abnormal smoke, sparking or an electrical smell is a reason to discontinue use and seek manufacturer support.

Preheat uncertainty
There is no universal rule. Frozen foods may work without preheating, while preheating can improve browning and timing consistency. State whether a recipe’s time assumes a preheated basket.
