Belkin shut down Wemo cloud services and app support for selected products on January 31, 2026. Affected owners lost Wemo-app control, remote access, Alexa and Google Home integrations, technical support, and software updates. The hardware was not necessarily physically “bricked”: some devices may still work manually, while certain models that were configured with Apple HomeKit before the deadline may continue operating locally.
Four Thread-based Wemo products were listed by Belkin as unaffected. The decisive step is to identify your device’s model number—not just its product name.
Check your Wemo model first
Find the model number on the device, its packaging, or your original purchase records. Similar product names can have different outcomes: the Wemo Mini Smart Plug appears as both WSP070 and WSP080, while the Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way appears as both WLS0403 and WLS0503.

Affected models that may still work through existing HomeKit setups
Belkin’s affected list marks these models as HomeKit-compatible:
- WLS0403 — Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way
- WDS060 — Wemo Wi-Fi Smart Light Switch with Dimmer
- WLS040 — Wemo Smart Light Switch
- F7C064 — Wemo HomeKit Bridge
- F7C059 — Wemo Dimmer Light Switch
- F7C063 — Wemo Mini Plugin Switch
- WSP090 — Wemo Outdoor Plug
- WSP080 — Wemo Mini Smart Plug
They may continue operating locally in Apple’s Home app only if they were added to HomeKit before January 31, 2026. “HomeKit-compatible” does not mean unaffected, and it does not guarantee that a reset or failed pairing can be recovered now.

A plug may still pass power, and a wall switch may still operate at the wall, even though its smart features are gone. The more accurate description is that affected products lost their supported smart-home control layer—not that every unit became electrically unusable.

What HomeKit owners should do
- Open Apple’s Home app and test the device locally.
- If it works, avoid factory-resetting it unless absolutely necessary.
- Do not remove a working accessory from HomeKit merely to try adding it again.
- Remember that HomeKit does not restore the Wemo app, Alexa, Google Home, remote access, or future firmware support.
Belkin says new setup or reconfiguration through the Wemo app or HomeKit is no longer possible after the shutdown. It does not promise indefinite operation or a replacement pairing path for previously configured devices.
Could you qualify for a refund?
Belkin says a Wemo product that was still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may be eligible for a refund. Eligibility is not automatic. Belkin requires proof of purchase, and the support notice does not state one universal refund amount.

This information is based on Belkin’s U.S. support process. Warranty rights, retailer remedies, and consumer-protection rules may differ elsewhere. Use the official Wemo end-of-support claim form, and keep the device and purchase documentation until Belkin responds.
What owners should do now
- Record the model number.
- Compare it with Belkin’s affected and unaffected lists.
- Test any existing HomeKit configuration without resetting the device.
- Assume Wemo-app, Alexa, and Google Home controls are no longer supported for affected models.
- Check the purchase date, warranty terms, region, and proof-of-purchase records.
- Submit a claim if the product may have been under warranty on the cutoff date.
- Replace devices that have lost essential smart functionality and cannot use an existing HomeKit setup.
- Recycle nonfunctional electronics through an authorized e-waste program rather than household trash.

- Plugs: distinguish basic on/off, energy monitoring, outdoor-rated, and high-load models.
- Switches: verify neutral-wire requirements, single-pole versus three-way wiring, load type, and electrical-code requirements.
- Dimmers: confirm that the load and bulbs are dimmer-compatible. Do not use a dimming plug with a heater, fan, or appliance unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it.
- Bulbs: decide whether you want inexpensive Wi-Fi bulbs or a hub-based lighting system.
- Cameras and monitors: check storage, subscription, privacy, and local-recording policies.
- Connectivity: Matter, Thread, or documented local control can reduce—but cannot completely eliminate—the risk of future platform changes.
Common replacement ecosystems include Lutron Caséta for in-wall switches and dimmers, TP-Link Kasa and Tapo for a broad range of Wi-Fi products, Leviton Decora Smart for switches and plugs, and Philips Hue for lighting. Their protocol, hub, compatibility, and local-control trade-offs vary by model; verify current specifications and availability before purchasing.
The broader smart-home lesson
A smart-home product can remain physically functional while losing its app, automations, voice control, and remote access when a manufacturer retires its servers. Before expanding an ecosystem, check whether it supports local control, Matter or Thread, physical operation, and a clearly documented support policy. No standard guarantees that a vendor will continue supporting every product indefinitely.
For the exact current status of a Wemo device, Belkin’s model-specific support notice should take priority over product names, marketplace listings, or third-party replacement guides.
