The October 20, 2025 ArchDaily feature is a photographic survey of selected practices—not a census or ranking—and asks each one, “What makes for a good office space and office culture for you?”
Why photograph architecture offices?
Goodwin is an architectural photographer, writer and teacher whose Architecture Studios Atlas documents the interiors and everyday life of architecture and design practices around the world. The Belgium feature brings that wider project into focus through individual workplaces: not just backdrops to finished buildings, but environments shaped around design and daily routines. Goodwin’s Atlas and profile provide the broader context for the series.

ArchDaily’s feature, written by Reyyan Dogan and published October 20, 2025, visits practices in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent. It includes B-architecten, POLO.platform, Binst Architects, Studio Okami, Stand Van Zaken and Bruno Spaas Architectuur. Its reported details about staff numbers, time in a studio and building histories are snapshots from that feature, not independently verified current business information. Read the ArchDaily feature.

A recurring thread is adaptive reuse: several practices work in buildings associated with earlier purposes, including a former cinema, horticultural space, diamond-cutting workshop, storage facility and fabric depot. That history gives the offices another dimension. The rooms are not simply designed interiors; they also carry traces of the uses that came before.

The feature’s photographs and descriptions connect each setting to a particular practice rather than suggesting a single formula for an architecture office. A building’s previous life may inform its character, while the studio’s own arrangement and routines determine how it functions now.
Different ideas of a good workplace
The practices describe workplace culture in their own terms. Studio Okami calls its office “a home office away from home, with all the comforts of leisure but with the focus on work.” BRUT Architecture and Urban Design describes a good office as one that balances aesthetics and function, allows people to sit and move calmly, and supports healthy social interaction. These are the practices’ perspectives as reproduced by ArchDaily, not universal findings about workplace design.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Compact and Lightweight: Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces. The 1/4" impact driver has a length of 5.55 in. and weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the 1/2" drill/driver measures only 7.5 in. and weighs 3.6 lbs
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and electric drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
- Power drill cordless with 1/2" single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength, making bit changes faster and more secure
Across the selected offices, the feature surfaces several contrasting priorities: a home-like atmosphere, an atelier or collective sensibility, openness balanced with places to retreat, and the role of shared meals or greenery. The point is not that every studio needs the same amenities. Rather, the offices make visible how different practices interpret the relationship between concentration, collaboration and everyday comfort.
Reading the offices side by side
Location, reported scale, building history and stated workplace values offer useful ways to compare the examples without ranking them. For instance, ArchDaily reported 60 staff for B-architecten’s Antwerp office and 83 for POLO.platform’s Antwerp studio in its October 20, 2025 feature. Those figures describe the feature’s snapshot; they should not be read as current headcounts.

Goodwin’s photographs make this comparison spatial. The question is not only what a workplace looks like, but how its layout and atmosphere relate to the building it occupies and the work the practice says it wants to do. A former industrial or commercial space can provide a distinctive setting, while a studio’s approach to openness, retreat or communal life shapes how that setting is used.

Belgium’s featured studios are a selection of practices and moments in time. The project does not establish an objective best office or claim to represent every architecture firm in the country. Its value is more particular: it documents the places where selected practices work, preserves details of buildings with varied histories, and lets the studios articulate what makes those places suit them.
