A CFNR Network headline says local businesses take issue with the route, but the accessible report does not establish which businesses are involved, what they object to or how BC Hydro has responded.
What is happening on the project now?
BC Hydro’s October–December 2026 construction update describes several kinds of planned work for Phase 1. These are the utility’s work plans and anticipated effects, not independent observations of activity at every site. See BC Hydro’s North Coast Transmission Line construction activities page.

- Clearing, access work and right-of-way preparation in selected areas.
- Geotechnical investigations, engineering, environmental and forestry work, and surveying.
- Site preparation at Williston Substation and Saranovich Capacitor Station.
- Moving worker-accommodation units from the John Horgan Dam and Generating Station, formerly Site C, to a site near Vanderhoof, and developing accommodation and a laydown yard there.
- Project-office work in Prince George.
BC Hydro says people near work areas may encounter more construction traffic, noise and dust, as well as temporary traffic disruption or changes to access. Those general anticipated effects do not establish the nature of any particular business’s route complaint.
What construction involves
BC Hydro describes preparation as clearing the right-of-way and access roads, upgrading or building roads, and making any needed line realignments. Line construction includes tower foundations, tower erection and wire stringing. The utility says disturbed sites will be reclaimed after construction.
#1 Best Overall
- Intricate Design: Highly detailed miniature electric tower model with an intricate lattice structure and multiple platforms.
- Realistic Appearance: Meticulously crafted to resemble a real-life high-tension transmission tower used for power lines.
- Sturdy Construction: Made from durable materials to maintain structural integrity and stability.
- Versatile Display: Can be showcased on a desk, shelf, or as part of a larger diorama or model scene.
- Dimensions: Measures approximately dimensions in 5 inches in 12 height, ensuring a visually striking presence.
Copper River Forest Service Road notice
BC Hydro also described a bridge replacement at the 6.5-kilometre mark on Copper River Forest Service Road, about 9 kilometres east of Terrace. Its notice said work was expected to continue through mid-October 2026 and could involve delays, alternating single-lane traffic and road closures. A September 29 notice referred to a full closure expected October 5, 2026; that date had passed as of October 9, so it should not be treated as an upcoming closure. Check the construction page for current notices.
What is known about businesses’ route concerns?
The CFNR Network headline says “local businesses take issue with route,” but the accessible search result did not provide the underlying report’s details. It does not establish the businesses’ names or locations, which route segment they mean, what impacts they allege, or BC Hydro’s response. The headline alone is not enough to characterize the dispute or identify an alternative alignment. The report is not available at CFNR Network in the accessible material.

- REALISTIC SIMULATION || Clearly demonstrates why electrical power is stepped up to thousands of volts for long-distance transmission and stepped down at the consumer end.
- STEP UP & STEP DOWN TRANSFORMERS || Includes built-in transformers that easily switch in and out of circuit, effectively showing power loss differences with and without voltage transformation.
- MEASURABLE OUTPUTS || Use multimeters (not included) to measure currents and voltages at the power station, across transmission lines, and at the consumer load for quantitative analysis of energy loss.
- SAFE & COMPACT || Provides a safe, low-voltage demonstration suitable for classroom instruction, clearly illustrating complex power grid concepts without hazard.
- IDEAL EDUCATIONAL TOOL || Enhances understanding of electrical engineering principles, energy conservation, and efficiency within power distribution systems. Please note a 16VAC 500mA AC/AC external wall adapter is required but not included.
Accordingly, it would be misleading to attribute the concern to property impacts, access, business operations or environmental effects without the businesses’ own statements. Nor should the utility’s general warning about possible traffic and access changes be presented as the specific complaint. The available information also does not establish whether any route alternative is under consideration.

BC Hydro describes the project as two phases: Phase 1 is an approximately 165-kilometre, 500-kilovolt line from Prince George to Glenannan near Fraser Lake; Phase 2 is approximately 275 kilometres from Glenannan to Terrace. The utility says the project is intended to support growing regional electricity demand, economic development and customers’ use of clean electricity. It also describes an opportunity for First Nations co-ownership of Phases 1 and 2. More context is available on BC Hydro’s project overview.

In a September 3, 2026 release, the Government of British Columbia said Phase 1 is expected to be complete by mid-2030 and Phase 2 construction is anticipated to begin in 2027, with completion expected by winter 2032. These are announced expectations, not guaranteed delivery dates. The release quotes Premier David Eby describing the line as a “generational project” intended to support clean growth and jobs, and BC Hydro president and CEO Charlotte Mitha saying it will prepare the system for growing demand as industry and communities expand. Those are official statements, not independent assessments of local effects. Read the provincial announcement.

BC Hydro estimates approximately 1,400 jobs at peak construction across Phases 1 and 2. Separately, the provincial government projects that industrial projects supported by the line could account for approximately 9,700 direct full-time jobs once those projects are complete, nearly $10 billion per year in provincial GDP contribution and about $950 million in annual provincial and municipal revenue. The latter figures are government projections about supported industrial projects, not construction employment or verified outcomes. BC Hydro’s jobs and business opportunities information also says procurement dates are subject to change.
