It is designed around traditional quartersawn oak, with cherry offered as an alternative. The plan includes construction directions, patterns and a materials list; you can choose a paper or downloadable plan, while an optional kit is described as supplying electrical hardware and mica sheets.
What the plan builds
This is a framed Arts & Crafts-style lamp, not WOOD’s separate lantern-base lamp with stained-glass construction. The project’s wooden structure supports mica shade panels, and copper pine-cone motifs provide the decorative accents. WOOD’s project page describes the design and build sequence in its Arts & Crafts Table Lamp Woodworking Plan (updated June 13, 2023).
Woodcraft’s paper-plan listing gives approximate finished dimensions of 7 inches wide at the base and 14 inches high. These are approximate listing dimensions, not a substitute for the plan’s drawings and measurements. The source is the Wood Magazine Paper Plan – Arts & Crafts Table Lamp.
How the build is organized
The directions progress from the base and post to the shade supports, corbels and cap. The shade frame is assembled with half laps; the plan then covers wood finishing and fitting the mica panels. Its described work includes several distinct woodworking operations:

The operations imply a need for suitable drilling, sawing and routing capabilities, but the project source does not require a particular tool brand or model. The plan’s finishing sequence mentions optional stain and three coats of clear finish, with sanding between coats. Its named oil-based ZAR stain examples are historical instructions, not a current product recommendation.
Choose the wood and source the parts
Quartersawn oak or cherry
WOOD identifies quartersawn oak as the traditional choice and cherry as an option for coordinating with existing furniture. The source does not compare their cost, performance or finishing results, so choose based on the look you want and the furniture the lamp needs to complement.

Materials and optional kit
Named components include wood, mica sheets, electrical hardware, copper pine-cone motifs, clear silicone caulk, stain and clear finish. WOOD says an optional project kit includes electrical hardware and mica sheets, which may simplify sourcing those components. The description does not establish that the kit contains every material needed; check its contents and availability before ordering.
Both Woodcraft plan listings specify that building materials are not included with the plan. Plan and materials are separate purchases, whether you choose paper or download.

What to check before starting
- Use the plan itself for exact measurements, cut-list quantities and patterns. Its source material confirms these are included, but the approximate retail dimensions are not a complete cut list.
- Confirm the full contents and current availability of any kit; the project description identifies electrical hardware and mica sheets, not a complete bill of materials.
- Keep this design separate from WOOD’s Arts and Crafts Lamp with Lantern Base Woodworking Plan. That is a different project, with stained-glass construction and listed dimensions of 7-3/8 by 7-3/8 inches and 13-1/2 inches tall less the shade, according to WOOD Store’s listing updated January 16, 2024.
