Apple announced its next-generation “Siri AI” at WWDC on June 8, 2026, and says those capabilities are planned for the fall. Reports now point to a possible late-2026 launch for the hub, but Apple has not announced the device, its name, price, specifications, or release date.
What has actually been delayed?
The delayed product is a reported new Apple smart-home display or hub—not the HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV currently sold by Apple.

Reports describe a device with a roughly 7-inch square display, a speaker base, and possibly a wall-mounted version. It may show photos, control smart-home accessories, support music and FaceTime, and use a camera or facial recognition to personalize information. Bloomberg-related reporting has described it as a central command device for Apple’s home ecosystem.

Why is Siri holding it up?
The rumored device is reportedly designed to be more than a touchscreen remote with a speaker. Its appeal depends on Siri understanding natural-language requests, recognizing who is speaking, accessing relevant personal information, and controlling several devices or apps in context.
There is a major difference between a traditional command and the type of interaction Apple appears to be targeting:
- Basic Siri: “Turn off the kitchen lights.”
- More ambitious Siri: “Turn off the lights downstairs, play something relaxing, and remind me when the kids’ practice starts.”
The second request requires language understanding, access to personal context, permission management, cross-app actions, reliable smart-home orchestration, and fast responses. A device installed in a central room also has to behave predictably when several people, rooms, devices, and schedules are involved.
Bloomberg reported that Apple’s Siri upgrade encountered testing and engineering problems, with its timetable shifting across software releases. That does not necessarily mean one isolated bug stopped hardware production. More likely, the reported delay reflects a dependency chain: Apple wants the hub’s defining software experience to be ready before launching the hardware.
What does “updating Siri is hard” mean in practice?
For a home-control assistant, an impressive demonstration is not enough. The system must be dependable every day, including when a request is ambiguous or a device is offline.
- Reliability: Lights, locks, alarms, heating, and other household devices need predictable behavior and safe failure modes.
- Context: Siri must distinguish rooms, people, devices, routines, and similarly named accessories.
- Personalization: It needs to use personal information without showing or revealing it to the wrong person.
- Cross-app actions: A request may require Siri to coordinate Apple apps, services, and Home controls rather than simply answer a question.
- Latency: A countertop or wall-mounted product must respond quickly enough to feel useful.
- Privacy: A central camera and microphone create consent, storage, and access questions for everyone in the household.
- Compatibility: The hub must work with Apple Home, existing accessories, and supported Matter devices.
- Software distribution: Shipping hardware before the core Siri experience is finished could leave buyers with an incomplete product on day one.
Apple has announced Siri AI—but not the hub
At WWDC on June 8, 2026, Apple officially previewed a next-generation Siri as part of its software announcements. Apple says the upgraded assistant will support features including screen awareness, personal context, cross-app actions, and web-based knowledge. Apple says these capabilities are coming in the fall.

Apple’s official announcement is available in its Newsroom coverage of Siri AI. The reported delay and subsequent smart-home plans were summarized by Bloomberg Law and in later Bloomberg reporting.
The timeline: from delayed Siri to a possible late-2026 hub
- 2024: Apple previewed more personalized Siri capabilities as part of Apple Intelligence, but the broader upgrade did not arrive on its original schedule.
- 2025: Reporting said Apple’s smart-home display had been delayed because it relied on personalized Siri features.
- March 9, 2026: Bloomberg reported another postponement, moving the display later into 2026 while Siri remained unfinished.
- June 8, 2026: Apple officially previewed Siri AI and said the next-generation capabilities would arrive in the fall.
- July 28, 2026: Bloomberg reporting described a broader Apple smart-home push involving the rumored hub, a new Apple TV, and an updated HomePod mini.
- Latest supplied reporting: A fall 2026 window—and, in some coverage, October—has been discussed. Apple has not confirmed a launch date.
The available evidence supports repeated delays, not cancellation. It also does not support treating an October launch as a promise.
What the rumored hub may include
Reported, not confirmed:
- A roughly 7-inch square display.
- A built-in speaker base.
- A possible wall-mount configuration.
- A camera and possible facial-recognition or user-identification features.
- Smart-home controls, music, photos, FaceTime, and Siri interaction.
- A possible price near $350, based on an earlier estimate rather than confirmed Apple pricing.
Apple has not confirmed the final display size, camera hardware, biometric features, mounting options, price, or which features will be available at launch. Buyers should not assume that every reported AI capability will ship on the first day.
Should you wait for Apple’s hub?
| Wait if you… | Buy now if you… |
|---|---|
| Already use Apple devices and services. | Need reliable smart-home control today. |
| Want a dedicated display rather than a voice-only speaker. | Mainly need a home hub for remote access and automations. |
| Value Apple Home, FaceTime, photos, and personal-context features. | Do not need a screen or camera. |
| Are comfortable with an unannounced first-generation product. | Want to avoid an uncertain launch schedule or premium price. |
Waiting makes sense only if the display itself is important and you can tolerate another delay or a limited initial Siri experience. If the goal is simply to run Apple Home automations or access accessories remotely, Apple already sells functioning home-hub hardware.
What you can use now
HomePod mini
The HomePod mini provides voice control, audio, and Apple Home hub functionality. Apple’s U.S. store listed it at $129 in the supplied pricing capture; check the live store page for current pricing before buying.

It is the most straightforward Apple option for a compact, lower-cost hub. It is not a substitute for the rumored display if you want visual dashboards, video calls, photos, or a camera.
HomePod
The larger HomePod combines Apple Home hub functionality with a stronger focus on room-filling audio. The supplied Apple U.S. store capture listed it at $349, though prices and availability can change.
It is a better choice for buyers prioritizing sound quality than for anyone specifically waiting for a screen-centered home interface. Apple’s current HomePod listings are available through its HomePod store page.
Apple TV 4K
Apple identifies Apple TV as a home hub for Matter. It is a sensible option for households that already want a television streaming device and Apple Home access in one box.
It does not replace an always-visible countertop display: it requires a television and is not designed to function as a dedicated room-by-room information screen. Apple’s Matter documentation lists Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini as Apple home hubs.
Apple’s Matter documentation is the better reference for hub roles and compatibility than rumors about the unreleased device.

- [Multi-Protocol Hub with Matter Bridge] The M3 is a versatile hub supporting Aqara Zigbee and Thread devices. It integrates third-party devices into the Aqara Home app. Supports advanced Matter bridge functionality, enabling Aqara-exclusive scenes and signals to sync with Matter ecosystems such as Home Assistant for seamless integration. Supports up to 127 Aqara Zigbee devices (** Not third-party Zigbee devices) and 127 Thread devices (Repeaters are needed).
- [Edge Compatibilities and Local Automations] The M3 serves as an Edge Hub, prioritizing local control and automation. Upon integration, it supersedes existing Aqara hubs, shifting the automations among them to local operation (Some cloud-based notifications still require internet). Upgrade-friendly, it supports migrating Zigbee devices from older Aqara hubs.
- [Smart IR Blaster with Feedback and Learning] The 360°IR blaster not only sends commands but also provides accurate status updates by detecting traditional remote use. It connects IR air conditioning units to Matter, functioning as an AC thermostat when paired with an Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor. (Note: Only one AC device can be exposed to Matter. Functionality may vary based on the Matter integration app. For Apple Home exposure, use Matter integration instead of HomeKit.)
- [Optimal Wired and Wireless Connectivity] Offering both wired and wireless solutions, the smart home hub M3 provides dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) with advanced WPA3 security, and a Power over Ethernet (PoE) port. The addition of a USB-C port allows for mini-UPS and power bank connections, delivering unparalleled stability. (2A USB power adapter is not included. ) . Note: To ensure a stable connection, place the Hub M3 between 6 to 19 feet from the router.
- [Privacy-Focused with Encrypted Storage, Easy Setup and Versatile Placement] The M3 prioritizes privacy by excluding microphone or camera components. It boasts 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, for device lists, configuration parameters, and automation configuration data. Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.
Compatibility and privacy caveats
A home hub is not automatically compatible with every smart-home accessory. Before buying, check whether each device uses Apple Home, Matter, Thread, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or a vendor-specific bridge. Matter compatibility also does not guarantee that every advanced feature, camera function, automation, or manufacturer-specific control will work identically in Apple Home.

Availability can also vary by country, language, Apple Account region, and device capability. Apple’s final launch documentation will matter more than early reports.
A camera-equipped home device deserves additional scrutiny in bedrooms, children’s rooms, and shared homes. Families should decide where it can be installed, who can access personalized information, how voice and camera features are controlled, and whether everyone in the household is comfortable with it.
What would prove the hub is really close?
The strongest evidence would be Apple announcing the hardware itself, publishing a product page and technical specifications, releasing Siri AI publicly rather than only previewing it, confirming supported countries and languages, and opening orders or retail availability.
Until those steps occur, a fall 2026 launch remains a reported window—not a guaranteed date.
