Apple has not officially announced a touchscreen HomePod. Current reporting instead points to a new Apple smart-home hub with a roughly 7-inch, near-square display. It could arrive as early as October 2026, but the reported window extends into early 2027.

The rumored device may be a new home-control category rather than a screen-equipped successor to the full-size HomePod. Apple has also reportedly been working on refreshed HomePod models, so “touchscreen HomePod” currently bundles several separate rumors together.

What Apple has officially confirmed

Apple’s current HomePod lineup includes the full-size HomePod and HomePod mini. Apple has not published an official product name, price, launch date, design, or specification for a touchscreen HomePod or home hub.

Apple’s WWDC26 announcement did confirm a major next-generation Siri initiative for iOS 27 and related software updates. That software is important because the rumored home device is expected to depend on more capable, personalized Siri interactions. However, Apple did not announce the rumored hardware at WWDC26.

What the rumored device actually is

The most accurate description is Apple’s rumored smart-home display or home hub. “HomePod Touch,” “HomePad,” and “Apple Home Hub” are labels used in reporting and speculation, not confirmed Apple branding.

According to reporting attributed to Bloomberg and summarized by outlets including 9to5Mac and AppleInsider, the product could be a tabletop controller for smart-home accessories, media, personal information, and Siri. That makes it potentially closer to an Apple-made smart display than to a conventional HomePod speaker.

Expected release date

The strongest current reporting places the rumored home hub between October 2026 and early 2027. October is an earliest reported target, not a confirmed launch date. The device could therefore arrive before the end of 2026, but readers should not treat “coming this year” as certain.

Earlier reports pointed to spring 2026. That timing appears to have slipped, reportedly because Apple wants the redesigned Siri experience to be ready before launching hardware that depends on it. Bloomberg’s reporting also distinguishes the rumored home hub from a refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV expected around fall 2026.

Reported design and hardware

The reported hardware picture is still incomplete:

  • Display: approximately 7 inches, with a roughly square form factor.
  • Placement: primarily a tabletop design.
  • Controls: touch interaction alongside Siri voice control.
  • Personalization: possible user recognition or user-specific interfaces.
  • Mounting: a magnetic mounting accessory or second configuration has been reported.

These are reported details, not confirmed specifications. Apple has not disclosed the resolution, panel technology, refresh rate, brightness, processor, camera, battery, speaker system, microphones, storage, colors, mounting options, or connectivity radios. It is also unknown whether the device would work independently or require an iPhone, Apple TV, HomePod, iCloud connection, or internet access for particular functions.

What it might do

Smart-home control

A display could make Apple’s home platform easier to use than voice-only control. Users might view rooms, tap lights and scenes, adjust thermostats, check locks, and manage compatible plugs or cameras. Siri would remain the voice interface, while the screen could show the result of a command or expose frequently used controls.

Apple currently describes HomePod and HomePod mini as smart-home hubs, but compatibility should not be assumed for the rumored product until Apple publishes its specifications. “Works with HomeKit” and “Works with Matter” are related but not interchangeable claims.

Personal information

Reports have mentioned calendars, reminders, notes, music preferences, and news preferences. A household display could show different information depending on the person interacting with it, potentially making it useful in a kitchen, hallway, or shared living space.

  • Features a 4" high-excursion woofer and five beamforming tweeters for deep bass, clear vocals, and detailed room-filling audio.
  • Room Sensing technology automatically adjusts sound based on where the speaker is placed.
  • Built-in Siri enables voice control for music, reminders, messages, smart home devices, and more.
  • Supports AirPlay, Spatial Audio, Thread, Matter smart home control, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 4.
  • Pair two HomePod speakers for stereo sound or use multiple units for whole-home audio playback.

Apple has not explained how recognition would work, whether it would require a camera, how household permissions would be managed, or which features would be available in every country and language.

Music and media

The device could show album artwork, playback controls, and music recommendations while providing access to Apple Music through Siri. It might also control an Apple TV or other speakers.

There is no confirmed evidence that it will replace Apple TV, support full video streaming, include FaceTime, or contain a camera. Those features should not be treated as part of the product until Apple announces them.

Next-generation Siri

Apple says its redesigned Siri is intended to be more capable, knowledgeable, and responsive across its platforms. In a home hub, that could mean handling multi-step requests such as controlling several accessories, starting a scene, checking a calendar, setting a timer, and playing media in one interaction.

The software direction is Apple-confirmed; the exact home-hub features are not. Apple has not confirmed whether every new Siri capability will work on existing HomePod models, whether some functions will require a subscription, or whether all features will be available at launch.

Is a touchscreen full-size HomePod also coming?

Possibly, but the rumors should be kept separate. A March 2026 report described a new full-size HomePod alongside an updated HomePod mini and Apple TV. That report does not establish that the full-size HomePod will have a screen.

Product Status What current reporting suggests
Rumored Apple home hub Unannounced Display-based smart-home controller, possibly around 7 inches
Current HomePod Available Higher-end speaker with Siri and smart-home hub functions
Current HomePod mini Available Lower-cost Siri access, room coverage, and home control
Rumored full-size HomePod refresh Reported Likely a speaker refresh; a display is not established
Rumored HomePod mini refresh Reported Updated hardware and possible Siri-related improvements

Price: no confirmed figure

Apple has not announced pricing for the rumored home hub. A previous secondary report mentioned approximately $350, but that is an old rumor and should not be used as a reliable launch-price forecast.

For comparison, Apple’s current U.S. store lists the full-size HomePod at $349 and the HomePod mini at $129. Those are current U.S. prices observed in August 2026, not predictions for the rumored display product. Regional pricing, taxes, and availability may differ.

HomePod versus the rumored display hub

The key difference is the interaction model. The current HomePod is primarily an audio product with Siri and smart-home capabilities. A display hub would add persistent visual information and touch controls.

  • Choose the current HomePod for: better music playback, Spatial Audio, room-filling sound, room sensing, and stereo pairing.
  • Choose the HomePod mini for: inexpensive room-by-room Siri access, temperature and humidity sensing, and multiple-speaker coverage.
  • Wait for the rumored hub for: a visual Siri interface, a household dashboard, touch controls, and at-a-glance calendars or reminders.

Apple’s current comparison identifies Siri, voice recognition, smart-home hub functions, stereo pairing, and multiroom audio across the HomePod range, while the full-size model adds higher-end audio capabilities.

Should you buy a HomePod now or wait?

Buy now if you need audio or home control today

Buy the full-size HomePod if music quality is the priority and you want Apple Music, Spatial Audio, room sensing, or a stereo pair. Buy the HomePod mini if you want affordable Siri access in several rooms or need a compact home hub now.

Neither model should be purchased with the expectation that it will later gain a built-in screen. A rumored home hub may be a separate product, and its launch could slip into 2027.

Wait if the screen is the reason you are shopping

Waiting is the sensible choice if you specifically want touch controls, a visible smart-home dashboard, or persistent calendar and reminder information. Buying a current HomePod now would not guarantee access to the rumored hardware or its future Siri features.

Consider the first-generation trade-off

A first Apple display-based home controller could have a high price, limited software at launch, delayed Siri features, or unclear compatibility with existing accessories. Families should also wait for Apple’s privacy explanation before relying on user recognition or any camera-based functions.

Buy a HomePod now if you want audio or basic Apple smart-home control immediately. Choose a HomePod mini for lower-cost room coverage. Wait if a screen is essential—and do not treat October 2026 as a guaranteed release date.
