Apple has not released an Apple-branded smart-home security camera. As of August 18, 2026, Apple’s real offering is a camera platform: a compatible third-party camera connected to Apple Home, HomeKit Secure Video, an eligible iCloud+ plan, and a HomePod, Apple TV, or supported iPad acting as a home hub.

Apple announced new Apple Intelligence features for compatible Home cameras on June 8, 2026. Those features make the Apple Home camera experience more useful, but they do not turn an ordinary Apple Home-compatible camera into an Apple-made product—or guarantee that every supported camera receives every AI feature.

What Apple actually sells today

The practical Apple camera setup looks like this:

Camera → Home hub → HomeKit Secure Video and iCloud+ → Apple Home and Apple Intelligence

Apple Home is the app and smart-home environment. HomeKit is Apple’s compatibility and control framework. HomeKit Secure Video is the recording and analysis service for supported cameras, while iCloud+ supplies the required subscription. The camera itself is generally made by another company.

Aqara 2K Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera G100, HomeKit Secure Video, White | 2-Way Audio, Spotlight Color/IR Night Vision, AI Detection, 140° FOV, Wi-Fi 6, Supports HomeKit, Alexa, Google and IFTTT
  • 2K Clarity Day and Night: The G100 Wi-Fi Camera films in 2304×1296 (3MP) resolution with a 140°FOV and a wide-angle f/1.8 lens for superior image quality. It features two night vision modes: Spotlight Color Night Vision and IR Detection Mode. The spotlight provides illumination in dark, great for color recording outdoors at night. The G100 also includes 940 nm infrared lighting, ensuring covert illumination without alerting potential intruders. (Note: Both Spotlight and IR night vision modes must be manually enabled in the app and do not turn on automatically.)
  • Indoor/Outdoor Ready IP65 Protection: With durable, weather-resistant IP65-rated housing, the G100 surveillance camera is both an indoor camera and outdoor security camera, offering reliable home surveillance for flexible indoor or outdoor mounting. Withstands rain, dust, and rugged environments.
  • Local and Cloud AI Detection: The G100 surveillance cameras supports local motion and person detection, and the HomeGuardian Plan unlocks cloud-based recognition for pets, vehicles, packages, and faces, with AI event tagging. Integrated Events automatically can be triggered when paired with other Aqara devices (subscription required). It also supports Lens Obstruction Detection, custom audio files, and 2-way audio (Notes: Only in Aqara Home App).
  • HomeKit Support & Wide Compatibility: The Aqara G100 Camera provides full support for HomeKit Secure Video (Note:Requires an active iCloud subscription and an Apple Home hub. HomeKit limits resolution to 1080p. When connected to both Apple and Aqara Home, the G100’s resolution in Aqara Home will also be limited to 1080p, but will return to 1296p if HomeKit is disconnected.) The G100 has some of the best third-party ecosystem support on the market, it can stream to Google, Alexa compatible smart displays, and even Home Assistant via the RTSP protocol, making it easier to interact with visitors or check in on loved ones.
  • Flexible Storage Methods: Record 24/7 with a microSD (up to 512GB, not included) or NAS. Time-lapse mode compresses 24-hours of footage to 15-second clips (wired connection and microSD card required). Automatically store detected events with end-to-end encryption in the cloud with a HomeGuardian subscription, ensuring protection against data theft and guaranteeing your privacy at home.

Apple’s official announcement refers to “compatible Home cameras” and HomeKit Secure Video cameras—not to an Apple camera model. Apple’s June 2026 announcement therefore confirms a software upgrade, not the launch of Apple-branded hardware.

There are reports of a possible future Apple smart-home camera, but those reports remain speculation. MacRumors describes a possible product as uncertain; it should not be treated as a product announcement or a reason to delay a purchase you need now.

What Apple Intelligence adds

For eligible setups, Apple says the Home app will be able to make camera footage easier to understand and search:

  • Generated video descriptions: The system can describe what happened across a sequence of camera clips.
  • Natural-language clip search: You may be able to search for an event such as a package delivery rather than manually reviewing every recording.
  • Noteworthy clips: The Home app can surface potentially important activity.
  • Grouped activity notifications: Related accessory alerts can be combined into one evolving activity instead of arriving as unrelated notifications.

These features are conveniences, not evidence-grade security records. Apple has not published a camera-specific accuracy rate or detailed error analysis. Always inspect the original clip before acting on an AI-generated description, particularly in a theft investigation, insurance claim, dispute, or emergency.

Apple’s announcement also does not establish that every HomeKit camera supports every feature. Availability may depend on the camera, home hub, operating-system version, Apple hardware, language, region, subscription tier, and final rollout. The announced platform generation includes iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27; check Apple’s current documentation before buying specifically for an AI feature.

Privacy: strong architecture, not “nothing leaves the house”

HomeKit Secure Video storage

Apple describes HomeKit Secure Video footage as being stored in iCloud in encrypted form. That protection applies to the HomeKit Secure Video path; it does not automatically make every part of a camera manufacturer’s system private.

A camera may still have its own vendor account, firmware service, mobile app, direct-cloud recording option, analytics, or optional integrations. Review the manufacturer’s privacy policy and settings separately. A camera appearing in Apple Home does not prove that its vendor cloud is disabled.

This limitation also applies to Aqara Home when both platforms are used simultaneously.

On-device processing and Private Cloud Compute

Apple says Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute. Apple presents Private Cloud Compute as extending device privacy and security principles to cloud processing. That is a privacy-focused design, but it is not the same as promising that all video analysis happens inside your home.

Apple’s security research also says it is expanding Private Cloud Compute workloads to third-party data centers, including Google Cloud, while maintaining its stated privacy commitments. In practical terms, “private” here means protected cloud processing with Apple’s published security model—not zero cloud processing.

Controls that matter in a real home

  • Use Apple Account protection and two-factor authentication.
  • Review which household members can view cameras and recorded clips.
  • Decide whether each camera records continuously or only when activity is detected.
  • Check how long clips are retained and when they are automatically deleted.
  • Distinguish live viewing, HomeKit Secure Video recordings, and recordings retained by the camera maker.
  • Avoid placing cameras in bedrooms, bathrooms, or other highly private spaces unless there is an exceptional, clearly understood reason.
  • Use physical shutters or microphone controls where available.

Apple says HomeKit Secure Video can be accessed from iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, with household sharing permissions managed through Apple’s ecosystem. See Apple’s iCloud HomeKit Secure Video guide for current sharing and storage details.

What you need to build the system

  1. A compatible camera. Look specifically for HomeKit Secure Video support. “Works with Apple Home” may mean only live viewing or basic control.
  2. An iPhone or iPad for setup. Apple’s setup documentation says the camera must be added using an iPhone or iPad.
  3. A home hub. Use a HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or an iPad where Apple’s current documentation supports it. The hub should be permanently powered, connected, and kept up to date.
  4. An eligible iCloud+ plan. HomeKit Secure Video recording requires iCloud+.
  5. Compatible software and hardware. Apple Intelligence availability can depend on the device, operating system, language, region, and hub. Apple lists iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, iPads and Macs with M1 or later, Apple Vision Pro, and selected Apple Watch configurations among supported Apple Intelligence hardware.

The hub is an important failure point. If it is unplugged, offline, outdated, or unable to communicate with the camera, remote access and recording behavior may be affected. A reliable installation should use a supported, always-powered hub—not a device that is routinely moved or switched off.

iCloud+ camera limits and U.S. pricing

Apple’s U.S. support page showed the following figures on August 18, 2026:

iCloud+ plan HomeKit Secure Video cameras U.S. monthly price shown
50 GB 1 $0.99
200 GB Up to 5 $2.99
2 TB Unlimited $10.99 on Apple’s support page
6 TB Unlimited $32.99
12 TB Unlimited $64.99

There is a pricing discrepancy worth checking before publication or purchase: Apple’s consumer iCloud page displayed $9.99 per month for 2 TB, while the U.S. support page displayed $10.99. Treat the live Apple checkout flow as the final authority.

Do not assume that every new camera-intelligence feature is included at every tier. Apple’s announcement discusses expanded Apple Intelligence access with iCloud+, while later reporting suggested that the complete Home camera intelligence feature set might require the 2 TB tier. Confirm the current requirement in Apple’s support documentation for your region.

How to choose a camera

Before recommending or buying a model, require all of the following:

  • Explicit HomeKit Secure Video support—not merely Apple Home compatibility.
  • Indoor or outdoor suitability for the intended location.
  • A suitable power arrangement: wired, battery, solar, or another option.
  • Appropriate resolution, night vision, field of view, and mounting hardware.
  • Two-way audio behavior that suits the household.
  • A privacy shutter or physical controls if privacy is a priority.
  • Local-storage fallback if the internet or subscription becomes unavailable.
  • Clear information about vendor accounts, vendor cloud storage, and operation without the manufacturer’s cloud.
  • A camera-count calculation that fits the iCloud+ tier.

Typical buying paths

Indoor, wired, Apple-focused: A HomeKit Secure Video camera such as the Logitech Circle View is a plausible example of a third-party camera built around Apple Home integration. It is not Apple hardware. The camera is wired, so it is better suited to a stable indoor location than to a battery-powered outdoor installation. Check the current vendor page and availability before purchase.

Privacy-first indoor setup: Prioritize a physical shutter, clear vendor-cloud controls, wired power, and a camera that can continue useful local functions if the internet fails.

Outdoor, floodlight, solar, or battery camera: Apple Home’s selection may be narrower than competing ecosystems. Verify weather resistance, battery life, night performance, and whether the exact outdoor model—not merely the brand—supports HomeKit Secure Video.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Doorbell: Confirm doorbell-specific notification behavior, two-way audio, existing wiring, and local regulations. Do not assume that a camera’s HomeKit support provides professional monitoring or every feature offered by its native app.

Multi-camera home: Calculate the camera allowance first. The 50 GB tier supports one camera, 200 GB supports up to five, and the higher listed tiers support unlimited cameras. Also consider hub capacity, Wi-Fi coverage, and retention expectations.

Local-storage-first home: A local or NAS-based system may reduce cloud dependence and give you more control over retention, but it usually requires more technical setup and may not provide the same Apple Home experience.

Apple Home compared with Ring and Google Nest

Priority Apple Home route Ring or Google Nest may be stronger when…
Apple-native control Best fit for households already using iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and HomePod. The household primarily uses Android or Google Home.
Camera choice Requires checking the smaller, exact HomeKit Secure Video-compatible range. You want a broad selection of outdoor, floodlight, battery, doorbell, or alarm products.
AI and search Apple offers generated descriptions, clip search, noteworthy clips, and grouped activity notifications for eligible setups. You prefer a competitor’s native AI, app, or monitoring ecosystem.
Cloud and subscription model HomeKit Secure Video requires iCloud+ and a home hub. You accept the provider’s own subscription and cloud account.
Monitoring Not a substitute for a professional monitoring service. Ring or another security provider may better suit alarm hardware and optional professional monitoring.
Local-only recording Not the central Apple HomeKit Secure Video model. A local-storage or NAS system is usually a better fit.

Matter compatibility should not be treated as equivalent to HomeKit Secure Video. A Matter camera may work with Apple Home in some way without providing Apple’s recording, notification, or AI features. Verify the exact capability rather than relying on a logo.

What about a rumored Apple camera?

Who should choose Apple Home cameras?

Choose the Apple route if your household already uses Apple devices, values a privacy-focused platform, accepts an iCloud+ subscription, and is willing to verify HomeKit Secure Video support camera by camera. It is especially attractive when Apple Home notifications, household sharing, and Apple Intelligence search are more important than the widest hardware range.

Reconsider it if you want professional monitoring, a large selection of battery or solar cameras, mature 24/7 recording, local-only storage, broad Android support, or an Apple-designed camera with Apple branding. It is also a poor fit if you do not already own a suitable hub and do not want to buy one.

Third-party bridges can expose some non-HomeKit cameras to Apple Home, but compatibility may be incomplete. A bridged Ring, Nest, or other camera should not be assumed to receive native HomeKit Secure Video recording or Apple Intelligence features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line

There is no verified standalone Apple smart-home camera as of August 18, 2026. The real product is an Apple-managed camera experience: a verified HomeKit Secure Video camera, an always-on home hub, iCloud+, and compatible Apple software. Apple Intelligence can make recorded footage easier to search and summarize, but its descriptions can be wrong, feature availability is conditional, and Apple’s hybrid architecture includes both on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.

For an Apple-centric household that accepts those trade-offs, this is a credible privacy-focused camera system today. For buyers who require local-only recording, professional monitoring, extensive outdoor hardware, or no recurring subscription, another camera ecosystem may be the better construction and security planning choice.
