iFixit’s FixBot is now available as an AI repair assistant on the web and in iFixit’s iOS and Android apps. It can troubleshoot symptoms, analyze photos, identify devices and parts, find relevant repair information, and guide users through next steps. A continuing free plan covers basic text and image-based help; the paid FixBot Enthusiast plan adds higher limits, experimental voice guidance, and PDF or manual uploads.
For construction professionals, facilities teams, tradespeople and DIY users, FixBot may be useful for diagnosing equipment and locating documentation—but it should support, not replace, manufacturer manuals, competent technicians or required safety procedures.

What is iFixit FixBot?
Announced on December 9, 2025, FixBot is iFixit’s conversational AI repair helper. It is designed to work more like a troubleshooting assistant than a conventional search box:
- Describe a fault by text or voice.
- Answer follow-up diagnostic questions.
- Upload photographs of labels, model plates, connectors, damage or components.
- Receive possible causes, relevant repair information and potential parts.
- Follow links to guides, manuals, schematics or other documentation.
iFixit says FixBot draws on its repair guides, community answers and PDF manuals. The launch announcement referred to approximately 125,000 repair guides, while the current product page says it supports more than 72,000 products. Those figures use different descriptions and should not be treated as a single, directly comparable library count.

FixBot can be accessed at fixbot.ifixit.com and through the iFixit mobile apps. FixBot is the AI assistant; the wider iFixit app also contains ordinary repair guides and other repair-related features.
What can FixBot help repair?
iFixit’s examples include phones with battery or shutdown problems, refrigerators, washing machines, lawnmowers, computers, automotive equipment and trailers. It also describes using a photograph of a model plate to narrow down an appliance repair and retrieve details such as part numbers, schematics and torque values.
For construction and property-maintenance work, that could make FixBot useful when identifying an unfamiliar tool, appliance, computer component, small machine or replacement part. However, these are stated capabilities rather than independent performance results. A successful diagnosis will depend on the exact model, available documentation, the quality of the photographs and the completeness of the symptoms.
FixBot Free versus FixBot Enthusiast
iFixit’s current plan documentation describes Free as an ongoing plan, not merely an expiring trial. Normal use requires an iFixit account, although logged-out visitors can try a limited number of messages.

The limits listed above were stated by iFixit as current in July 2026. They are rolling limits in some cases rather than a simple midnight reset, and iFixit says limits may change. The paid plan is not unlimited.
How much does FixBot Enthusiast cost?
On the U.S. pricing page reviewed in August 2026, FixBot Enthusiast costs:
- $8.99 per month on the monthly plan.
- $79.99 per year on the annual plan, displayed as an effective $6.67 per month.
- The annual page also displays a promotion offering three months free.
These are U.S. prices at a particular point in time, not a worldwide price. iFixit shows different local-currency prices on regional pages, including its Canadian, Australian and UK sites. Taxes and promotions may also vary.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled. iFixit says cancellation can be completed through account settings or its subscription-management page, with access continuing through the already-paid billing period. See the current plan documentation for billing details.

How to get better results from FixBot
A vague prompt such as “my drill is broken” gives the assistant little to work with. Include:
- The manufacturer and exact model number, including the regional variant.
- What happened immediately before the problem began.
- Whether the fault is constant or intermittent.
- Error codes, flashing-light patterns, unusual sounds, smells, heat or visible damage.
- Previous repairs, modifications or exposure to water, dust or impact.
- Tests already performed and their results.
- Clear photographs of the model plate, connectors, damage and the overall device.
- The service manual or schematic, if you have one and are using the paid plan.
For example, instead of writing “my phone is broken,” provide a description such as: “iPhone 15 shuts off at 30% battery after a screen replacement; battery health shows 91%; no liquid exposure; it restarts when connected to power.” The same principle applies to a generator, appliance, tool or site computer: identify the exact equipment and describe the timeline precisely.

A safer workflow for using AI repair advice
- Confirm the device identity. Similar model names and regional versions may use different parts or procedures.
- Ask for possible causes, not just one diagnosis. This helps expose uncertainty and alternative explanations.
- Request the supporting source. Ask FixBot to identify the relevant iFixit guide, manual section, schematic or specification.
- Verify the part number. Do not order a component solely because an AI suggested it.
- Check for hidden requirements. Some repairs require calibration, pairing, firmware, proprietary software or specialist tools.
- Protect data and equipment. Back up electronic devices and disconnect power or batteries where appropriate.
- Follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions. Use the correct isolation, personal protective equipment and testing procedures.
- Stop when the risk exceeds your competence. Seek qualified help for high-voltage, high-current, pressurized, fuel, refrigerant, battery, airbag or hazardous-chemical systems.
FixBot can make mistakes, and iFixit’s product page warns users about that limitation. Its terms of use state that its output is not certified professional advice. A photograph may reveal corrosion or a damaged connector but cannot reliably expose every internal electrical, software, thermal or mechanical fault.
How FixBot compares with other repair options
iFixit’s ordinary repair guides
For a known device and a straightforward repair, browsing iFixit’s existing guides directly may be faster and sufficient. FixBot’s advantage is conversational help when the fault is unclear or the correct guide is difficult to find.

Manufacturer manuals and service information
Manufacturer documentation remains essential for specifications, safety warnings, torque settings, calibration, wiring and approved procedures. FixBot can help locate or interpret information, but it should not override the source manual.
A general-purpose AI chatbot
A general AI assistant may be more useful for broad research, calculations, translation or unrelated technical questions. FixBot’s defensible distinction is its repair-focused connection to iFixit content and documentation. iFixit has claimed that FixBot is better than other systems at avoiding fabricated answers, but that is a company claim, not an independently established comparison.
A technician or repair shop
A qualified technician can inspect equipment, perform electrical or mechanical tests, use specialist tools and take responsibility for a repair. FixBot cannot safely substitute for that expertise where an incorrect decision could cause injury, fire, equipment damage or regulatory problems.

- Frequent hobbyist or maintenance user: Enthusiast may be worthwhile if you regularly need many interactions, want to upload manuals or would benefit from hands-free guidance.
- Construction or facilities team: Consider whether the individual plan meets your documentation, access and accountability requirements before using it for work equipment.
- Repair shop or refurbisher: Investigate FixBot Pro, which is intended for professional and team use and offers features such as shared workspaces, administration and internal-document uploads.
- Enterprise service organization: FixBot Pro Enterprise is the relevant route for features such as SSO, integrations, advanced security and dedicated support.
- High-risk repair: A paid subscription does not make AI output professional certification. Use competent human expertise regardless of plan.
FixBot Enthusiast is also separate from iFixit Pro. A FixBot subscription does not automatically include iFixit store discounts or the benefits of iFixit’s wholesale program.

Privacy and information handling
Before uploading photographs, serial numbers, workplace documents or service manuals, review iFixit’s current terms and privacy information. Avoid sharing personal data, confidential project information, access credentials or unrelated documents. The safest upload is limited to the information needed to identify and troubleshoot the equipment.
Bottom line
FixBot’s strongest proposition is convenience: it combines conversational troubleshooting, image-based identification and access to iFixit’s repair-oriented material. The free plan is a sensible starting point for occasional repairs. Enthusiast is mainly justified by its higher limits, experimental voice mode and PDF or manual uploads—not by unlimited use or a guarantee of better diagnosis.

Verify its recommendations against the correct service documentation, follow formal safety procedures and use a qualified technician whenever the consequences of a wrong repair are serious.
