The Apothecary’s Friend is a woodworking plan for building a storage and accent cabinet—not a listing for a completed piece of furniture. WOOD Magazine lists the finished cabinet at 35-1/4 inches high, 33 inches wide and 10-1/4 inches deep. The plan is listed as a download by WOOD and as a paper plan by Woodcraft; Woodcraft says materials are not included.
What the Apothecary’s Friend plan covers
WOOD Magazine describes the Apothecary’s Friend as an updated take on a traditional apothecary cabinet, intended for general storage and as a home accent. Its project page attributes the design to WOOD Issue 120, Winter 1999, and notes that the page was updated January 16, 2024. See WOOD Magazine’s project listing.
The listing’s description says, “Ours is great for storing all sorts of things.” That is the publisher’s product copy; it does not provide a capacity rating or measured performance claim.
Finished dimensions
| Measurement | Published dimension |
|---|---|
| Height | 35-1/4 inches |
| Width | 33 inches |
| Depth | 10-1/4 inches |
These are the dimensions shown on WOOD Magazine’s project page, updated in 2024. They describe the finished cabinet, not a material requirement or a guarantee that a build will match without accounting for the plan’s construction details.

Read the pocket-hole correction before building
A published correction matters if you are using the original Issue 120 drawings. In WOOD Issue 125 (July 2000), the magazine explained that the Parts View drawing and Divider detail showed different locations for the same pocket holes, and directed readers to a corrected divider detail. Consult the Issue 125 correction alongside the original plan rather than relying on the conflicting detail.

What to confirm in the plan itself
The product and project pages do not supply the complete drawings or construction specifications. Before purchasing materials or starting work, use the plan to verify the cut list, material species and quantities, hardware, tools, joinery instructions and finish guidance. The paper-plan listing’s statement that materials are excluded does not identify which materials or hardware the build requires.
