The 2022 Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED is a capable large-screen streaming and smart-home television, but it is not a universal bargain. It delivers an attractive 4K QLED picture, a responsive Fire TV interface, hands-free Alexa, useful Ambient Experience features, and four HDMI inputs. Its value depends on the price you find today: the 60Hz panel, modest HDR brightness, glare, advertising-heavy software, and older included remote are significant compromises.
It remains a sensible purchase for Alexa households and casual console gamers buying a discounted 65- or 75-inch set. It is a poor choice for competitive 4K gaming, bright-room HDR, OLED-like black levels, or anyone paying nearly as much as a newer 120Hz television.

The original Android Central review, published in February 2023 and updated July 9, 2023, recorded launch prices of $799 for the 65-inch model and $1,099 for the 75-inch model. Those are historical figures, not current 2026 prices. Read the original review for the source evaluation, but judge a used, refurbished, or remaining new unit by its actual asking price today.
What is the 2022 Omni QLED?
The Omni QLED was Amazon’s higher-end 2022 Fire TV television, positioned above the company’s more basic sets. It combines a 4K QLED display with Fire TV software, built-in microphones for hands-free Alexa, and Amazon’s Ambient Experience.

Only 65-inch and 75-inch versions are covered by this review. There is no smaller 2022 Omni QLED option for a bedroom, apartment, or compact office. The large sizes make it primarily a living-room television, although wall mounting can help with placement and viewing angles.
Picture quality: attractive, but not premium
The hands-on review considered the image one of the Omni QLED’s strongest features for its price. QLED technology can produce vivid color and a punchy image that suits streaming shows, live television, and console games. 4K content also looks suitably sharp at these screen sizes.
That does not make the television an OLED substitute. QLED does not provide OLED’s pixel-level light control, so buyers seeking exceptionally deep blacks and tightly controlled highlights should look to OLED or a stronger modern mini-LED model instead.
Brightness is the more immediate concern. The review found that the set could be brighter, particularly when sunlight entered the room. Glare can further reduce contrast and make dark scenes harder to see during the day. Curtains, a carefully chosen wall position, or an adjustable mount can help, but a bright-room buyer should prioritize a brighter alternative rather than expect placement to solve everything.
The available review is editorial and subjective; it does not provide instrumented measurements for brightness, contrast, color accuracy, HDR performance, or input lag. Treat descriptions such as “good-looking” or “punchy” as review impressions, not laboratory results.
Fire TV: fast and convenient, with advertising
Fire TV is the main reason to choose this set over a television with another smart platform. The streaming interface is built in, so most buyers do not need a separate streaming stick. The Android Central reviewer found navigation unusually fast and responsive in everyday use.

- Alexa search and control: use voice commands to find content, launch apps, and control compatible functions.
- Amazon integration: the experience is especially convenient for people already using Alexa, Echo, Ring, or other compatible smart-home products.
- Simple setup: streaming apps and voice control are part of the television rather than an extra box.
The drawback is the home screen. It includes sponsored and promoted content, so it is not a neutral, app-only launcher. This is a software-experience objection rather than a performance defect, but it matters if you want a quieter interface. Buyers who prefer Roku or Google TV should not assume Fire TV will feel interchangeable.
Fire TV menus, advertising, app availability, and Alexa features can change over time. The 2023 review establishes the experience tested then, not a guarantee of identical behavior in 2026.
Ambient Experience is a genuine differentiator
When you are not watching television, Ambient Experience can display artwork or personal photos along with widgets such as weather, headlines, and smart-home information. The set also includes presence-based behavior that can turn the display on when someone enters and off after the room is empty, according to the review.
This makes the Omni QLED appealing to buyers who want a television to contribute to a room rather than remain a black rectangle between viewing sessions. It offers some of the appeal of an art-display television such as Samsung’s The Frame, while remaining an all-purpose TV first.
It is not an electronic-ink art panel, and an active display may use more power than a fully idle television. Hands-free microphones and presence sensing also deserve a privacy check. Before enabling those functions, review the TV’s current privacy controls and decide whether voice or presence detection is appropriate for your home.
Gaming: acceptable at 60Hz, unsuitable as a gaming-first TV
The 60Hz panel is the most important buying qualification. The Omni QLED can be perfectly serviceable for games designed to run at 30 or 60 frames per second. Single-player cinematic games can still benefit from the attractive image and HDR presentation described in the review.
However, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X owners who specifically want 4K at 120Hz will be limited. Competitive players may also notice that the television cannot provide the higher refresh ceiling offered by gaming-focused alternatives. It is an even poorer fit for PC buyers shopping specifically for high-refresh-rate 4K gaming.
The accurate verdict is not “bad for gaming.” It is fine for casual 30/60Hz gaming and the wrong choice for enthusiast or competitive gaming. The historically compared Hisense U8 series, particularly the U8H mentioned in the original review, is the more relevant direction for buyers prioritizing HDMI 2.1 and native 120Hz. Verify the specifications of any newer model rather than assuming they match the U8H.
Ports and connections
The Omni QLED has four HDMI ports, plus:
- USB-A
- Ethernet
- Optical audio output
- 3.5mm audio combination jack
- 3.5mm infrared-adapter port
- Coaxial antenna/cable input
Four HDMI inputs are useful if you have a console, soundbar or receiver, disc player, cable box, and another device connected at the same time. One of those HDMI ports provides eARC, which is the practical limitation: reserve it for the soundbar or AV receiver if you want the simplest modern audio connection. The source confirms the port count but does not provide a complete port-by-port bandwidth or feature table, so do not assume every HDMI input supports identical gaming standards.
Remote and audio considerations
The TV shipped with Amazon’s standard Alexa Voice Remote. It is functional and supports voice control, but the review viewed the omission of the newer Alexa Voice Remote Pro as a missed opportunity. Backlit controls, programmable buttons, or other Pro features may require a separate purchase.
Rank #2
- Brilliant in every way – A 4K QLED display combines stunning visuals, smart features, and fast performance so you can get the most out of your TV.
- Picture perfect views – Scenes leap off the screen and look beautiful in any light with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ Adaptive.
- Speed, redefined – Jump right into what you love with Wi-Fi 6 support and a new quad-core processor. Apps open and load fast and the picture stays smooth.
- Instantly On - Introducing our custom Omnisense technology. Built-in sensors wake the display when you enter to show your favorite artwork or let you start watching in a snap.
- The newest Fire TV experience (2026) – Our biggest update to Fire TV has a new, modern design that gets you to your entertainment fast. Browse dedicated content categories, pin more of your favorite apps, and get personalized recommendations from Alexa+. Spend less time scrolling, and more time watching.
If buying used or refurbished, check that the remote is included and test every button. If you plan to replace it, verify compatibility with the exact TV before ordering from an Amazon Remote Pro search listing; do not assume every Fire TV remote has identical support.
The available review does not provide meaningful sound-quality testing, so there is no basis for calling the built-in speakers excellent or poor. A soundbar is a reasonable upgrade for clearer dialogue, stronger bass, or surround sound. HDMI eARC is the preferred connection when supported; optical output is another option. Check your soundbar’s inputs and reserve the TV’s single eARC port accordingly. A general Fire TV soundbar search should not be treated as a recommendation for any specific model.

Alexa and smart-home integration
The Omni QLED is most distinctive when it is part of an Alexa household. The review successfully controlled compatible smart-home devices and accessed camera or doorbell views when the relevant products and accounts were configured.
That does not mean every smart-home device has identical controls. Camera previews and voice commands depend on compatibility, account linking, network access, and continued Amazon service support. “Works with Alexa” should be read as a compatibility label, not a promise of universal functionality.
Privacy-conscious buyers should consider the built-in microphones and presence features before purchasing. Those who do not use Alexa may get less value from the Omni QLED’s defining advantages and may prefer a television built around Roku or Google TV.
How it compares by buyer type
Choose a TCL 5-Series-style alternative for different software
The original comparison identified TCL’s 5-Series as a less expensive alternative, with Roku TV or Google TV variants depending on the model. That makes the TCL direction more appropriate if you prefer either platform to Fire TV. Do not infer that every current TCL QLED has the historical 5-Series specifications; check the exact size, panel, refresh rate, and software version at TCL’s US product pages.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose a Hisense U8-series model for gaming and stronger performance
The Hisense U8H was cited as a step-up option with HDMI 2.1 and a native 120Hz refresh rate. That is the kind of alternative to investigate when high-refresh-rate gaming or stronger picture performance matters more than Alexa and Ambient Experience. Current U8 models may differ and may cost more, so verify the specific listing at Hisense USA.
Choose Samsung The Frame for art first
The Omni QLED’s Ambient Experience is useful, but Samsung The Frame is more purpose-built for displaying art. It makes more sense when the television must blend into the room as a design object. It may cost more, and buyers focused only on picture quality and value may not benefit from paying for its art-focused design.
Choose OLED or modern mini-LED for premium picture quality
If deep blacks, high-end HDR, and demanding movie performance are the priority, compare current OLED and mini-LED televisions instead. The Omni QLED’s original review does not include the measurements needed to rank it against current premium models, and a 2022 set should not be treated as a 2026 picture-quality leader.
Buying a used or refurbished Omni QLED
Because this is a 2022 television, condition and seller terms matter as much as the model name. Before paying, verify:
- The exact size: 65 or 75 inches.
- Screen uniformity, dead pixels, discoloration, and visible damage.
- The stand, power cable, remote, and wall-mount hardware if advertised.
- Microphone and Alexa operation if hands-free control matters to you.
- All HDMI inputs, USB, Ethernet, optical audio, and the antenna input.
- The seller’s return window, warranty, and whether the item is refurbished or marketplace stock.
If wall mounting, match the mount to the exact TV’s VESA pattern, weight, stud spacing, and wall type. A generic 65-inch wall-mount search is only a starting point, not proof of compatibility.
Should you buy the 2022 Omni QLED?
Buy it when you want a 65- or 75-inch streaming TV, already use Alexa, value smart-home control or Ambient Experience, and mostly play games at 30 or 60Hz. It becomes particularly compelling when discounted well below comparable current QLED televisions.
Buy conditionally when its price is close to newer models but Fire TV, Alexa, or the art-style ambient display is unusually important to you. Those ecosystem features are the clearest reasons to accept the older panel and brightness limits.
Skip it when you want 4K/120Hz gaming, strong daylight HDR, OLED-level blacks, an ad-free home screen, a smaller screen, or a newer brighter mini-LED display. Also skip it when the seller’s price approaches a current 120Hz television.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a 2026 purchase, compare the exact listing—not the old review’s launch price—with current 65-inch and 75-inch QLED, mini-LED, and 120Hz options. Availability, warranty, software behavior, and pricing were not verified here and may vary by seller and region. Fire TV apps, Alexa features, broadcast support, and pricing can also differ outside the United States.
