The Connectivity Standards Alliance released the Aliro 1.0 specification on February 26, 2026. What is still unfolding is consumer availability: compatible locks, wallet credentials, certifications, firmware, and UWB support are arriving at different times.
As of August 18, 2026, the practical answer is that Aliro is available in limited, uneven forms. Samsung has launched an Aliro-based Digital Home Key in select regions, while products from Aqara, Nuki, and Schlage provide different combinations of NFC, Apple Home Key, Samsung Wallet, UWB, Matter, and keypad access.

What Aliro 1.0 actually is
Aliro is an access-control standard for digital credentials. It is designed to let phones, watches, locks, and access readers communicate through a common framework for entering homes, apartments, offices, hotels, universities, and other controlled spaces.

The standard is focused on digital keys and unlocking experiences. It is not a replacement for Matter, and it is not “Matter 2.0.” Matter helps compatible smart-home devices work with platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings. Aliro addresses credentials, readers, and the interaction used to unlock a door.

- To increase the safety factor, you can choose to configure an ISO7816-3 compliant SAM card slot in the ACR122.
- Widely used in areas such as access control, electronic payment, bus e-ticketing, highway toll collection systems, network verification, logistics, and supply chain management.
The CSA says more than 220 member companies were associated with the Aliro 1.0 effort at launch. That broad industry participation may improve interoperability over time, but participation does not mean every company has already certified a product or enabled every Aliro feature.

How Aliro unlocking works
Aliro 1.0 defines three main transport configurations:
Recommended Free Tools
| Method | What the user does | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| NFC | Tap a phone or wearable against the reader. | Requires very close physical proximity. |
| Bluetooth LE | Initiate an unlock from a phone or compatible app. | Usually requires a deliberate action rather than fully hands-free entry. |
| Bluetooth LE plus UWB | Approach the door with an authorized device for proximity-based access. | Requires compatible UWB hardware, wallet software, lock firmware, certification, and regional support. |
According to the Aliro FAQ, NFC operates at 13.56 MHz, Bluetooth LE at 2.4 GHz, and UWB defaults to Channel 9 in the 7.75–8.25 GHz range. The specification also includes digital credentials and asymmetric cryptography.
UWB should not be described simply as Bluetooth with more range. Its value is precise ranging and proximity determination. In a well-designed system, that can help establish that an authorized person is approaching the correct door and intends to enter. It does not automatically make every UWB-equipped lock interoperable with every phone wallet.
What is available to consumers now?
Aliro availability is real but fragmented. A specification release, a certified product, and a working wallet feature are separate milestones.
| Product or service | Current status | Access features | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key | Launched in March 2026 in select regions. | Aliro-based NFC access, with UWB on supported devices and locks. | Requires a compatible Galaxy device, lock, SmartThings setup, and regional availability. Not every Galaxy phone has UWB. |
| Aqara Smart Lock U400 | Aqara says the lock is Aliro-certified. | UWB Apple Home Key, NFC, Samsung Wallet through SmartThings, fingerprint, passcode, app, voice control, Matter over Thread, and mechanical key. | UWB and wallet features remain device- and ecosystem-dependent. Aqara’s U.S. store showed $529.99 for a two-pack, not a verified single-lock price. |
| Nuki Keypad 2 NFC | Nuki calls it the first Aliro-certified keypad for residential electronic door locks. | Apple Home Key, Samsung Digital Home Key, Nuki tap-to-unlock, fingerprint access, and personalized codes. | It is an NFC keypad, not a hands-free UWB reader. Nuki’s U.S. price signal was $179. |
| Schlage Sense Pro | Available as a $399 smart deadbolt and described by Schlage as Aliro-compatible. | UWB hands-free Apple Home Key, NFC tap-to-unlock through Apple Home Key, keypad codes, app management, and Matter over Thread. | Schlage says Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet Aliro support are expected later in 2026 after certification. |
Apple, Samsung, and Google support are not equivalent
Apple
Apple was involved in developing Aliro, but the supplied evidence does not establish a broad, Aliro-branded Apple Wallet credential working across all compatible locks.

Several products support Apple Home Key, including NFC and UWB implementations. However, Apple Home Key predates Aliro 1.0 and should not automatically be labelled Aliro. A lock may support both Apple Home Key and Aliro, but those are not necessarily the same certification or credential system.
Samsung
Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key is explicitly built on Aliro. Samsung’s described setup requires the user to configure a compatible lock through SmartThings using Matter, then add the digital key to Samsung Wallet. Unlocking may use NFC or, where supported, UWB.
UWB availability varies by Galaxy model. A Samsung phone that supports SmartThings is not automatically a UWB phone.
See Samsung’s U.S. announcement and global announcement for rollout details.
The available official evidence does not verify a broad Google Wallet Aliro launch as of August 18, 2026. Schlage’s technology page says Google Wallet Aliro support for the Sense Pro is expected later in 2026 after certification. That is planned support, not a general feature that buyers should assume is working today.
Why certification matters
Manufacturers use terms such as “Aliro-compatible,” “Aliro-ready,” and “Aliro-certified,” but they do not mean the same thing.
- Aliro-enabled or Aliro-compatible: May indicate that a product implements part of the standard or is intended to work with it.
- Aliro-ready: Often suggests hardware designed for a future update or certification. It does not prove that a wallet feature works now.
- Aliro-certified: Indicates that the relevant implementation has passed the applicable certification process. The user may still need a compatible wallet, phone, firmware version, hub, app, and regional service.
The CSA has a certification program and test suites administered through authorized laboratories. UL Solutions offers Aliro testing services covering NFC, Bluetooth LE, and UWB.

For a single home, the main question is whether the lock works with the owner’s phone. For apartments, offices, hotels, student housing, and managed properties, the decision is broader. The credential system, reader hardware, access-management software, audit trail, tenant turnover process, and emergency access plan all matter.
Before specifying an Aliro-capable system, confirm:
- Which credential types are supported: NFC, Bluetooth LE, UWB, cards, codes, or mobile app.
- Whether the implementation is certified or merely described as ready or compatible.
- Whether guest credentials can be issued, revoked, scheduled, and audited.
- Whether credentials remain usable during a network outage.
- Whether the system requires a cloud account, hub, Thread border router, or property-management platform.
- Whether the door hardware fits the opening, door thickness, backset, handing, cylinder, and multipoint-lock arrangement.
- What happens when a resident loses a phone, changes platforms, or leaves the property.
- What mechanical or electronic fallback is available during a dead battery or system failure.
Matter and Aliro solve different problems
A Matter-over-Thread lock may appear in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings and respond to smart-home commands. That does not automatically give it an Aliro credential or wallet-based unlocking.
Conversely, an Aliro credential can govern the access experience while the lock uses Matter for broader smart-home integration. Buyers should check both specifications separately. Matter compatibility does not guarantee Apple Home Key, Samsung Wallet, Google Wallet, NFC, or UWB support.

NFC versus UWB: which is more practical?
NFC
NFC is the simpler experience: present the phone or watch, tap the reader, and unlock. It works at very short range, which helps reduce accidental activation, and it does not require a UWB-equipped phone.
The trade-off is convenience. The user must take out or present the device, which is less appealing when carrying bags or wearing gloves. The reader and wallet must also support the same credential system.

- Multi-frequency Compatibility: The rfid reader and writer assist in identifying ID cards and IC cards of different frequencies, including 125KHz, 175KHz, 250KHz, 300KHz, 375KHz, 500KHz, 13.56MHz and other frequencies
- Smart Card Reader: This rfid copier can read many types of cards, including T5577, S50, S70, TK4100, EM4100, EM4200, TK4100-D, TK4168, HID ProxCard II, AWID, Paradox and other common cards on the market. If you aren't sure your card whether can be used or the device can not read your card, please contact us
- App connection: You can use the App to operate or decode through a computer or mobile phone, and upgrade the App for free(Notice: when the computer identifies it as malware, you should exit the computer's protection software)
- NFC Simulation: Independent NFC simulation function, allowing devices with NFC function to simulate encrypted IC cards with one button. Also, You can directly enter the card number to be written by key, which is convenient and fast
- Communication Interface: The card reader is with low power consumption in standby mode and supports Type-C comm, making it convenient and practical. And the rfid copier is with 2.8-inch TFT color screen, which can display various card information more intuitively
UWB
UWB can enable hands-free approach-based entry when the phone or watch is in a pocket or bag. Its more precise ranging can support better proximity and intent decisions than a broad radio signal alone.
It is also more dependent on the entire system: the lock, reader, phone, wallet, firmware, operating system, hub, certification, and region must line up. A lock can have a UWB radio and still expose only Apple Home Key or another platform-specific experience.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAutomatic unlocking is not automatically safer or better. A system must avoid opening the door merely because an authorized device is nearby, particularly in shared entrances, driveways, corridors, or adjacent rooms.
Should you buy an Aliro-capable lock now?
Buy now if your requirement is specific and already supported
Buying now can make sense if Apple Home Key, Samsung NFC access, a keypad, fingerprint access, or a physical-key fallback meets the need. Choose a product whose current documentation names your phone, wallet, region, and required access method.
Wait if you want broad cross-platform interoperability
If the main goal is one lock that works seamlessly with Apple, Samsung, and Google wallets, waiting may be sensible. The standard exists, but wallet certification and platform support are still arriving at different speeds.
Do not buy based only on “Aliro-ready”
Ask the manufacturer whether the exact model is certified, which transport was tested, which wallet works today, and whether a firmware update is required. A future promise should not be treated as a current feature.
Keep a fallback
A keypad, fingerprint reader, physical key, emergency power method, temporary code, or app-based option can prevent a lost phone, depleted battery, disabled wallet, or failed network from locking out the occupant.
Practical setup checklist
- Confirm the exact lock model and region. Availability and wallet support can vary by country.
- Check the phone or watch. Verify operating-system requirements and whether the device includes UWB if hands-free access is required.
- Identify the credential platform. Apple Home Key, Samsung Wallet, Google Wallet, the manufacturer’s app, and Aliro are not interchangeable labels.
- Update firmware. The phone, lock, hub, and app may all require current software.
- Check hub and network requirements. Thread-enabled locks may require a Thread border router or ecosystem hub. Remote app access may require Wi-Fi or cloud connectivity.
- Set up recovery access. Add a code, physical key, fingerprint, NFC card, or emergency power method before relying on wallet access.
- Test real-world failure cases. Test a locked phone, depleted lock battery, missing network connection, revoked guest credential, and alternate household member.
The bottom line
Aliro 1.0 has launched, but the consumer ecosystem is still in its early deployment phase. NFC access is arriving first in some products, while UWB hands-free access remains more dependent on specific phones, wallets, locks, firmware, certification, and regions.
For homeowners and construction professionals, the right question is not simply whether a product says “Aliro.” Confirm the exact credential, transport method, certification status, platform, installation requirements, and fallback access that will work on the property today.
