If your Aera diffuser is not working, start with its lights: Aera assigns specific fixes to different blinking patterns. Check the capsule and power switch for a device that will not start; use the Wi-Fi steps for bookend lights; and contact Aera for rapid blinking across all lights. Avoid forcing the capsule or treating every symptom as a reason to buy a replacement.
What to check if your Aera diffuser will not start
- Confirm the power cord is connected and the power switch on the back of the device is on. Aera says the top LEDs should be lit.
- Check that the capsule is oriented correctly. Press it down about a quarter inch; it should begin moving down on its own after a second or two. Do not force it.
- If you need to remove the capsule, press the eject button and wait for the lift mechanism to raise it. Then pull it out lightly.
Aera says a quiet hum means the device is running properly. If it remains unresponsive after checking power and capsule seating, contact Aera rather than opening the housing or attempting an electrical repair.
What Aera’s blinking light patterns mean
Match the pattern you see to the corresponding action in Aera’s troubleshooting guide. These patterns do not all call for the same fix.

How to reboot or factory-reset an Aera diffuser
Reboot the device
A reboot is the brief power cycle Aera recommends for a repeating ascending 1–10 light pattern: unplug the diffuser for three seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on.

Factory-reset the device
A factory reset is a separate procedure. Use it only when you intend to reset the device, not as a substitute for the targeted light-pattern fixes above.
- Press and hold the “+” and “−” intensity buttons together for 10 seconds, then release them.
- Wait for all 10 lights to blink once, which signals that the reset has started.
- Wait 15 seconds. All 10 lights should blink three times to indicate completion.
How to fix Aera Wi-Fi or app setup problems
- Make sure the diffuser is powered on and that both the phone and device are within range of the Wi-Fi access point.
- On iPhone: In the phone’s Wi-Fi settings, select the Aera Device Network. Return to the Aera app, select your home network, and enter its password.
- On Android: Let the app search for the powered-on diffuser, then choose your home network in the app.
If the device shows bookend lights (1/2 and 9/10), Aera identifies that as a Wi-Fi issue. If setup still fails, contact Customer Care for help.

What to do when the scent is weak or a capsule seems to run out quickly
Check the diffuser’s intensity and schedule before assuming the capsule is faulty. Aera says fragrance use depends on intensity, operating days, and hours. Scheduling the diffuser to turn off while you are away or asleep can conserve fragrance.
Aera estimates about 60 days of capsule life at a mid-strength setting with 10 hours of daily operation. This is a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee; actual duration varies with settings, use, and fragrance. See Aera’s FAQ and product page for its usage guidance.

When a replacement capsule is—and is not—the fix
Aera’s guide calls for replacing the capsule when all lights fade in and out, and replacement may also be appropriate when a capsule is spent. It is not the prescribed fix for every blinking pattern: other patterns call for reinserting the capsule, rebooting, checking Wi-Fi, or contacting support.
Aera says its diffusers work exclusively with Aera capsules, which are not refillable. Aera, Aera Mini, and Aera Go capsules are not interchangeable, so match the capsule to the device model. Do not use third-party oils or try to refill a capsule.
