ADT’s Yale Fingerprint Lock Improves the ADT+ and Google Nest Experience

ADT’s Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch adds fingerprint access and can link entry with alarm actions on supported ADT+ systems. Here’s who should pay the premium.

Verdict: The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch is a meaningful convenience upgrade for an ADT+ entry door. Its fingerprint reader can provide keyless access, while supported ADT+ configurations can link a touch at the lock with disarming or rearming the security system. But it is not a replacement for Nest Secure, it does not make every ADT setup compatible, and the roughly $90 premium over the standard Yale Assure Lock 2 is worthwhile mainly for busy doors and households with several regular users.

First, the terminology matters: this is ADT+, not Nest Secure

The headline “ADT and Nest security system” describes the broader relationship between ADT security equipment and Google Nest devices. It should not be read as a reference to Google’s discontinued Nest Secure hardware.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Today, ADT’s relevant platform is ADT+. ADT+ brings together ADT security products, Yale devices and selected Google Nest products such as cameras and doorbells. The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch is an ADT-supported smart lock in that ecosystem. ADT’s current overview describes the relationship between ADT+, Google Nest and Yale devices here.

That distinction is important if you previously used Nest Secure or own an older Nest x Yale Lock. Do not assume that legacy Nest hardware can substitute for the Yale model and system configuration ADT currently supports.

  • UNLOCK WITH YOUR FINGERPRINT: The one key that is completely unique to you, and can never be lost or duplicated. With a 99% accuracy and <0.5 recognition time, your fingerprint is the fastest and most secure way to unlock your home. Note: This product only works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and in the U.S. and Canada.
  • NO LOCKSMITH NEEDED: The lock replaces your deadbolt on most standard US entry doors using just a screwdriver; no DIY experience required.
  • HANDS FULL? NO PROBLEM. A door that auto-unlocks as you approach - now that’s a warm welcome. With this hands-free option, you don’t need to touch your lock or your phone. Always let Yale get the door.
  • DON’T WORRY, IT'S LOCKED: Never worry again about remembering to lock the door with Auto-Lock.
  • SECURITY AT YOUR FINGERTIPS. The one key that can never be lost or duplicated — your fingerprint. Also, ensure only the right people have access with two-factor authentication, biometric verification, and matte keypads for fingerprint resistance.

What the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch does

The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch is the fingerprint-enabled version of the Yale Assure Lock 2. It is battery-operated, includes a backup keyway and supports multiple ways to enter:

  • Fingerprint access, with ADT advertising support for up to 20 fingerprints.
  • Up to 250 entry codes, according to ADT’s smart-home product information.
  • ADT+ app control where supported.
  • Google Home lock and unlock control as part of the wider smart-home integration.
  • A physical key for backup access.

The fingerprint sensor is the obvious hardware difference from the standard Assure Lock 2. The more consequential software feature is the potential connection between the lock and the alarm system: on supported ADT+ configurations, ADT says a touch can unlock and disarm, or lock and rearm, the system. See ADT’s product announcement for its description of that behavior: Introducing the Yale Touch Lock.

This is best understood as a smoother handoff between two actions you already perform—entering the house and changing the alarm state—not as a new type of alarm protection.

How fingerprint entry works in ADT+

ADT’s current setup path for the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch is:

  1. Open the ADT+ app.
  2. Go to Devices.
  3. Select Lock.
  4. Open Device Information.
  5. Tap Fingerprint.
  6. Tap Add Fingerprint.
  7. Follow the enrollment prompts.

ADT documents the procedure, app distinctions and compatibility considerations in its Yale Assure Lock 2 and Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch support article.

Once enrolled, a resident can use a finger rather than opening an app or remembering a code. The original hands-on report described enrollment taking approximately 30 to 60 seconds and unlocking taking roughly one or two seconds in that writer’s experience. Those figures are personal observations, not controlled performance measurements, so they should not be treated as a guaranteed response time.

Does touching the lock disarm ADT?

Sometimes, on the right ADT+ setup—not universally on every ADT system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ADT says the Yale Touch Lock can unlock and disarm the ADT+ system with one touch, and lock and rearm it with one touch. However, the exact result depends on the supported hub, lock module, app, enrollment and account configuration. ADT’s support material distinguishes ADT+ from older Command & Control systems, whose instructions and capabilities are not interchangeable.

Before purchasing, ask ADT to confirm all of the following for your account:

  • That your system uses ADT+ or another explicitly supported configuration.
  • That the specific Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch and its Z-Wave connection are supported.
  • Whether an exterior fingerprint unlock will disarm the alarm automatically, require a setting or rule, or merely unlock the door.
  • Whether locking from inside, using a code, using the app or using Google Home produces the same alarm behavior.

“The lock unlocks” and “the monitored alarm disarms” are separate claims. Treat them separately when checking compatibility.

What Google Home and Nest can—and cannot—do here

ADT describes its smart-home ecosystem as compatible with Google Home, and the original hands-on report observed basic lock and unlock control through Google Home. That does not establish that Google Home exposes every ADT security function.

These actions should not be conflated:

  • Locking or unlocking: changing the Yale lock’s state.
  • Disarming: changing the state of a monitored ADT security system.
  • Automation: causing another device or service to respond to an event.
  • Camera control: viewing or managing Google Nest cameras and doorbells.
  • Access management: enrolling fingerprints, creating codes or revoking guests.

Depending on the integration and security permissions, Google Home may handle a lock command without offering the same authority as the ADT+ app. Fingerprint enrollment and access administration should be handled through the documented ADT process rather than assumed to be Google Home functions.

Trusted Neighbor is a separate, less certain feature

The original 2025 report discussed ADT’s Nest-powered Trusted Neighbor feature, in which camera recognition and the ADT app could be used to unlock the door for approved friends or family. That is different from a resident presenting an enrolled fingerprint at the lock.

Current availability of Trusted Neighbor was not confirmed by the official sources used for this article. Do not purchase the Yale Touch Lock assuming that camera-based automatic unlocking is included or currently available on your account. Confirm the feature, supported devices, permissions and regional availability directly with ADT.

It also deserves stricter scrutiny than local fingerprint entry. Automatic unlocking based on camera recognition introduces additional privacy and security questions: who is recognized, under what conditions, what happens after a false match and how the permission is revoked.

Yale Assure Lock 2 versus Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch

ADT’s product page displayed these prices when checked for this article:

Model Displayed ADT price What you get
Yale Assure Lock 2 $209.99 Smart locking, app access and codes without the fingerprint sensor
Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch $299.99 The standard lock’s core functions plus fingerprint access

The displayed difference is approximately $90, rather than the $70 difference reported in the August 2025 hands-on article. Prices, promotions, installation charges and eligibility can change; check the current ADT products page before buying.

Pay for the Touch model when:

  • The front door is used many times every day.
  • Several household members need individual access.
  • Children, caregivers or trusted guests need access without sharing a single code.
  • Opening an app or entering a code is regularly inconvenient.
  • You specifically want the supported lock-to-alarm handoff.

Choose the standard model when:

  • The door is rarely used.
  • Codes and app access already solve the access problem.
  • You are price-sensitive.
  • You prefer not to use biometric entry.
  • You already own a compatible smart lock and do not need the Touch model’s fingerprint feature.

The fingerprint sensor is most valuable on a high-traffic primary entry door. On a seldom-used side door, the standard lock may deliver nearly all of the practical benefit for less.

Compatibility and installation checklist

Do not order based solely on the phrase “smart lock.” ADT warns that the Yale lock does not fit every door and requires measuring before purchase. Check the door’s deadbolt arrangement, thickness, backset, clearance and surrounding trim against the manufacturer and ADT requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also verify:

  • Your current ADT app and platform: ADT+ instructions do not automatically apply to older Command & Control systems.
  • The exact Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch model supplied for your ADT configuration.
  • That the lock’s Z-Wave connection can reach the supported ADT hub.
  • Whether you are buying the lock alone or as part of an ADT system package.
  • Whether professional installation is required or preferred.
  • What happens to the lock and alarm functions if the internet, hub or app is unavailable.

A door can have a perfectly powered lock and still fail to lock if the deadbolt rubs against the strike plate. Correct door alignment is therefore as important as wireless connectivity. If the bolt does not move smoothly by hand, resolve that mechanical problem before blaming the smart-home system.

Security and privacy trade-offs

Fingerprint entry is convenient, but biometric access is not automatically safer than a well-managed code. A code can be changed or revoked after it is exposed. A fingerprint cannot be replaced in the same way, so enroll only the people who need access and remove permissions promptly when circumstances change.

Individual codes can also be preferable for temporary guests, cleaners or contractors because they are easier to issue for a limited period and then revoke. Use a fingerprint for regular residents only if its convenience outweighs the reduced replaceability of biometric credentials.

Automatic disarming deserves particular care. Unlocking the door may have a larger security consequence than simply changing the lock state. Confirm which users and entry methods can disarm the system, and ensure that everyone in the household understands the alarm behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep a fallback method available. ADT lists a backup keyway, and alternative codes or app access may help when a finger is not recognized. Fingerprint readers can be less convenient when a finger is wet, dirty, injured or otherwise difficult for the sensor to read. That is a practical limitation to plan for, not a measured failure rate.

What to do when something goes wrong

  • Finger not recognized: Try another enrolled finger, clean and dry the sensor, then use the code, ADT+ app or physical key.
  • Dead batteries: Follow the lock’s emergency-power or backup-key procedure. Do not rely exclusively on biometric entry.
  • Deadbolt will not move: Check door alignment and the strike plate. Smart connectivity cannot correct a binding door.
  • Setup menu is missing: Confirm that you are using ADT+ and that the lock is enrolled under the correct device. Older app instructions may not apply.
  • Door unlocks but the alarm remains armed: Do not assume this is a fault. Ask ADT to verify the supported lock/alarm configuration and its settings.
  • Internet or app outage: Determine in advance which functions operate locally and which require the ADT hub, app or cloud service.
  • Guest needs access: Decide whether a temporary code, app permission or fingerprint is appropriate. A code is generally easier to revoke than a biometric credential.
  • Legacy Nest hardware is involved: Confirm compatibility rather than assuming a Nest x Yale Lock purchased for an older Nest setup works as an ADT+ replacement.

Consider the total ADT cost

The lock’s price is only part of the decision if you do not already have the required ADT system. ADT’s product page displayed Pro Monitoring starting at $29.99 per month in one offer structure, with system-purchase and contract conditions. ADT also indicates that terms can differ between self-setup and professional installation; one offer structure references a one-month minimum for self-setup and 36-month terms for professional installation.

Actual hardware, monitoring, installation, taxes, regional availability, promotions and cancellation terms may vary. Review the quote and contract rather than evaluating the fingerprint reader as a standalone $90 upgrade. If you only want a biometric deadbolt and do not need ADT monitoring or ADT+ integration, an ADT package may be more system than you need.

Who should buy the Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch?

Buy it when you already use—or are deliberately choosing—an eligible ADT+ system, have a compatible primary door and want frequent, low-friction entry for several regular users. The integrated lock/alarm behavior is the strongest reason to choose it over an ordinary fingerprint lock.

Choose the standard Yale Assure Lock 2 when codes and app control are sufficient, the door sees little traffic or the premium is difficult to justify. Choose another platform when you do not want ADT’s broader ecosystem, monitoring or potential contract obligations, but verify that any alternative actually supports the ADT functions you need before treating it as equivalent.

Bottom line

The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch takes ADT’s current Google Nest-compatible smart-home experience a step forward mainly by making entry feel connected: on supported ADT+ configurations, one touch can combine unlocking with disarming, and locking with rearming. That is a useful refinement for a busy household, not a revolutionary change to alarm protection.

Before buying, confirm the ADT platform, exact lock-to-alarm behavior, door fit, installation requirements and current price. At the displayed prices checked here, the Touch model costs about $90 more than the standard Yale Assure Lock 2. For a high-traffic front door, that premium can be reasonable; for an infrequently used door, codes and app control may be the better value.
