Robert De Niro’s real-estate story is largely centered on New York, but the properties linked to him span very different roles: an inherited beach house, a reported upstate estate, former city homes, rentals, a London apartment and an investment in a hotel. Architectural Digest and Realtor.com reported these details in 2026; they are not a deed-verified inventory of what he owns today.

What is known about De Niro’s real estate portfolio?

The reported portfolio is best understood as a history of property connections, not a list of confirmed current holdings. Some accounts describe homes he bought or inherited; others cover residences he later sold, apartments he rented, or a hotel business interest. The distinction matters: an address associated with De Niro is not necessarily a property he owns now.

The overview below draws on Architectural Digest’s July 23, 2026 feature and Realtor.com’s August 28, 2026 feature. The outlets reported the figures and histories cited here; property records, corporate filings and current listings were not independently checked.

Property Reported connection What the reports say
Montauk, New York Inherited beach house Architectural Digest reported a roughly 1.5-acre beachfront property, a 2,278-square-foot house and about 740 square feet of decking. Realtor.com reported it was built in 1950 and a 2017 request to demolish and rebuild was denied.
Gardiner, New York Reported estate acquisition Realtor.com reported a 1997 purchase with Grace Hightower for $1.5 million, followed by an adjacent 45-acre parcel; it described 123 acres in total. Architectural Digest reported a 2,222-square-foot main house on the original 78-acre parcel.
West Village, Manhattan Former townhouse Architectural Digest reported a 1975 purchase and 2012 sale. Realtor.com reported a later 2021 sale after the property was listed in 2019.
Southwark, London Former apartment Architectural Digest reported a 2001 purchase and a 2018 relisting after De Niro had sold it; the precise sale date is unclear.
Central Park West, Manhattan Former shared home Architectural Digest reported a 2006 purchase with Hightower and her March 2025 sale of the apartment.
Greenwich Hotel, Manhattan Business interest and guest suite Architectural Digest described De Niro as a partial owner. Realtor.com reported the hotel opened in 2008 with 88 rooms; its penthouse suite is available to guests.

Which properties are associated with New York?

Montauk: the inherited beach house

Architectural Digest reported that De Niro inherited the Montauk house from his father, painter Robert De Niro Sr., after his father died in 1993. The outlet described a 2,278-square-foot home on roughly 1.5 acres of beachfront property, plus about 740 square feet of decking. Realtor.com reported that the house was built in 1950 and that a 2017 application to demolish and rebuild it was denied. Those reports do not establish the property’s present ownership or condition.

Gardiner: the large upstate estate

Realtor.com reported that De Niro and Grace Hightower acquired the Gardiner property in 1997 for $1.5 million. Its account describes an original 78-acre parcel and a later adjacent 45-acre acquisition, for 123 acres total. Architectural Digest reported that the main house measures 2,222 square feet.

The outlets described a renovated farmhouse and an extensive collection of additional spaces and amenities, including guest structures, a 14,000-square-foot recreation barn, gym, boxing and game rooms, a small film studio, offices, a tennis court and a ski slope. These are reported descriptions, not independently surveyed measurements.

Realtor.com also recounted a tax-assessment dispute involving the trust used to hold the estate. Its report says the trust challenged a $6 million assessment, the town raised the assessment to $9 million after an inspection, and the matter ended with agreement to the original $6 million valuation and payment of $129,000 in town legal fees. That is a secondary account of the dispute, not a legal-record review.

West Village: a townhouse later sold

Architectural Digest reported that De Niro bought a 5,000-square-foot Italianate townhouse in 1975 for $190,000 and sold it in 2012 for $9.5 million. Realtor.com reported that it was listed for $22.8 million in 2019 and sold in 2021 for $11.98 million. The later listing and sale are part of the home’s subsequent history, not evidence of De Niro’s current ownership.

Architectural Digest says the townhouse was built in 1852 and had three bedrooms. Realtor.com described later restoration and passive-house features in listing copy. These post-ownership details belong to the property’s later marketing and renovation history.

Central Park West and other Manhattan rentals

Architectural Digest reported that De Niro and Hightower bought a fifth-floor Central Park West apartment in 2006 for $20.9 million. The family was away when the apartment was extensively damaged in a 2012 fire. The outlet reported that Hightower sold the 5,800-square-foot unit in March 2025 for $18 million; it should be treated as a former shared residence, not a current De Niro home.

Architectural Digest also reported two rental episodes after the fire and in 2012. De Niro and Hightower rented a Greenwich Village duplex penthouse for about two years; the outlet gave its size as 11,000 square feet indoors, with 5,200 square feet of outdoor space, and said it sold in 2018. Separately, De Niro reportedly rented a 6,000-square-foot, full-floor Upper West Side apartment in 2012 for $125,000 per month; it returned to market by 2014. These were rentals, not reported purchases.

What was De Niro’s connection to London?

Architectural Digest reported that De Niro paid £750,000—about $1 million at the time, according to the outlet—in 2001 for a two-bedroom, 2,100-square-foot loft in a converted jam factory in Southwark. The apartment was reportedly back on the market in 2018 for $2.16 million, after De Niro had sold it. The exact disposal date is unclear, so the 2018 relisting should not be presented as his sale date.

Is the Greenwich Hotel penthouse his home?

The sources describe the Greenwich Hotel as a business interest connected to De Niro, not simply a personal residence. Architectural Digest calls him a partial owner with Ira Drukier. Realtor.com reported that the hotel opened in 2008 in partnership with Drukier, Richard Born and De Niro’s son Raphael, and described an 88-room property with a restaurant.

Architectural Digest says Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki designed the 6,800-square-foot, three-bedroom penthouse suite in 2014. The suite is offered to hotel guests, so its size and design do not establish that it is De Niro’s private home.

What the reported portfolio does—and does not—show

  • The reports portray a largely New York-centered property history, with connections ranging from inherited and acquired homes to rentals and sold residences.
  • Gardiner is the largest reported residential holding by acreage in these accounts, but the parcel figures and amenity descriptions have not been independently verified here.
  • The West Village townhouse, Central Park West apartment and London loft have reported sale histories; they should not be treated as current holdings.
  • The hotel penthouse is a guest suite associated with a hotel business interest, not proof of a personal residence.

Neither feature provides a comprehensive title-verified list of De Niro’s current holdings. The reports do not settle every property’s present ownership, independently validate all dimensions or acreage, or establish current rental availability.
