For a 24-inch opening, Bosch lists the SGX78C55UC; for a narrower 18-inch bay, it lists the SPE68B55UC. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results, and the dishwasher label alone does not establish that the installed kitchen meets accessibility requirements.
Compare Two Bosch ADA-Designated Dishwashers
Bosch describes its shorter 24-inch dishwashers as meeting ADA standards for customers with special height requirements. The exact appliance and required cutout dimensions still matter: measure the finished opening and check the installation instructions for the specific model before ordering.

Measure Before You Shop
- Measure the finished opening. Record height from finished floor to the underside of the counter, width between cabinets, and available depth. Compare those measurements with the exact model’s required cutout, not just its appliance dimensions.
- Account for the floor and counter. Existing flooring, a counter that is not level, or flooring installed after the old dishwasher can affect clearance and removal. Check these conditions before ordering.
- Check the door swing and adjacent space. Confirm that the open door will not block needed clear floor space beside the dishwasher or at the sink.
- Confirm the utilities. Check water supply, drain, and electrical locations against the model’s installation instructions or have a qualified installer verify them. Bosch notes that plumbing installations vary and directs users to the installation instructions for final dimensional data.
- Match the capacity to your routine. The 24-inch Bosch example is rated for 15 place settings and the 18-inch example for 10. Consider whether the narrower model’s capacity suits the household’s dishwashing needs.
Accessibility Is About the Whole Layout
The U.S. Department of Justice’s 2010 ADA Standards, section 804.6.3, says clear floor or ground space should be positioned adjacent to the dishwasher door. With the door open, it must not obstruct clear floor or ground space for the dishwasher or the sink. A product designation does not determine whether the full kitchen layout complies.
Before buying, consider the user’s approach to the appliance, door and control usability, and whether loading and unloading feel manageable. If the layout or installation is uncertain, consult a qualified designer or installer familiar with the applicable requirements.

Does an ADA-designated dishwasher make a kitchen ADA-compliant?
No. The designation applies to the product, not the whole kitchen. The DOJ’s 2010 ADA Standards include a dishwasher-specific requirement for adjacent clear floor space and say the open door must not obstruct clear space for the dishwasher or sink.
Is the GE GDT226SGLBB a current option?
GE says the model is no longer manufactured, even though its product page remains available. Confirm exact-model stock with a seller before considering it.
