Replacing cabinet handles, pulls, and knobs is one of the fastest ways to make a kitchen, bath, laundry room, mudroom, or built-in look more finished. IKEA is a useful source because the selection is broad, the prices are transparent, and many pieces work on non-IKEA cabinets as long as the screw length, hole spacing, and door thickness are compatible.
As of 2026, IKEA’s US cabinet hardware category lists 58 knobs and handles, including knobs, bar handles, cup pulls, long profile handles, and clip-on no-drill options. Many are sold in 2-packs, with common prices around $7 to $17 per 2-pack. At the low end, GUBBARP knobs are listed at $0.75 per 2-pack, or roughly $0.38 per knob. At the higher end, extra-long BILLSBRO handles reach $34 each for an 87 3/8-inch handle.
The key is not simply picking the best-looking handle. On our job sites, we treat cabinet hardware like a small finish package: count every door and drawer, confirm sizes, mark placements, drill clean holes, and think about how the hardware will feel after thousands of uses. A $5 handle can look custom when installed correctly. A $17 pull can look sloppy if it is crooked, undersized, or placed where your hand fights the cabinet.
Why IKEA Hardware Works Beyond IKEA Cabinets
IKEA knobs and pulls are not limited to IKEA kitchens. They can upgrade bathroom vanities, laundry cabinets, pantry doors, mudroom lockers, closet systems, dressers, garage storage, office built-ins, and older builder-grade cabinets. The question is whether the hardware physically fits the front.

Before buying a full set, check four measurements:
- Door or drawer-front thickness: Many cabinet fronts are around 3/4 inch thick, but older doors, drawer boxes, and furniture fronts vary.
- Center-to-center spacing: This is the distance between screw holes on a pull. Measure from the center of one hole to the center of the other.
- Projection: This is how far the handle sticks out from the surface. Make sure fingers fit comfortably behind it.
- Screw length: Screws must bite properly without bottoming out or poking through the face.
If you are replacing existing pulls, center-to-center spacing is the first deal breaker. If your old pull has 3 3/4-inch spacing and the new one is 5 5/8 inches, you will need to drill new holes and either fill the old ones or cover them with a backplate. That can be fine before painting or refacing. It is more risky on stained wood, glossy laminate, veneer, or discontinued cabinet fronts.
IKEA examples cover a useful range. Small knobs commonly run around 13/16 inch to 1 3/16 inches. Small pulls include sizes around 3 1/2 inches to 5 5/8 inches. Medium pulls run from about 6 inches to 13 inches. Longer appliance-style or profile handles start around 15 inches and can extend much farther, including BILLSBRO options at 33 inches and 87 3/8 inches.
2026 IKEA Hardware Costs: What to Budget
For a basic hardware refresh, IKEA’s pricing makes the material side predictable. A small vanity may need 4 to 8 pieces. A modest kitchen may need 20 to 35 pieces. A larger kitchen with an island, pantry wall, and built-ins can easily need 40 to 70 pieces.
For DIY, a small refresh can land around $20 to $150 in IKEA hardware, plus $5 for the FIXA drill template and a few extra dollars for bits, painter’s tape, clamps, or a backer block if you do not already own them. For professional installation, a straightforward same-day swap often falls around $100 to $500, depending on quantity, layout, and whether new holes are needed. Angi’s 2026 data shows a broad cabinet hardware installation range of $100 to $10,000, with an average around $300. Home Depot describes a simple cabinet-pull job as commonly averaging $100 to $300. Homewyse’s May 2026 national average starts at $31.34 to $48.82 per handle installed, which reflects layout, setup, drilling, minimum labor charges, and job conditions rather than just turning screws.

| Hardware or Service | 2026 US Cost Example | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| GUBBARP knob | $0.75 per 2-pack, about $0.38 each | Budget cabinet, laundry, utility, or rental refresh |
| DRAGSMARK clip-on handle | $4 per 2-pack, about $2 each | No-drill trial, renter-friendly upgrade, temporary use |
| LATMASK clip-on handle | $5 per 2-pack, about $2.50 each | No-drill cabinet or drawer-front update |
| BAGGANAS 5 5/8-inch stainless handle | $10 per 2-pack, about $5 each | Clean modern kitchens, baths, laundry cabinets |
| KALERUM 5 7/16-inch brass handle | $11 per 2-pack, about $5.50 each | Warm transitional or modern cabinet fronts |
| ENERYDA 3 1/2-inch brass cup pull | $13 per 2-pack, about $6.50 each | Traditional drawers, vanities, furniture pieces |
| BORGHAMN handle | $17 per 2-pack, about $8.50 each | Heavier-looking kitchens, utility rooms, built-ins |
| BILLSBRO 33-inch handle | $24 per 2-pack, about $12 each | Tall doors, wide drawers, integrated modern fronts |
| BILLSBRO 87 3/8-inch handle | $34 each | Long profile applications and specialty cabinet runs |
| FIXA drill template | $5 | Repeatable hole placement for DIY installation |
Material cost is only part of the decision. The expensive mistake is not buying the wrong $10 pull. It is drilling the wrong hole in a finished front. One misplaced hole can lead to patching, paint matching, veneer repair, or replacement of a door or drawer front. That is why we build the schedule before drilling.
Knobs, Pulls, Cup Pulls, and Clip-On Handles
Knobs
Knobs are simple, inexpensive, and forgiving because they usually need one hole. IKEA options such as ENERYDA brass knobs, listed at $9 per 2-pack for the 1 1/16-inch size, can work well on cabinet doors, small drawers, linen cabinets, and furniture. The limitation is grip. Small knobs are not ideal for heavy drawers, trash pull-outs, pantry pull-outs, or aging-in-place design.
Bar Handles and Pulls
Pulls are usually the better choice where force matters. A 5 5/8-inch BAGGANAS handle, listed at $10 per 2-pack, gives more leverage than a small knob. Pulls are especially useful on deep pot drawers, pull-out shelves, appliance garages, tall pantry fronts, and under-sink trash systems. For users with grip limitations, pulls are typically easier than small round knobs.
Cup Pulls
Cup pulls, such as the ENERYDA brass cup pull at $13 per 2-pack, bring a more traditional furniture-like look. They work best on drawers because the hand naturally pulls from below. They are less practical on many doors because the direction of pull can feel awkward, especially on upper cabinets.
Clip-On Handles
IKEA clip-on handles such as DRAGSMARK at $4 per 2-pack and LATMASK at $5 per 2-pack are useful when you want a no-drill option. They are a good fit for renters, temporary cabinets, trial periods, dorm storage, or anyone who wants to test color and hand clearance before committing to drilled hardware. They are not the same as a permanently fastened pull, so we would not treat them as the right answer for a heavy daily-use trash pull-out or a long-term custom kitchen.

How to Choose the Right Size
Scale matters. A tiny knob on a 36-inch drawer looks underpowered and feels that way. A long pull on a narrow door can look crowded. The goal is a balanced relationship between the hardware, the cabinet front, and the force needed to open it.
For small doors and drawers under about 18 inches wide, knobs or short pulls can work. For common kitchen drawers from about 18 to 30 inches wide, pulls in the 3 1/2-inch to 6-inch range are common, though longer pulls can look more contemporary. For drawers wider than about 30 inches, many hardware layouts use either one longer pull or two smaller pulls placed symmetrically.
A practical rule is to choose a pull close to one-third of the drawer width when the design supports it. That means a 24-inch drawer may look good with an 8-inch pull, while a 36-inch drawer may call for a 12-inch pull or two smaller pulls. This is a guideline, not a law. Slab fronts, Shaker fronts, inset cabinets, and modern full-overlay cabinets all carry hardware differently.

IKEA’s stainless-steel filtered category shows 19 items, ranging from $7 per 2-pack for some knobs or short handles to $24 per 2-pack for 33-inch BILLSBRO handles and $34 for the 87 3/8-inch BILLSBRO handle. Those longer pieces can be effective, but they need careful alignment because even a small error reads clearly across a tall surface.
Placement Rules That Actually Work
Hardware placement should look intentional and feel natural. Before drilling, make a hardware schedule listing every door and drawer, hardware type, size, finish, orientation, and exact placement. We do this even for small projects because repetition is where mistakes happen.
Cabinet Doors
For cabinet doors, a common practical placement range is about 2 1/2 to 3 inches from the top or bottom rail and 2 to 3 inches from the hinge-opposite edge. On upper doors, hardware usually sits near the lower corner. On base doors, it usually sits near the upper corner. Shaker doors often use the rail-and-stile geometry as a visual guide, while slab doors need more careful measuring because there are no frame lines to help.
Do not place a pull so close to the door edge that knuckles hit the adjacent cabinet, wall, or appliance panel. Also check pairs of doors. Two pulls should align cleanly with each other, and the gap between them should not feel cramped.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDrawers
For drawers, center the hardware horizontally in most cases. Vertically, dead center works for many shallow drawers. On deep drawers, especially pot drawers and pull-outs, placing the pull in the upper third often gives better leverage and looks more connected to the hand’s natural reach.
For very wide drawers, decide between one long pull and two smaller pulls before drilling. Two pulls can distribute force and look traditional, but they require more holes and more layout care. One long pull can look cleaner and is often easier to use with one hand.

Specialty Pull-Outs
Use pulls, not tiny knobs, on trash pull-outs, pantry pull-outs, appliance garages, mixer lifts, and deep drawers. Those parts take more force. A small knob concentrates that force into one point and can feel flimsy even if the cabinet is built well.
Finish Selection: Looks, Durability, and Cleaning
IKEA hardware includes stainless steel, chrome, black, brass-color, bronze-color, oak, leather, white, and colorful clip-on options. Choose the finish based on the room’s other finishes and how much abuse the hardware will take.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIn high-touch kitchens and baths, stainless steel and chrome are practical because they handle moisture, oils, and repeated cleaning well. Black can bridge modern and traditional schemes, but matte black finishes can show dust, mineral residue, and hand oils depending on the exact surface. Brass-color and bronze-color hardware add warmth and pair well with warmer lighting, wood tones, and natural stone. Oak and leather can look excellent on furniture, built-ins, and lower-traffic spaces, but they need more thoughtful use around water, grease, and harsh cleaners.
Do not force an exact match across every metal in the room. Coordinate by undertone. Stainless, chrome, and nickel read cooler. Brass, bronze, leather, and oak read warmer. Black often works as a bridge when hinges, faucets, lighting, and appliances are mixed. If your faucet is polished chrome and your lighting is warm brass, black cabinet pulls may calm the mix better than adding a third shiny metal.
Bring one cabinet door or drawer-front measurement to IKEA if you are shopping in person. Check projection, hand clearance, and screw fit before buying the whole quantity. If possible, buy one extra 2-pack and label it for future replacement. Hardware lines can change, and a missing matching pull three years later is harder to solve than storing two spares now.
Installation: How We Prevent Crooked Pulls and Torn Fronts
The basic installation steps are simple: measure, mark, drill, screw on the hardware. The quality comes from controlling the small variables.
Recommended Free Tools
Start by installing one test piece on an inconspicuous or easily replaceable front. If you are working on a kitchen, test on a less visible base cabinet or a spare front if you have one. Live with the feel for a day if the project schedule allows. Open the cabinet with wet hands, with one hand full, and from the angle you normally approach it. A placement that looks fine on paper may feel too low, too close to the edge, or too shallow for your fingers.
Use the $5 IKEA FIXA drill template or another accurate cabinet hardware jig for repeatable placement. Templates reduce measuring errors, especially when you are drilling 20, 30, or 50 fronts. Still, do not trust a template blindly. Confirm the first few marks with a tape measure or combination square, and check that doors are not reversed, upside down, or slightly different from each other.
Use painter’s tape over the drilling area so pencil marks are visible and the bit has a cleaner entry point. Drill straight, use the correct bit size, and do not force the drill through the finished face. Clamp a backer block behind the drilling area to reduce tear-out, especially on veneer, laminate, MDF, and painted fronts. Tear-out on the inside of a door may not show from across the room, but it can weaken the screw seat and looks careless when the cabinet is open.
If you are installing pulls with two screws, measure center-to-center carefully. A small error can twist the pull or make the screws bind. If the screws supplied with the hardware are too short or too long for a non-IKEA front, replace them with the correct machine screws rather than overtightening or adding awkward spacers. Tighten hardware snugly, but do not crush MDF, deform laminate, or crack a painted finish.
When to DIY and When to Hire a Pro
DIY makes sense when the project is limited, the fronts are replaceable, and you are comfortable measuring and drilling accurately. A 10-piece vanity or laundry cabinet refresh is a reasonable weekend job for a careful homeowner. Expect a small project to take 1 to 3 hours once you have the hardware and tools. A full kitchen with 25 to 45 pieces may take half a day or more for a first-time installer because layout and checking take longer than drilling.

Hire a pro when the cabinet fronts are expensive, discontinued, newly painted, veneer-faced, glossy, or part of a larger remodel. Also bring in help when you need to patch old holes, change pull spacing, install very long handles, align hardware across full-height cabinet runs, or work around integrated panels. Professional installation commonly costs around $100 to $500 for straightforward same-day work, but the cost can rise with high pull counts, custom jigs, fragile finishes, repairs, or local labor rates.
On our projects, we prefer to choose hardware before painting, refacing, or replacing fronts. That way old holes can be filled properly, sanded, primed, and finished before the new hardware goes on. Choosing hardware after the finish is complete can force compromises: using the old hole spacing, adding backplates, or accepting visible touch-ups.

Replacing cabinet knobs, handles, and pulls is usually a cosmetic hardware swap and does not require a building permit. That changes when the hardware work is part of a larger kitchen or bath remodel involving structure, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, or cabinet layout tied to those systems.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For example, changing pulls on an existing vanity is typically permit-free. Moving a sink, altering plumbing, relocating electrical outlets, modifying ventilation, removing walls, or changing structural framing may require permits depending on your jurisdiction. Oregon, Massachusetts, and many local building departments draw the same basic boundary: cosmetic finish work is treated differently from work that affects life safety, structure, utilities, or code-regulated systems.
Safety is mostly about drilling control and dust. Wear eye protection, clamp the work when possible, keep hands away from the back side of the bit, and use a sharp bit. If you are drilling old painted cabinets and suspect lead paint, stop and handle the project under proper lead-safe practices. For rental homes, get written permission before drilling permanent holes. Clip-on handles are often the better first move.
Good IKEA Hardware Pairings by Room
For modern kitchens, stainless BAGGANAS pulls or longer BILLSBRO handles work well with slab fronts, white cabinets, gray cabinets, and stainless appliances. The look is clean, and the finishes are practical for daily cleaning. For warm transitional kitchens, KALERUM brass handles or ENERYDA brass knobs can soften white, green, blue, or wood cabinets without making the room feel overly formal.
For bathrooms, prioritize finishes that handle moisture and repeated wiping. Stainless, chrome, and smoother painted metal are safer choices than absorbent or textured materials near sinks. For mudrooms and laundry rooms, durability matters more than delicacy. Pulls are easier to grab with wet hands, gloves, or a laundry basket in one arm.
For furniture upgrades, knobs and cup pulls can be more forgiving visually. A dresser, sideboard, or office cabinet may benefit from ENERYDA knobs or cup pulls, while clip-on handles can help test a color or profile before drilling. Just confirm screw length because furniture fronts often differ from kitchen cabinet fronts.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
The biggest mistake is drilling before the plan is complete. Count every door and drawer, mark the orientation, and order enough hardware in one batch so finishes match. Keep a labeled spare pack of screws and one or two extra handles or knobs.

The second mistake is choosing hardware only by appearance. A pull that looks good in a product photo may not give enough finger clearance. A knob that looks elegant may be frustrating on a heavy drawer. A long handle may interfere with a corner, appliance panel, or adjacent cabinet.
The third mistake is ignoring old holes. If you are reusing holes, confirm spacing before buying. If you are drilling new holes, decide how the old ones will be filled or hidden. On painted cabinets, this may be straightforward. On stained wood, veneer, laminate, or discontinued IKEA fronts, it can be expensive or impossible to make invisible.

The fourth mistake is mixing placements. If one upper cabinet pull is 2 1/2 inches from the rail and the next is 3 inches, the eye will catch it. Use a template, mark carefully, and check each front before drilling.
Bottom Line
IKEA handles, pulls, and knobs are a strong value when you treat them as finish hardware, not an afterthought. For 2026, homeowners can refresh a small area for under $150 in many cases, with individual pieces ranging from roughly $0.38 budget knobs to $12 long handles and $34 specialty-length handles. Add the $5 FIXA template, measure twice, test one piece, and use a backer block before drilling.
For a simple cabinet or furniture refresh, IKEA hardware is a practical DIY upgrade. For a full kitchen, fragile finishes, changed hole spacing, or new cabinet fronts, professional layout and installation can protect the investment. The handle is small. The hole is permanent.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do IKEA handles, pulls, and knobs cost in 2026?
IKEA US examples range from GUBBARP knobs at $0.75 per 2-pack, or about $0.38 each, to common knobs and pulls around $3.50 to $8.50 per piece. Longer BILLSBRO handles can cost about $12 each for the 33-inch size when sold as a $24 2-pack, and $34 each for the 87 3/8-inch handle.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Can IKEA cabinet handles be used on non-IKEA cabinets?
Yes, if the screw length, door or drawer-front thickness, projection, and center-to-center hole spacing work. Measure existing holes before buying replacement pulls. If the new spacing differs, you will need to drill new holes and deal with the old ones.
Do you need a permit to replace cabinet knobs or pulls?
Usually no. Replacing cabinet hardware is typically cosmetic work. Permits may be required if the project also changes structure, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, or a cabinet layout tied to those systems.
What size drawer pulls should I choose?
For drawers under about 18 inches wide, knobs or short pulls can work. For 18- to 30-inch drawers, pulls around 3 1/2 to 6 inches are common. For drawers wider than about 30 inches, consider one longer pull or two smaller pulls placed symmetrically.
Are IKEA clip-on handles good for renters?
Yes, options such as DRAGSMARK and LATMASK are useful because they do not require drilling permanent holes. They are best for light to moderate use, temporary upgrades, and testing placement before committing to permanent hardware.
Should kitchen cabinets use knobs, pulls, or both?
A mix can work well. Knobs are simple for doors and small drawers, while pulls are better for heavy drawers, trash pull-outs, pantry pull-outs, appliance garages, and aging-in-place comfort. Keep the finish and placement consistent so the room feels planned.
