A Samsung dryer that drops its remaining time to 1 minute usually means the machine has sensed, or estimated, that the load is close to the dryness level you selected. It does not, by itself, prove a failed part. If the clothes are still damp when the cycle ends, the problem is most often airflow: a clogged lint filter or a restricted exhaust vent that keeps heat and moisture from leaving the drum. Work through the checks below in order, and confirm each step against your exact model’s manual, because controls and diagnostics differ between Samsung models.
What the 1-minute display is telling you
Samsung describes two basic drying behaviors, and the remaining-time display means different things under each.

Because the countdown on a Sensor Dry cycle is tied to moisture readings, a jump to 1 minute is not a diagnosis. The symptom that matters is the outcome: a load that finishes still damp. Some Samsung Members community posts describe a time display that skips to 1 minute and then shuts off, and community members suggest that the displayed time is adjusted for humidity. Those are user explanations, not a Samsung diagnosis, so treat them as a reason to check the machine rather than as a confirmed cause.
Check the basics first
Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance for clothes that are not dry points to the same first steps. Work through them in this order, and only move on if the problem continues.

- Confirm the cycle and options. Make sure you are on the intended cycle. A Sensor Dry program stops on moisture, so an aggressive dryness setting or a light-load selection can end a cycle sooner than you expect. Some options and controls vary by model, so check the manual for your exact model.
- Clean the lint filter. Remove the filter, clear the lint from the screen, and wipe away any film of fabric softener residue. Samsung lists the lint filter as an early check when clothes are not drying. A blocked screen reduces airflow, and the dryer can stop before the load is truly dry.
- Inspect the exhaust vent and its installation. Look at the duct from the dryer back to the outside. Check for crushed or kinked flexible duct, sagging runs that trap lint, and a damper that does not open freely. Samsung explains that a dirty or restricted exhaust path can stop heat and moisture from escaping properly and can lengthen drying. Follow your model’s vent length and material requirements.
- Check for displayed information codes. Note any code on the display before you reset the machine. Samsung advises following its error-code guidance, because some codes call for service or a different troubleshooting path rather than another round of user checks.
If the load still finishes damp after these steps, the cause is not established from the display alone. The model and any code are what narrow it down.
The Vent Blockage test: use it only if your model has it
Samsung states that not every dryer includes a Vent Blockage test. Where it is available, the support instructions call for an empty drum and a dryer that has cooled sufficiently before starting. The button sequence and the way the result is shown are model-dependent. Do not apply a button combination from a different Samsung model or from a forum post. Find the test, if any, in the manual for your exact model.

A passing test does not replace routine cleaning. Samsung recommends cleaning the exhaust vent once or twice a year, and it advises periodic cleaning even when a blockage test passes.
Wrinkle Prevent can look like a drying fault
Wrinkle Prevent can keep tumbling laundry after a drying cycle has finished. Samsung says the feature runs for a model-dependent period and stops when the door is opened. Some displays show a scrolling indicator while it is active. If the drum turns intermittently after the cycle ends, check whether Wrinkle Prevent is enabled before assuming the dryer is still in a heated drying cycle. Tumbling without heat is not the same as the 1-minute drying problem.

If the basic checks do not resolve the problem, contact Samsung support or a qualified appliance repair provider. When you compare providers, look at these points before you agree to a repair:
- Whether the provider serves your area.
- Credentials, and whether the technician is Samsung-authorized.
- The diagnostic fee and whether it is credited toward the repair.

Optional tool for the vent step
A dryer vent cleaning brush can help with the exhaust step, provided it suits your duct type and your dryer’s manual. It is not a guaranteed fix for a 1-minute cycle that leaves clothes damp, and it should never be forced through a duct in a way that tears or disconnects it.
