On a Samsung dryer, dC is a door-related code. It means the control cannot confirm that the door is closed and secured. In most cases the fix starts at the door: make sure it closes fully, nothing is caught in it, the latch is seated, and Child Lock is not on. A code that returns after those checks points to a service visit rather than a guessed part replacement.
What the dC code means
Samsung’s US dryer troubleshooting guidance groups dC with other door codes, including dE, dF, do, d0, 1 DC and 1 dF. Samsung describes these codes as relating to the door, its latch, and the sensors that detect whether they are secured correctly. In practical terms, the dryer is telling you that the door will not stay closed, will not close, or will not latch. Samsung’s own wording for the group is: “These are related to the door, its latch, and the sensors that detect whether they are secured correctly.”

Code wording varies by region and model. Samsung Caribbean’s regional code table describes dC/dE as “Door is open” and advises closing the door and starting again. The same table notes that a code may differ by model, so the label on your display and the code list in your manual should be checked before you act on any single description.
Check the door before anything else
The door checks come first because they are quick and resolve most cases. Work through them in this order:

- Look for trapped laundry. Open the door and check the gasket edge and the door seal for a sock, towel corner, or garment strap. Even a small item can stop the door from sealing.
- Close the door firmly. Push until you hear it latch. Make sure the door sits flush with the cabinet all the way around rather than resting slightly ajar.
- Check the latch. Confirm the latch is securely fixed in place and not loose, bent, or sitting out of line with its catch.
- Check Child Lock. Samsung’s regional guide says Child Lock can cause the message to appear when the door is opened, even when the dryer is not operating. If Child Lock is on, turn it off using the control panel and try the door again.
- Restart the cycle. With the door closed and secured, start the dryer again and see whether dC returns.
When the code comes back
If dC returns after the checks above, the cause is no longer obvious from the outside. Samsung’s guidance says to request service if the code cannot be corrected or if the door or latch is visibly damaged. Samsung’s regional guide also lists dF as an incorrect door switch and recommends contacting a service center if that code remains.
Official guidance does not say how often dC is caused by a worn latch compared with laundry caught in the door or a closure fault. For that reason, treat the checks above as the order to follow, not as a probability ranking.

A reset can clear a code, but it is not a repair. Samsung describes a general reset as unplugging the dryer or switching off its circuit breaker, waiting usually one to five minutes, and then restoring power. Where the code has prescribed troubleshooting, complete that first and reset afterward.
Avoid resetting repeatedly. Clearing a returning code can erase stored error history that a technician would use to diagnose the fault. If dC comes back after you have completed the door checks, make one reset attempt at most, then request service and mention the code and the steps you have already taken.

Do not replace the latch just because dC appears. A failed latch is one possible cause, but the code itself does not isolate a failed part, and Samsung’s guidance begins with closure and obstruction checks. A door latch or lock assembly becomes a candidate only when inspection shows visible damage or when the door will not hold closed after the checks pass.
Before buying any part, confirm your exact dryer model. Samsung’s US dryer support portal offers model-code lookup, manuals, warranty information, and repair requests. A part that fits a similar model can still be the wrong assembly, so compare the part number against your model’s listing before ordering.

The right order is short: check the door, check the latch, turn off Child Lock if it is on, restart, and call Samsung support with the model number if dC persists or the latch is damaged.
