The right tablesaw outfeed table plan is the one that fits your saw, supports the stock you cut, and works in your shop without obstructing the saw’s guard, fence, controls, or dust collection. Before cutting material, measure the saw and available floor space, confirm the mounting details, and check the blade-guard or splitter’s full range of movement. No single set of dimensions suits every saw.
What an outfeed table does
An outfeed table supports and catches a workpiece as it leaves the saw, giving long stock a level surface beyond the blade. The Grizzly G1023RLW manual describes placing a table behind the saw to catch the workpiece and improve ease and safety (Grizzly G1023RLW manual). It is a support surface, not a replacement for safe operating practices or the saw’s guarding.
Choose a plan by how you use your shop
Plans range from compact folding fixtures to large tables that combine outfeed support with storage or assembly space. Compare their published dimensions as examples of different approaches, not as interchangeable recommendations.
| Design | Published details | Questions to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Folding fixture | WOOD Magazine’s plan is approximately 24 × 36 inches, folds to add only inches when stored, and provides more than 3 feet of stock support beyond the blade. The plan page was updated in 2024 and the design originally appeared in WOOD issue 117, October 1999. | Is compact storage your priority? Can your saw’s rear structure support the planned mounting? |
| Freestanding table with storage | Infinity Tools offers a plan described as a nine-page set of measured drawings with an editable SketchUp file. Its design emphasizes a flat outfeed surface and organized storage. | Can you spare the floor area? Would storage help, and do you want an editable model to adapt? |
| Outfeed and assembly table | The Wood Whisperer plan measures 48 × 60 inches and is 34–36 inches high, with six drawers, two shelves behind doors, and a table-sled shelf. The height range assumes leveling feet adjustable from 0 to 2 inches. | Will the footprint fit? Does the saw’s working height suit the plan, or will its dimensions need to change? |
| Manufacturer accessory | Bosch’s TS1016 extends 18 inches and stores flush to the table. Bosch lists it for the 4000, 4100, 4100XC, and GTS1041A saw models. | Is your exact saw model on Bosch’s compatibility list? This accessory is not a universal retrofit. |

Measure the saw and shop before choosing dimensions
Match the table height
Measure from the actual shop floor to the saw table, accounting for uneven flooring and any leveling feet you plan to use. The Wood Whisperer plan’s 34–36-inch height range relies on feet with 0–2 inches of adjustment; its plan states that saws shorter than 34 inches or taller than 36 inches need changes beyond that range. Treat that as a constraint of this plan, not a standard height for all outfeed tables.
Check the mounting geometry
Decide how the table will attach—or whether it should stand independently—before building its frame. WOOD Magazine says its folding design addresses solid cast-iron, stamped-steel, and shop-built wooden tables, though its prototype was built around a Ridgid TS2424 with webbed cast-iron wings. That does not remove the need to verify the attachment details against your own saw.

Map the working clearances
- Confirm that stock can pass smoothly across the transition from saw to table.
- Check that the blade guard or splitter can move as required, including for angled cuts. A Woodsmith search excerpt describes a notch for guard or splitter movement; verify the detail in the original plan and your saw manual before copying it.
- Check fence travel, saw adjustments, dust-collection connections, and access to controls.
- Keep the table and its supports clear of the blade path.
- Measure the shop footprint and the space needed to move or store a folding table.
Use the chosen plan’s materials list
Material quantities depend on the design. For example, The Wood Whisperer plan specifies four sheets of 3/4-inch plywood, two sheets of 1/2-inch plywood, one sheet of 3/4-inch melamine, and 15 board feet of 4/4 hardwood, with 20% added to the hardwood estimate. Kreg’s indexed cabinet-plan description lists 3/4-inch plywood, 2×4 lumber, melamine, drawer slides, hinges, and handles. These are plan-specific lists, not a shared bill of materials.
Use the cut list for the plan you have selected when buying 3/4-inch plywood sheets or other materials. Check sheet dimensions, grade, quantity, and local availability before ordering. Depending on the design, other materials may include framing lumber, screws, glue, hinges, drawer slides, T-track, or leveling feet. A pocket-hole jig is relevant only when the plan uses pocket-hole joinery; don’t assume hardware or a cut list transfers cleanly between different designs.

- Tabletop Thickness: 3/4'' to 1-1/2'', depending on saw - Tabletop Width: 30'' to 36'' - Tabletop Length: 40'' to 52'' - Leg Length Range: 22-5/8'' to 37-5/8'' in 1'' increments
- Hinged steel framework folds down behind saw for compact storage. Framework supports loads up to 150 lbs., including table. Robust hinge brackets are designed for a lifetime of use
- Slotted mounting bracket with interchangeable bushings accommodate the bolt sizes and spacing of most cabinet saw models
- Telescoping leg assemblies provide 15'' of extension range and adjust up or down in 1'' increments
- Legs lock solidly in both open and closed positions
Build around stability and safe operation
Choose a stable frame and cross-support suited to the loads the table will encounter. Plan geometry and construction differ, so don’t transplant one design’s cut list or attachment details into another without checking the dimensions and structure. Before finalizing the build, confirm that the top supports stock without interfering with the saw’s normal operation, and follow the selected plan’s attachment instructions and the saw manufacturer’s manual.
