There is no universal best washing machine lint trap: washers use different systems, and “lint trap” can refer to a built-in lint filter, a pump or button trap for small objects, or an external drain filter for fibers. Check your washer’s model number and manual first, then choose a filter for the material and location you want to address. For front-load washers, Samsung’s Less Microfiber Filter FT-MF/EU is one external drain-connected option, but its fit and installation conditions must be verified for your machine.
What kind of washer filter do you need?
Start by identifying where the material is collecting. Lint caught inside the washer, coins or buttons that could reach the pump, and fibers leaving with drain water are different problems—and their filters are not interchangeable.

These distinctions matter. GE provides separate procedures for lint and pump filters, while Haier explains that its washer/dryer combo button trap catches small objects but not lint; lint from drying collects in the condenser area. As Haier puts it, “The button trap does not catch lint.” Haier’s button trap and lint filter guidance describes that combo design.
Check your washer before cleaning or buying
- Find the model number. Use the label on the appliance or the location specified in its manual.
- Open the model’s manual or official support page. Confirm whether the washer has a user-accessible filter and where it is located. LG notes that filter location and instructions vary by model; LG’s front-load washer guidance points owners to the model manual.
- Match the part to the model. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility information before ordering a replacement; a part that looks similar may not fit or function correctly.
- Follow the specified cleaning or replacement instructions. Do not assume every washer has a removable lint trap or shares the same maintenance interval.
Washer designs differ. GE describes top-load machines with no maintenance-accessible filter as well as special or older models with accessible filters. Its monthly cleaning guidance applies to specified newer Spacemaker and Space-Saving models, not to every washer. When an external drain microfiber filter may fit the goal
If your aim is to capture fibers leaving in wastewater, an external drain filter is a different choice from a washer’s built-in lint or pump filter. Samsung’s Less Microfiber Filter FT-MF/EU is designed to connect to the external drain pipe of front-loading washers. Samsung specifies installation above the washer drain and gives drain-pump diameter and adaptor conditions, so verify the current product instructions, physical fit, and warranty terms before purchase.
Samsung reports that the FT-MF/EU captures up to 98% of microfibers. That figure is Samsung’s claim from internal testing that measured microfiber weight in wastewater with and without its filter; it is not an independent comparative result, nor does it establish that laundry will be cleaner or that the washer will use less energy. Replacement filters are model-specific
Do not buy a replacement based on a broad search for “washer lint filter” alone. Manufacturers list parts for particular machines, and some washer designs do not use an optional internal lint filter at all.

What about commercial drain lint collectors?
Commercial laundry equipment includes drain-side lint collectors, such as products described in Electrolux Professional’s catalogue. Those systems are intended for commercial settings and may differ in capacity, dimensions, and installation requirements. A commercial catalogue listing is not enough to establish that a collector is suitable for an ordinary household washer; confirm the use case and installation with the supplier. How to choose
- For a built-in filter that needs service: use the washer manual to identify its location and cleaning method.
- For a replacement insert: match the exact part number to the washer’s model using official compatibility information.
- For small objects that could reach the pump: locate the model’s pump or button trap instructions; do not treat it as a lint filter.
- For fibers in drain water: consider an external filter only after confirming washer type, drain connection, and installation requirements.
