At Obra Blanca 2026, Espacio Común co-founder Paula Villa Pastor will discuss how architects can read a context before intervening, and how local knowledge, collaboration and adaptation shape design decisions. What the “Architecture Shaped by Place” session will cover

The project at the center: Main Floating Stage for Muyunafest 2025
The session takes its point of departure from Espacio Común’s Main Floating Stage for Muyunafest 2025. The event descriptions present the project as a response to fluctuating waters and local construction cultures in the Peruvian Amazon. ArchDaily’s October 6, 2026 announcement identifies it as the first-place 2026 Building of the Year winner; that award framing is ArchDaily’s reporting.
The project gives the session’s themes a concrete focus: a structure designed in relation to changing water conditions and construction knowledge particular to its setting. Who is Paula Villa Pastor?
Obra Blanca describes Villa Pastor as an architect whose experience spans architecture, research, and community and cultural management in underserved neighborhoods. It identifies her as a co-founder of Espacio Común, a Peruvian association co-directed with Daniel Canchán. According to the organizer, the practice develops projects in Lima and Iquitos, combining design, construction, and research with organizations and institutions.
Obra Blanca names Barrios que Cuidan and MuyunaFest among Espacio Común’s projects. It also lists the Ammodo Architecture Award, the ASF Award, and ArchDaily’s Building of the Year Award among the practice’s recognition.
