To replace a Samsung refrigerator’s external water supply line, shut off the household water, disconnect the old tubing, fit compatible replacement tubing and fittings, restore the supply, check for leaks, and flush the dispenser as directed by the refrigerator’s manual. The right connector and steps depend on the model and the existing plumbing. This guide covers the supply line between the household water source and refrigerator—not the internal water filter.
Before you begin
Confirm which part needs replacing
The supply line carries water from the household cold-water source to the refrigerator. It is separate from the removable filter cartridge inside the appliance; changing the filter does not replace a leaking or damaged supply line. Samsung explains the distinction in its water-filter guidance.
Check the model and existing connection
Find the refrigerator’s model number and consult its user manual before disconnecting anything. Samsung notes that setup details vary by model. Also identify the existing tubing material and connector type so the replacement line and fittings match both the refrigerator and household plumbing. Samsung’s US water-line installation guidance describes commonly used quarter-inch copper tubing and compression fittings; its regional installation guidance also describes quarter-inch plastic tubing. These are common configurations, not a guarantee that either will fit every model.
Gather compatible parts and prepare the area
Choose tubing and fittings that match the model manual and the connections already in place. Samsung describes copper tubing used with a compression nut and ferrule, and plastic tubing with a molded end and suitable compression fitting. Check whether a kit includes the required fittings for both ends: Samsung notes that a second compression nut may be needed, while some kits include only one. A tubing cutter is useful only if plastic tubing needs trimming; Samsung advises making a square cut.

Turn off the household water supply before disconnecting the line. Place towels and a bowl behind the refrigerator to catch water remaining in the tubing. If the shutoff valve or household-side connection is difficult to reach, or you are unsure how to isolate the water safely, use a plumber or appliance installer rather than forcing a connection.
Replace the supply line
- Shut off the water. Close the household supply valve feeding the refrigerator. Samsung’s connection instructions recommend preparing towels and a bowl at the back of the refrigerator because water can drain from the line.
- Disconnect the old tubing carefully. The connector design varies. Samsung’s general instructions describe releasing some plastic connectors by pushing the ends together, and unscrewing copper tubing from its compression fitting. Use the model manual to confirm the release method for your connection; do not pull or twist a fitting that is meant to release another way. Drain the remaining water into the bowl.
- Fit the replacement tubing and fittings. Connect the new line using the compatible fittings specified for the refrigerator and household connection. For compression connections, seat the tubing correctly and tighten the nut without overtightening it; Samsung Gulf’s installation guidance specifically cautions against overtightening. Do not assume that the old fittings can be reused or that a replacement kit contains every fitting required.
- Restore water and inspect for leaks. Open the shutoff valve slowly and check each connection while the line is pressurized. If you see a leak, shut the water off again and correct the connection before moving the refrigerator into place. Persistent leakage warrants professional help.
- Position the refrigerator without kinking the line. If you trimmed plastic tubing, confirm the end is cut squarely. As the refrigerator is moved back, keep the connected section straight and avoid pinching or sharply bending it. The Samsung/Dacor installation manual emphasizes keeping the joined line straight when repositioning the appliance.
- Flush and check water flow. Dispense water according to the quantity and procedure in the refrigerator’s manual, and continue as directed until the flow is steady. Samsung’s instructions give different quantities in different contexts: its US setup guidance says to dispense one gallon, while Samsung Gulf’s general installation page says at least 2–3 gallons (7–11 liters) after installation to remove air and impurities. Neither figure should be treated as a universal amount for every model.
Choose tubing that matches the connection

Samsung documents both configurations but does not identify one as best for every installation. Compatibility with the refrigerator connector, the household-side connection, the included fittings, and a route that avoids bends matter more than choosing a material in the abstract.

When water flow remains weak
Check that the household valve is fully open, the tubing is not pinched, and the connections are secure. Samsung Gulf’s general installation guidance specifies at least 20 psi and describes a pressure check in which less than 5.75 ounces (163 grams) dispensed in 10 seconds indicates pressure below 20 psi. These figures are guidance from that regional Samsung page, not a universal specification for every refrigerator; consult the exact model manual before using them to diagnose your appliance. If flow remains weak or a connection continues to leak, stop and have the household supply or installation checked by a qualified professional.
