If your Samsung washer door is stuck, do not pull or pry it open. First check whether the cycle has ended, whether water or heat is keeping the lock engaged, and whether Child Lock is on. If a front-load model has an emergency drain hose, you may be able to drain it safely using the model-specific procedure. If the door remains locked after these checks, contact Samsung Support or request service.
Why a Samsung washer door may stay locked
A locked door is often a safety response, not a sign that the door needs to be forced. Samsung U.S. explains: “Your washer door locks to prevent water from coming out (especially for front load models).” Active operation, water remaining in the drum, high temperature, or Child Lock can prevent opening. After a cycle ends or water drains, the lock indicator may also take a short time to switch off. Samsung U.S. Support and Samsung Mexico Support describe these conditions.
Check the washer before trying to open it
- Check whether it is still running or paused. If a cycle is active, let it finish. If the washer is paused while filling, Samsung U.S. advises waiting one minute before trying again. Do not open the door while the machine is operating.
- Look for water and heat. If water remains in the drum or the washer is hot, the safety lock may remain engaged. Allow the washer to cool and drain; do not try to defeat the lock.
- Allow a brief unlocking delay. Once the cycle is complete and the washer has drained, wait for the lock indicator to go out before testing the handle.
- Check Child Lock and the display. Child Lock can prevent the door from opening on some models. Button combinations and display symbols vary, so use the manual for your exact model rather than trying a universal button sequence. Samsung’s door-lock guidance and Mexico support guidance explain that controls and steps can depend on the model.
Drain water using the model’s procedure
If water is keeping the door locked, consult your washer’s manual for the correct drain option. Samsung Mexico describes using a spin-only option on applicable models, but controls differ. Only use that option if your model supports it and it is safe to do so; never open the door while water or high temperature keeps it locked.
Emergency drain hose on some front-load models
Some front-load Samsung washers have an emergency drain hose near the pump filter. Samsung U.S. notes that some older models do not have a pump filter or emergency hose, and layouts vary, so verify your model’s manual before opening an access panel or looking for the hose. Samsung U.S. Support

If the cycle has ended, the washer is drained and cool, Child Lock is off, and the door still will not unlock, contact Samsung Support or request service. A damaged handle or suspected lock fault calls for service, not extra force.
