If a Christmas inflatable will not inflate, first check its power and connections, clear the fan intake, and close the zippers or vents specified in its manual. If the fan runs but the decoration stays limp, check its closures, fan collar, airflow path, and fabric for damage. A continuous-air inflatable will naturally deflate when unplugged; it must have its fan running to stay inflated.
Start with the power, intake, and closures
Unplug the decoration before inspecting or clearing the fan. Check that the outlet works, the power source is switched on, and the cord and power supply are connected securely. Look for debris blocking the fan intake or vent, then close any zippers or vents the product’s instructions say should be shut during operation. If the design has a fabric collar attaching the decoration to the fan outlet, make sure it is secured.
These are documented basic checks for Gemmy Airblown products, not a universal setup specification. Consult the manual for your exact model for outlet requirements, closures, operating temperatures, and replacement parts. If the fan runs but the inflatable stays limp
A running fan does not prove the fabric has a leak. Check the fan collar and required closures first, then make sure the intake and vent are unobstructed. Inspect the fabric for visible holes or tears. Also consider whether rain or snow has left the unit frozen: Home Depot advises letting a winter-weather-exposed inflatable thaw completely before trying it again. The possible causes and instructions vary by product; the Home Depot care guide and your product manual can help narrow down the issue.

If it deflates after you unplug it
That is expected for a continuous-air inflatable. The Gemmy Airblown manual says the decoration “will not stay inflated unless it is plugged in and the fan is blowing air.” In other words, it is not designed to hold air after power is disconnected. This guidance applies to the Airblown products covered by that manual; check your own product’s instructions if its design differs. Read the Gemmy manual (©2015).
If the fan will not start or has stopped
After checking the power and clearing accessible debris with the unit unplugged, consult the exact model’s manual for next steps. Product-specific guidance differs: a Gemmy manual lists temperatures below 14°F (-10°C) as one possible reason an Airblown may not inflate, while a separate ACTION-hosted manual says an overheated fan may need to cool completely before restarting. Neither is a universal rule for all inflatables. Do not operate a damaged fan or bypass a fuse or other electrical protection. If the fan still will not run, stop troubleshooting and follow the manufacturer’s repair or replacement instructions.

Repairing a small fabric rip
For an Airblown fabric rip, Gemmy’s manual says it can be hand-sewn without special thread or taped with clear packing tape. Keep that advice to fabric damage: tape does not repair a fan, cord, power supply, or electrical fault. For other brands or larger damage, follow the product maker’s repair guidance rather than assuming the same method is suitable.

Keep air moving freely around the fan and check it for debris if the fan stops. Follow the manual’s instructions for closing zippers or vents before storage, and let a rain- or snow-exposed unit thaw completely before retrying it. For Gemmy Airblown products, the manufacturer also says to stake the base, attach tethers to the side loops, drive stakes at a 45-degree angle, check the inflatable daily, and avoid unusually strong winds. These are Gemmy-specific directions, not a universal wind threshold or setup rule.
