Its clear glass lets you watch crust color, but the dish is shallow and may not suit double-crust or especially deep pies. The available 2026 guide names five picks, not seven; the two additional dishes below are candidates discussed by other publications, not extra winners from that guide.
How these seven pie pans were selected
Food Network’s September 2026 guide is the only source here that establishes a current set of category winners: it assessed dimensions, side height, grip, weight, materials, warranties and brand claims, then blind-baked crusts, baked pumpkin pies, tested cutting and slice removal, and evaluated hand and dishwasher cleaning. Its five picks appear first below. Reviewed and Epicurious cover two further candidates, but their articles do not establish them as part of Food Network’s 2026 lineup. These are publications’ findings, not independent tests conducted for this article.
The seven pie pans
1. Pyrex 9-inch Glass Pie Plate — best all-purpose starting point
Food Network chose this clear glass dish as Best Overall and reported good browning in its tests. Its transparency is useful when you want to check whether the bottom and sides of a crust are browning. The tradeoff is a shallow profile: Food Network says it is not ideal for double-crust pies. Choose it for standard, single-crust pies when visibility matters more than extra depth. Food Network’s review describes the testing and its category picks.
2. Emile Henry 9-inch Modern Classics Pie Dish — best deep-dish choice
Food Network names this its Best Deep Dish and lists a depth of 2.6 inches. Reviewed describes a 9-by-2-inch ceramic dish with substantial filling capacity and notes that ceramic is heavy. Those sources report different depth measurements, so verify the dimensions of the exact model you are considering rather than assuming every listing or version matches. Its depth makes it the clearest fit among these picks for pies that need more room, though a deeper dish is not automatically best for every recipe.

3. OXO Good Grips Pie Plate with Lid — best for carrying a pie
Food Network describes this as a borosilicate-glass plate with a lid and reports even browning in its two tests. The lid addresses a practical problem: transporting a baked pie. However, Epicurious found that the plate’s 2-inch depth contributed to fruit-pie crust shrinkage in its own test. Consider both the lid and the way your recipe’s crust is meant to sit in the dish before choosing it. Epicurious’s pie-pan review explains that finding.
4. Williams Sonoma Goldtouch Pro Nonstick Pie Dish — best metal pick in Food Network’s guide
Food Network describes this pan as ceramic-reinforced nonstick aluminized steel and reports even browning in blind-baked crust and pumpkin-pie tests. Its measured interior diameter was 8.75 inches, a useful reminder that a pan sold as 9-inch may not have a 9-inch interior. Food Network also warns against cutting directly in the pan. The coated metal construction is a reasonable option if browning and release are priorities, provided you use care that does not damage the surface.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Compact and Lightweight: Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces. The 1/4" impact driver has a length of 5.55 in. and weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the 1/2" drill/driver measures only 7.5 in. and weighs 3.6 lbs

5. Le Creuset Heritage Stoneware Pie Dish — for uses beyond pie
Food Network recommends this heavy stoneware dish for more than pie and reports heat tolerance up to 500°F; Reviewed also notes its ceramic construction and high-temperature use. Check the instructions for the exact model before relying on an oven-temperature limit or using it for a particular purpose. Its appeal is versatility, not light weight.
6. USA Pan 9-inch Pie Pan — a coated-metal alternative
Reviewed describes the USA Pan as aluminized steel with a corrugated base and silicone nonstick finish, and advises hand-washing. Epicurious reports good browning and easy release in its testing, but also says the coating scratched with metal utensils. That makes utensil choice and care part of the decision: avoid metal tools on the surface and follow the care instructions for the exact pan. The publications discuss this model, but it is not one of Food Network’s five 2026 category picks.

7. Made In Pie Dish — a porcelain option to investigate
Epicurious describes this 2-inch-deep porcelain dish as accommodating larger pies and a smaller press-in crust at the base. That makes it a possible option for bakers whose crust method and recipe suit its shape. The cited 2022 review does not establish it as a pick in Food Network’s 2026 guide, and the available findings do not provide a direct comparison with the other six dishes.
Which material is best for a pie pan?
No single material is best for every pie. Reviewed explains that metal conducts heat strongly and heats and cools more quickly, while clear glass lets radiant energy pass and makes crust color visible. Epicurious’s earlier tests favored coated metal for release while reporting that its glass pans also performed well. Food Network’s 2026 picks span glass, ceramic and metal, supporting a tradeoff-based choice rather than a universal material winner.

- Choose glass if seeing the crust as it bakes is important. Its depth and the recipe still matter; a clear dish does not guarantee that every crust will fit or bake as intended.
- Choose ceramic or stoneware when the dish’s depth, capacity or use beyond pie suits your needs. Expect heavier cookware, and check the exact model’s instructions.
- Choose coated metal if you value browning and release, and are prepared to avoid damaging utensils or care practices. The results cited here apply to specific pans, not every metal dish.
Match depth and dimensions to the recipe
Pan diameter alone is not enough to predict how a pie will fit. A shallow plate may work well for a single-crust pie but leave too little room for a double crust or generous filling. A deeper dish offers more capacity, yet Epicurious’s OXO test shows that depth can also affect how a fruit-pie crust sits and behaves. Check the recipe’s intended pan size and profile against the exact dish’s interior diameter and depth; the Williams Sonoma pan’s 8.75-inch measured interior is one example of why the outside or advertised diameter can be misleading.
Care and handling depend on the exact model
Food Network says glass and most commercial ceramic dishes are generally dishwasher-safe, while aluminum or nonstick metal pans should be hand-washed. That is general guidance, not a guarantee for every product or version. Follow the maker’s instructions for the specific dish. For coated pans, avoid utensils and cleaning practices that could scratch or damage the finish; Epicurious specifically reports scratching on the USA Pan coating with metal utensils.
