William “Bill” McDermott bought a Laguna Beach mansion for a reported $43 million in December 2021, according to a 2022 report by The Real Deal Los Angeles. The report identifies the buyer as Bill; it does not say his wife, Julie McDermott, was a co-buyer.

Who bought the Laguna Beach mansion, and when?

The buyer was William “Bill” McDermott, whom the November 29, 2022 report described as ServiceNow’s CEO. The reported transaction took place in December 2021, not in 2022 or 2026. The Real Deal story, republished by GPAM, reported the sale at $43 million. Read the report at GPAM.

The headline’s reference to Bill and Julie does not establish joint ownership: the report names Bill as the buyer and identifies Julie as his wife, but does not name her as a purchaser. The report also says the couple lived in Atherton.

Where is the property?

The address given in the report is 2431 Riviera Drive, in the Irvine Cove community of Laguna Beach, California. It describes the residence as a beachside estate on about half an acre, with approximately 10,000 square feet of interior space. The report cites a listing for the property’s 180 feet of beach frontage.

What does the report say about the house?

The Real Deal described the home as a Mediterranean Revival-style residence built in 1996. Its account lists six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, as well as imported limestone floors, artisanal bronze details, crafted millwork, fireplaces, dining patios, and a wood-paneled library. It also describes an open kitchen with a granite-topped island and six bedroom suites. These are features reported in 2022, not an independently verified current property inventory.

How did the reported price compare with its listing history?

The report says retired subprime mortgage executive Bob Cole sold the house to McDermott and had bought it in 2005 for $29 million. It also describes the property as having been on and off the market, with asking prices ranging from $41 million to $55 million at various points. The story says it was listed for $45 million the day after McDermott’s purchase.

$29 million Reported price paid by previous owner Bob Cole in 2005

These amounts describe different dates and, in the listing figures, asking prices rather than completed sales. They are historical figures reported in 2022, not a current valuation. The underlying deed and present ownership were not verified in the cited account.
