For most Samsung systems, the dependable order is: connect the bar through HDMI ARC/eARC, select it as the TV’s sound output, begin in Standard mode, then adjust center/dialogue, bass, woofer and surround levels one change at a time. Controls and menu names vary by model, TV year, firmware and included speakers, so use your exact model manual when a control described here is missing.
Before adjusting your Samsung soundbar
- Find the exact model number on the bar, box, SmartThings device page or Samsung Support.
- Photograph or write down the current settings so you can undo changes.
- Confirm that the subwoofer and rear speakers have power and show a wireless link, if included.
- Choose one familiar dialogue scene and one music track for consistent testing.
Samsung confirms that available menus differ by soundbar model and TV year. See its soundbar troubleshooting guidance before applying a model-specific reset or button combination.
Connect the soundbar correctly
HDMI ARC/eARC (the preferred TV connection)
Connect the television’s HDMI port labelled ARC or eARC to the soundbar port labelled HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC).
Samsung TV HDMI ARC/eARC → Soundbar HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC)
- On the TV, open Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output and choose the soundbar rather than TV Speaker.
- In the TV’s sound settings, set HDMI-eARC Mode to Auto where that option exists.
- Enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) if required for volume control and automatic source switching.
- Select the soundbar input shown as D.IN, TV ARC or TV eARC. Samsung notes that D.IN can change to TV ARC/eARC after a short delay.
- Test a built-in TV app and another source such as a set-top box or game console.

Other connection choices

Do not assume Dolby Atmos or any other surround format will pass through every input; the TV, source, cable, output setting and soundbar must all support it.
Set a neutral baseline
Before judging a change, select Standard mode and return the main controls to neutral where your model allows:
- Bass: 0
- Treble: 0
- Woofer/subwoofer: 0
- Center and rear channels: 0
- Audio Sync: 0 or the default
- Extra enhancement features: off initially, unless you are specifically testing them
These are starting points, not universal calibration results. Change one control at a time and wait briefly before deciding whether it helped.
Adjust the soundbar with its remote
- Turn on the bar and select the input you are using.
- Press the remote button labelled Sound Control, Settings, CH LEVEL, TONE CONTROL, Woofer, Bass, Treble or Audio Sync, depending on the model.
- Cycle to the parameter you want.
- Use Up/Down or Left/Right to change its value.
- Stop pressing buttons and allow the bar to save the setting, if applicable.
- Replay the same scene or song at the same volume.
Older HW-series remotes may expose controls directly; newer Q-, S- and B-series models can place additional options in SmartThings. Some Samsung service documentation shows a channel range of approximately −6 to +6, but that range is model-specific, not universal (Samsung service guidance).

- Install or open the SmartThings app and sign in if requested.
- Choose the device-add flow and add the soundbar.
- Open the soundbar from the Devices list.
- Open its controls or settings panel.
- Adjust the options your model provides, such as sound mode, woofer, bass, treble, channel levels, Voice Enhance, Night Mode or SpaceFit.
- Check the device settings for firmware updates.
SmartThings support is not universal. Samsung’s setup documentation and support instructions describe model-dependent app controls and Wi-Fi reconnection.
Practical starting settings by goal
Movies and TV
- Start in Standard mode; compare Adaptive or Surround afterward.
- Keep Bass, Treble, Woofer, Center and Rear at 0 initially.
- Raise Center one step at a time if dialogue is recessed.
- Use Voice Enhance when available.
- Enable Night Mode when effects disturb other people.
- Try SpaceFit with and without it rather than assuming calibration is always better.
Clearer dialogue
- Confirm the source is using an appropriate audio format and test another program.
- Use Standard mode.
- Increase Center Level modestly.
- Enable Voice Enhance if provided.
- Reduce Bass or Woofer slightly if low frequencies mask speech.
- Move furniture so the center speaker is not blocked or enclosed.
Excessive center gain can make voices thin or detached. If only one app or program sounds wrong, the source may be responsible.
Music
- Start with Standard, or Music mode if your model offers it.
- Compare Adaptive and Surround only if you prefer their processing.
- Use small bass changes; too much low end can obscure vocals and instruments.
- Increase Treble cautiously and reduce it if cymbals or speech become harsh.
Gaming
Use Game mode when available, then compare it with Standard. Game processing can improve positional effects but may change music and cinematic balance.
Fix weak or boomy bass
Separate Woofer from Bass
Raise Woofer when the separate subwoofer is too quiet. Adjust Bass when the overall low-frequency tone is wrong. They are different controls on many models.
- Confirm the subwoofer is powered and its link indicator shows a connection.
- Lower Woofer if bass rattles or overwhelms voices.
- Move the subwoofer away from a corner if the room makes bass boomy; try another position.
- Check for a Moderate Bass or similar feature. Some Samsung guides indicate that such a mode can mute the subwoofer and route bass through the bar (example guide).
Fix surround and rear speakers
- Confirm every rear speaker is powered and wirelessly paired.
- Place them behind or beside the seating area where possible, without obstruction.
- Test a source that actually contains surround information.
- Only then adjust Rear, Side or Top levels.
Increasing a channel cannot repair a pairing failure or a stereo source. Excessive rear levels can make the system sound disconnected.

Correct audio delay and lip-sync
- Test a TV internal app, another app and an external source.
- Check whether Bluetooth is being used; prefer HDMI ARC/eARC for TV viewing.
- Adjust the soundbar’s Sync or Audio Sync in small increments.
- Restart the source device, TV and soundbar.
- Install available TV and soundbar firmware updates.
If delay appears only with one source, its app, set-top box or console is a stronger suspect than the soundbar.
When adjustments appear to do nothing
- Confirm the selected input and check that the TV is not still set to TV Speaker.
- Test Bluetooth or another source to determine whether the issue is input-specific.
- Power-cycle the TV and soundbar.
- Update firmware.
- Remove and re-add the soundbar in SmartThings if it is an app-controlled model.
- Check the exact model manual before resetting.

SmartThings will not connect
- Confirm that the soundbar supports SmartThings.
- Put it into the model’s required network or pairing state.
- In SmartThings, choose Devices → Add device and follow the prompts.
- Confirm the phone and soundbar use a compatible network.
- Reset network settings only when necessary.
Factory reset
Reset combinations differ materially by model. Search Samsung Support by the exact model number rather than using a universal button sequence. A reset erases custom settings and may require re-pairing the subwoofer, rear speakers, TV and SmartThings.

Model-specific documentation is essential for missing controls, reset instructions, wireless-speaker pairing and firmware procedures. Samsung’s TV sound settings page explains that current interfaces commonly place Sound Output, Sound Mode, Expert Settings, Digital Output Audio Format, HDMI-eARC Mode and Reset Sound under Settings → All Settings → Sound, but the wording depends on TV model and software.
For compatible Samsung TV and soundbar combinations, Q-Symphony can combine their speakers; compatibility is generation-dependent (Samsung buying guide). Do not treat it, Dolby Atmos, SmartThings or any channel option as universal across the HW, Q, S and B ranges.
