If your Samsung washing machine is not filling, start with the external water supply—not an internal part. Confirm the taps are open, inspect both hoses, clean the inlet mesh filter, and check the code shown on the display. Samsung washer models and regional plumbing instructions differ, so use the manual for your exact model before changing hose connections or ordering parts.
First, identify what “not filling” means
Watch one cycle closely and note the exact symptom:
- A short delay before water enters: some Samsung washers sense the load first. Samsung says this sensing period can take about 2–5 minutes; a delay alone does not prove a fault.
- Slow or intermittent filling: restricted flow, a partially closed valve, a kinked hose, or a blocked mesh filter are possible external causes.
- No water at all with a code or flashing lights: record the code and follow the instructions for your model.
- Water keeps entering continuously: turn off both supply valves and arrange service. Continuous filling is different from a washer that fails to admit water.
What Samsung water-supply codes mean
Samsung support identifies 4C, 1 4C, nF and 4E as no-fill or water-supply codes in various US guides. Samsung UK describes 4C/4E as a water-supply error. The display format and remedy can vary by model and country, so check your owner’s manual rather than treating a code as a universal diagnosis.

Step-by-step checks you can safely perform
1. Confirm the household water supply
- Pause or switch off the washer.
- Make sure every supply tap or valve feeding the machine is fully open. If the washer has separate hot and cold connections, check both.
- Test another nearby faucet if you suspect a household supply interruption.
Samsung UK lists a pressure range of 0.5–8 bar in its 2026 4C/4E guidance. That range is specific to that regional guidance and should not be assumed for every Samsung model or market.

2. Inspect the hoses behind the washer
- Look for a hose that is kinked, crushed, twisted, stretched tightly or visibly damaged.

- Do not assume every Samsung washer uses the same arrangement. Samsung UK says most of its models use only a cold-water connection, while Samsung US installation guidance covers hot and cold connections on applicable models and warns that crossed lines can trigger a water-supply error.
- Use the model manual to confirm the connection layout, hose routing and any temperature requirements.
If a hose is split, bulging or damaged, replace it with a hose whose length, connection type and gasket arrangement match the washer and plumbing. A generic hose is not automatically compatible with every model.
3. Clean the inlet mesh filter
A small mesh screen where the supply hose meets the washer can collect grit and restrict flow.

- Turn off the water supply valves.
- Disconnect the hose carefully, keeping a towel or shallow container ready for trapped water.
- Remove the mesh filter gently; avoid deforming or tearing it.
- Rinse the screen under running water and clear visible debris without damaging the mesh.
- Reinstall the filter and reconnect the hose firmly, with the correct gasket in place.
- Open the valve slowly and inspect every connection for leaks.
Samsung UK recommends cleaning inlet mesh filters at least twice a year. Shut off the supply before any hose disconnection, and take extra care if your installation includes a hot-water connection.
4. Check drain-hose installation
Samsung US includes drain-hose installation in its fill troubleshooting. A kinked drain hose or an airtight standpipe connection can interfere with proper operation. Compare the hose insertion depth, standpipe arrangement and height with the instructions for your exact model; US measurements may not apply to a washer sold in another region.

5. Retry after the documented reset
After correcting a hose or connection, Samsung US advises disconnecting power for one minute, then reconnecting and trying a cycle again. Use the washer’s normal controls and remain nearby during the first refill so you can stop the cycle if a leak appears.
When the basic checks do not solve the problem
If the valves are open, the hoses are correctly routed and undamaged, the mesh filter is clean, and the washer still will not fill, contact Samsung support or a qualified appliance technician. The symptom alone does not establish that the inlet valve, control board, pressure sensor or another internal component has failed. Model-specific testing is needed before replacing an internal part.

Choosing a replacement supply hose
Replace a hose only when inspection shows damage, deterioration or an unsuitable installation. Before buying, compare:
- Compatibility with your Samsung model and the plumbing layout
- Number and type of connections, including whether hot and cold lines are required
- Length that reaches without tension, sharp bends or contact with the cabinet
- Included gaskets and the manufacturer’s leak-resistant construction
